sometimes people stay together while they are raising children and end up splitting after the children have left. I am sorry about your parentsfrown

That is sad. You would figure you want someone for the rest of your life. I know I would be hurt if my parents split. My heart would just drop.

Some think they have missed something and are looking or it, or the grass is greener on the other side, some are going through mid-life crisis, or perhaps they are tired of not being happy and pretending they are. Everyone has different reasons.

You are not a part of that decision and you have no idea what they have been through. Most importantly, the consideration fo breaking up is not your fault.
Respsect your parents and their decision and continue to love the both of them for who they are to you.
They, now, need YOUR support and love.

I know it is difficult, but try not to think that divorce always means failure. If your folks are happier apart, you should be happy for them. I know my kids still seem to agonize over my divorce(s).

The real mystery to me, given the real differences in people, and the amazing differences in the way men and women think, is that some people are able to stay together for so long. I have a theory....many times it is the fear of being alone which keeps them together, sometimes it is co-dependency, sometimes it is because one or the other can't make it on his or her own. Sometimes it is money, or the fear of losing "stuff." Many, many reasons to stay together. Not many legitimate.

Now, there are exceptions. There are people who stay together only because they want to and because they cannot imagine life without the other.

Back to the original thought....if you love both of your parents, love them both and respect the decision and don't take sides and if they expect you to take a side, they are not deserving of your love or respect.

because we live in a society that only profits when we
dispose of what is important. so they can con us into getting
what is supposed to be better. but it isn't better, its
just also disposable. so every little while we can just
get a new one, and be happy with this new shiny thing we have...
until its time to replace that one with an even shinier one.

it's sad, but true...

sometimes, people just don't know what to do after so long, they find that they stayed together FOR the kids, or that they're just not bonding over anything anymore, or they have no idea what they're doing together anymore..

it's not easy to go thru, and sometimes difficult to see their points of view...so good luck

My sister-n-law's parents are in their 70's. Her mom just left her dad after years of unhappiness.

My parents were married in 1949, and have been married ever since. Yet, in today's world, it is acceptable to say "to hell with it"... that is something that has never crossed my parent's mind. They still live in the same house they lived in 2 months after they were married. This is how life USED to be...

Now its a trip down to the courthouse for a quickee divorce, and a quick fix to marital problems...

The dating scene is even worse as an adult... I've yet to meet any woman who could maintain faithful for more than three months.

The world has gone to hell in a hand basket... at least in the US.

I could fully picture myself leaving for a tropical island, such as Guam, where things are much more family oriented. Life in the states is really beginning to become a drag...
