When meeting people from here for dates, what makes you decide to meet them? Do you take a chance and go out with someone who emails you a few times? Do you get to know them better first? What other things do you look for?

If I've emailed a few times, and generally at least one phone call....then always meeting somewhere public but that could only be from a few emails...but i'm sure girls have a lot more safety things to worry about at 6'3 and 235lbs I don't worry that much

After many heartwrenching failures I take my time to learn things first. If there is no patience for that to me it's a warning flag .

I think that there tends to a natural progression even in this artificial setting...

If there is a good flow and conversation via email... then I will usually move onto IM with the person.... if there is still flow and a connection there.... next would be to have a phone conversation (this can often be a determining factor of whether or not meeting in person is a possibility).

I think that I just let things go as they go... I do notice that if there are appears on both parts to be an 'urgency' to meet in person to see if the connection is really there... then I may meet them sooner than later.

I generally go with my gut about the person... if there are red flags or stuff that doesn't sit well... I will purposely take more time to get to know the person before deciding to meet in person.

curiosity for the most part - want to see if it's all it's packaged up to be (conversation and laughs)

There is no standard form of practice, some people I want to meet right away, others I am a bit more leery of and take my time.

After we pass the email part, and the phone conversations are good (and leaving me wanting to know more) then I can't wait to meet someone! flowerforyou

What makes you meet someone quickly, though?

If I feel that there's a connection through writing or on the phone I want to meet them quickly. I once emailed back and forth for 3 months with someone and there was so much rapport between us. When meeting in person it wasn't there and we both ended up disappointed.

Life is short and the sooner I can meet, the better. That way you can find out if they have either friend or mate potential. Less chance of people being hurt or building up expectations if you do it quickly.

Within a week or two. I do talk on the phone first before meeting and then always meet at a public place. I look at it as a possible friendship, and if there seems to be some chemistry, great.

Definitely after emails & chat, possibly phone if all is going well. I need to feel people out as thoroughly as possible first. For me it takes almost all the awkwardness out of the initial meet.

Through email conversations, she has to say one of these two words:

1. Ballsac
or
2. Hyundai

And she has to use them in a sentence that makes no sense, but does make sense to a weirdo like me. She does that, I am entranced.

I've met 9 people from other dating sites, and all of them were absolute nightmares. It hasn't mattered how long I wait to meet them in person, either -- it ranged from a couple of weeks to about a year.

At this point, I think I would want to be very careful and go very slowly before meeting someone from a dating site. Not that there's much chance of the opportunity ever arising!
