Different strokes for different folks. I've done all types of camping such as tents, camper shell, pop up camper on pickup, hard side camper on pickup, travel trailer, etc.

For me, the comforts of a 4x4 pickup with overhead camper is the best all around. SHOWER! hot water, toilet, running water, beds, dinette to sit at, heater, windows, lock on door, refrigerator, you name it easily win the day.

Like my showers to stay clean but I camp pretty minimal. I like a base camp which just costs of my pickup, no camper, just sleep in truck. Rig me a way to shower at base, then backpack out from there for one or two nights. And when I do that I don't use a tent, just a cheap tarp that can be rigged up tent like but usually just put part of it below my sleeping bag and part on top. Keeps dew off me. Wake up, make coffee and breakfast. Roll up and back on trail. I like a true back country trip or nothing at all so it's not about comfort. I'm on a ranch so my day to day is probably like camping to some.

You can purchase portable showers. Some are even solar heated. Then there is always a lake or stream

I have watched way too many Bears Eating People
videos now.

A nice campsite would be a blanket pulled over
a chair in my bedroom.

Hi,

I love camping, using a black shower bag hung in a tree. I did it in many places and my favorite place to do it is on the island of Mahรฉ, because the weather is always warm.

Love, Cornรฉlie.

I've done the tent thing which I felt was great.

Rent-a-tent in France when we had kids --> beds off of the ground with mattresses, cooking equipment off the ground, crockery & cutlery provided for etc.
Also great, you just arrive, get your bags with clothes, done.

Travelled through part of Australia in a camper, also great.

Never done the caravan thing, the type you tow behind your car to a camping.

I do feel all are camping. Camping is away from home, sleeping & cooking etc. in the outdoors. Simply put a more primitive version of normal life at home.

What I always loved about it... it's so much more social! No hanging in front of the tv -and nowadays PC as well. Doing things together and often with other people on the campsite too.

These days I'd rather skip the tent thing. I prefer my comfort, and so does my back!
Unless it's a rent-a-tent.

But I'm a fan of a great B&B. Certainly in the UK!!

That would concern me too in countries with bears like the US or Canada.
And also mountain lions.
But all in all I didn't think people got mauled by bear that often? Generally speaking only predatory bears?
Then again, having it happen to you once is once too many, hihi.
