we have plenty of clichs that sound dreamy but aren't at all logical

my take on that just 'who I am' and 'be yourself' is similar

people cannot be anyone BUT themselves,, it is either a themselves they strive to maintain or change,

could be a themself that's overemotional or illogical in that moment or on that occasion

but it cant be anyone but them,,,,and who they are choosing at the time to be,,,,

and at all times we can choose 'who we are'

when you get to a certain age you are what you are. you can try to change but you will always retain "you" the only other thing you can do is mask your true self but even then the real you will let slip at some point. its much easier to not give a fudge what people think and be who you are. unless you are truly a devil then then i think there are classes for that. im only joking im sure your lovely just the way you are flowerforyou

Life is a journey.......you are yourself no matter how you project it!

People change and it may be for the better or worse. And you learn and maybe adopt different outlooks, mannerism, learn to talk 'tough', learn to be 'gentle'....we can be anything we want to be.

Today I may be happy:smile: , and so I project a fun and chirpy outlook.
Tomorrow I may be feeling down.....so, I could be moody, snappish, and downright uglydevil . So, when you see me like that....get out of my face! I bite!

Either way, just the 2 faces of me, but still me.

I agree with you in that nobody should try to change to impress anyone else.
being yourself means accepting you for who you are.
striving to change or better yourself is anybody's own personal choice. hopefully for their own personal growth rather than to try to be what someone else demands.
that doesn't change the essence of what someone is.
nor does it make us more or less than others

Me; I do believe in just being myself but that doesn't mean I don't strive to improve myself. The difference with me is that I do things to improve myself for me not to impress someone else. Whether I chose to improve myself or not; it should be entirely my choice and not pressure from another person or partner. I don't like someone telling to me change who I am just to make them happy. I have always stood my ground as to who I am and I have no problem showing any man to the door that won't accept me for who I am. I would rather be single than to live like that.

This is more of what I'm talking about, but obviously some people don't quite get it,if you will always be yourself no matter then why the heck everyone keeping telling people ,oh "don't change who you are, always be yourself",so sounds to me theirs IS a choice there,my main message is,why tell people to be the same if it doesn't help them in anyway, if anything change for better and grow!

I understand, what you saying makes sense, the main reason I posted this topic,is because there's two sides to that statement people always use,so it ain't always good advice, maybe if use in a certain context, but even though it's people's own choice, that's still the advice you're giving them, and obviously we can't change the person who we are,we can change stuff we do,say, act, react,ECT,that's what we mean by changing who we are,and telling ourselves that we can't change,it's kinda negative thinking,( if I'm understanding correctly some posts on here), some of us know the things that we really can't change, and the thing we want too and CAN change,a person may been lying most their whole life, you don't know that, but you'll tell them to "be yourself",tell me how does that help?

I don't think being yourself necessarily means to stay the same. You can be yourself and strive to be better and grow.

I think that goes more with don't pretend to like something you don't like, or to enjoy doing something you don't enjoy just to impress others. That wouldn't be being yourself. That has nothing to do with changing to better yourself.

Some people said in their posts, you can only be yourself, ,people straight out say "don't change"always be yourself",and I'm saying, why not tell them to change for better and grow ECT,so it does have something to do with it!
