What age do you think its ok to leave 1 child home alone for an evening?

my mom started leaving me home alone at age 10.

I think that would really depend on the kid(maturity level, propensity to find trouble , etc.), the area in which you live, accessibility to a responsible adult, etc. At least HS age, like 15 or 16, I think. (I was thinking this was for the "night" not evening...oops)

7 I have a seven year old and I would not leave her home alone! Not because I don't trust her but because I would worry to much about her! Seven is still pretty little. I would think between 10-12 depending on maturity level. I was babysitting for people when I was 12 so I would definately think that is old enough.

Depends on the parent and the child. mine is 10 and had worked with him for about a year to get him up to being home alone for an evening....went through what to do if there is a fire, how to call the police, me, grandma, our room mate, never answer the door or even approach it if someone knocks on it, don't answer the phone unless mommy calls, what to get himself to eat if he's hungry and what not...it's takes a lot of work to get them ready and you want to make sure all the bases are covered and test them on what you've taught them too.... I would tell him I was leaving and go outside for a few minutes and then go back and knock on the door to see what he would do....I would call him and see, I have ran through the fire drill with him and made him go it alone a lot to make sure it's habit with him.....as long as they are prepared the will be alright...

Hummm well I'm not into the latch key kid thing never was my kids were not left alone until they were like 15 lmao just me. It does all depend on for how long couple hours maybe 10 and up all depends on the kid and how mature and responsible they are.

i left my son at age 12.... he did fine... but he can't ans the phone (if it wasn't family calling) or the door...

Good answer I agree totally on this one my daughter I started probally at 12 because she was very mature & responsible, she was baby sitting and all that...my 14 yr old son still needs a baby sitter if its gonna be longer then an hour or so...and the 2 boys together alone....forgettttttt it!

Definitely agree with this..7 is just too immature for that responsibility. Especially at night.
