This is based on what I come across on a dating site where you can make quizzes for the other gender to fill out.

Quite a lot of men ask about what you -the woman- like to drink. If you don't choose the alcoholic option you're out.
Meaning men want you to drink alcohol.

I noticed with my last partner alcohol drinking was important to him -special beers- and he was taken aback to learn I didn't drink beer nor liked alcohol much.
He was disappointed although he tried to hide it from me.
With his previous partner he went to a pub's outdoor patio to try different special beers together. He liked doing that. With me he couldn't as I don't like beers.
I just don't like drinking alcohol.

As it is, me single, I have no alcohol in tha house, no porn either. Two things that will automatically enter my life when I find a man again. Two things I can do without.
Again the awkward moments because I don't want to drink alcohol.

QUESTION:
why is it so important to men that the woman drinks?

Would it be so important to you that it'd be a deal-breaker if she doesn't drink (much)? According to the quizzes it is...

Could you be okay in relationship with a woman who doesn't drink or not often?

I don't drink anymore or any less ... a social drinker , that's me !
The women I have dated .... well , there has been a variety.... drinkers , non-drinkers , abstainers and just plain lushes .
its not a dealbreaker when it comes to alcohol intake , especially when on a date ... kinda suits me if she refuses to indulge huh !!!

I never drink, and would always prefer a woman who didn't drink, or only drank occasionally. I don't go to pubs or clubs, so it's not a deal breaker if a woman doesn't drink...totally the opposite, in effect.

Great to hear, Dave!
Maybe I live in the wrong country when it comes to this, haha.

I do like to occasionally go to a pub, preferably if there's live music.
But I don't like alcohol. I then might have a 2% Radler, and after that 0% only. Partly cos I still have to drive home, but also because I don't like alcohol that much. I'm a light-weight. If I drink 1/3 of a regular beer I already feel it affecting me.

And with a BBQ I can appreciate a light wine, the cheap supermarket version of white wine, or a rosΓ©. as long as it's sweet, haha. And not too strong.
The occasional Irish coffee is nice, but then I want only half the normal dose of whiskey, preferable less.
But in general it's just not for me.

Personally speaking, drinking alcohol is not important at all. People can also meet for a nice cup of coffee.

But unfortunately, in many countries, Ireland seems a good example, socializing equals drinking alcohol. People meet "for a pint", which means being in the pub or nightclub all night, and waking up with a massive hangover

I am a real teetotaler ;-)

I tried a drink when I turned 21 for the first time
but found it nasty tasting and my clothes fell off.

And I got really stupid.

So there really is no power on earth that can make
me imbibe nor have I in the last 50 years.

Now, my mate would gladly exchange water for alcohol, any time any place. This causes no conflict
and makes me a cheap date.

I will guess Crystal, he could go either way
with no impact ;-) ;-)

Not my thing either. I wouldn't want a partner who regularly did/needed to have to.

Lucky you!
I drink water myself in the evenings as well. I stopped drinking soft drinks over 10 yrs ago. The only reason being that I drank so much of that, as the sugar in it is so addictive and makes you keep drinking.
Light soft drinks is not for me, I don't want that toxic crap in my body. I don't consume any light product (diet over there).
So I just gave up on soft drinks and began to drink water after my coffee instead.

I did have one bottle of Desperado's Virgin the other day. When it was warm I suddenly felt like it and drank that. Yummie! But Virgin --> 0% alcohol.

Oh well, glad to hear here that there's people for whom no/not much alcohol isn't a problem :)

Thanks Soufie! flowerforyou

I don’t drink and would much prefer to date a guy who doesn’t drink but that’s not a deal breaker. As long as he didn’t drink to excess.

If she doesn't drink, she doesn't drink. Fine, that just means more for me. And she can drive.

Nobody forces someone to drink. You don't have to drink alcohol to go to a pub. You can order a soft drink or fruit juice. I've done it many times. No one is going to look at you funny or order you out of the bar. And if they do, F-em.

I am not a drinker except for maybe a glass of wine at special occasions. I would prefer the lady I date is not a drinker or at the very least a very once in a while type of drinker and even then not to extremes.

Yes, but it's not so much about in a pub. It's just at home or going on a date etc. What a man seems to expect/want from a woman.
But as you say so eloquently, F-em, I'm going to use it as a sifting tool. If they want & need me to drink they're not for me :)

Now that's what I am hoping to find in a man as well :)
Which to me means, not the daily beer (or two) when home from work either.

My partner f do yes drink but not all the time , he might sometimes have a can of cider .

I do go the pub , and sometimes on my own. And I always have a pint of coke .

Hi Crystal

QUESTION:
why is it so important to men that the woman drinks?

Would it be so important to you that it'd be a deal-breaker if she doesn't drink (much)? According to the quizzes it is...

Could you be okay in relationship with a woman who doesn't drink or not often?

my response to your first question is - you can say you know at least one man (me) to whom it isn't important....

Therefore, it isn't a deal breaker

Sure, My relationships have included those who loved wine festivals and an occasional pub crawl, and those who never touched the stuff; and I shared meaningful bonds with each...

hahaha...those quizzes remind of the battery of pysch questions that many sites require to "match" you with someone compatible - and the divorce rate is still 50% or higher in many places...

Thank you, good to know :) Another one to whom it isn't all that important if at all :)

The quizzes are quite a good tool to get insight etc. but then you do have to ask good questions. Like if you'd go speed dating. In the short time you can get a lot out of it, provided you got the right questions that also deliver the insights and not meaningless blabla.

It's quite hard to make a good quiz, hihi. I got about 4 or 5 myself and sometimes men compliment me as they found the quiz really good and fun to fill out.
Occasionally I make new ones, but as I said... it's quite difficult cos it has to give insight, still be fun for a guy to fill out, and you don't want to come across as too harsh/serious/etc/etc

I'm generally nervous and uncomfortable around new people, so for me, a drink or two is pretty much a requirement in order to relax enough to have a good first date. I've had dates where I didn't drink, and they were always a disaster for me. I'm not an alcoholic, I just have a lot of anxiety.

I only drink maybe once a year if that. I know this question is for the guys, but I don't care if the guy drinks occasionally, but I don't want a sloppy drunk.

Last time I drank was February 2020... Before that 2-3 years. My husband didn't drink at all.
