My animals all eat before I do.

I want them fat, before I eat THEM.

The dogs I have had have never went without a meal... I have seen times when it was tough but always managed to get dog food..

been there... fed the animals FIRST!

one time, I went with an empty fridge for a WEEK, so's I could buy food for my pets with the pennies I had.. geesh.. today I spend more on them every grocery than I do my OWN food! laugh

they depend on US for sustenance.. like a child.. would YOU take food from your kids mouth to feed yourself first? I WOULDN'T!! when we bring any animal into our lives, we accept the responsibility to be their guardian, caretaker, and in essence, their Parent! we rear them with love and attention, nurture them, and take care of them when they're sick! they are part of the family, and as such, we're responsible for ALL their needs!

today we live in a 'disposable' world, but that shouldn't include our relationships, people OR our loving pets!

just sayin..... smokin

Hmm... well I would just take my last pork chop.. throw it out in to the backyard.. and let milo and the boys fight over it..lol... honestly if I could not afford a pet I would not have a pet...

Exactly my idea, although chit can happen of course, causing you to not be able to take care of them anymore.
If I couldn't take care of my kitty cats no more, I'd make sure they got a home with ppl who could. Even though it would break my heart!

I know my does at times... I also have to agree. I believe if you can't afford a pet then don't get one. Too many times I see where someone has decided the cute cuddly puppy or kitten has grown into something they don't want any longer. So here comes the shelter, Breaks my heart...

I don't have a dog, so I don't have to think about that.
We're not allowed to talk about our cats, so I can just enjoy my meal I guess, lol.
And yes, my cats have been fed as well! The whinging farts keep hassling me if I don't feed them, lol. Kidding, love my furry creatures :) Especially my Bailey, he's adorable! I've really never had a cat before that will lean into me, snuggle up to me, rest his head against my shoulder.
He always jumps on people's lap, except for once, a date. Bailey didn't like him at all. Turned out I didn't either, lol. I think Bailey should get a say in whom I date. If he doesn't approve ... it's just not the right guy!

Been there putting my 2 kids & my 2 big dogs first (70 lbs +).
Vowed.. Never again. My kids are grown & on there own & I downsized to one cat. I now stock up on cheap food for both of us.

If I can't afford something, including pets, I shouldn't have them.
The Lord provides... But let's not be foolish & wait. Stock up instead & do without material things, so no one is hungry.

Pets.. are no longer that cheap companionship they used to be.
... the average cost for a dog at the pet store.. $1200... then you have all the vet bills.. tags: license.... on average I spend... $29 for a medium sized bag of dry food..x2..per month.
..then .. 3 bags jerky treats.. chicken with sweet potato... duck jerky... and turkey jerky....per month.. average $12 per bag
..... then there are the chew toys..
.... and all that chew bones...
.... so yes pets are becoming a luxury item..... if Milo wasn't so cute..
.. and good at drawing the ladies into me...... I would probably just have a goldfish...lmao..... at least when you fall on hard times... you can eat the goldfish...lol

No
The hunter should always eat first so he has the strength to go out hunting for more food, otherwise the species would die outnoway

of course I would

Some places here in Arkansas, they abandon animals. We have seen about 8 in our first few years living here. We took 1 in, she had pups in a month. We have 6 dogs still living with us for 7 years now.

Our neighbor treats his dogs like they were cattle. (he said they were basically the same, as he grew up on a farm). He let his dog run around the neighborhood, saying it escaped out the hole in his fence. His first dog lived about 6 years before it was hit and killed by a car. He got another dog and it lived about 3 months being hit by another car. It was still a young dog. We told him not to ever get another dog.

Luckily it has never come down to that when I had a pet but yea I have fed pets when it meant my nutrition suffered.

Now I tend to buy them the "best" and spend more on their comfortable habitat than my own.

Recently when I was very ill and recovering from surgery I signed out AMA (against the docs technical advice) to go home probably earlier than I should have because I was stressing were my pets doing well. Probably part of it was just knowing being around them would be good for me too but I just wasn't a happy camper not knowing they were ok.

I agree with those who say we take on the responsibility when we enjoy the "privilege" of having pets.

I don't bust on people who do realize it is more than they could deal with and find quality alternatives.

I would not put a pet before my children but I don't think I could live with putting a pet in a shelter and just hoping for a reprieve unless it really made my or my children's health suffer. I thought about my pets versus going to see my sick grandson and the pets would have to deal with an alternate caregiver if it came to it.

Yep, my animals eat first. Even if I don't.

Spring knows it, too. Sometimes, I'll be nibbling a Slim Jim on the way home from work. When she smells it, she 'harrumphs!' turns her back on me and will lay there looking at her food (she eats when I get home) trying to make me feel guilty. It's cute. laugh

I dont see why such a choice needs to be made

if there is not enough, there is no reason the pet and I cant share

why should either starve if there is food

rather us both have a little ,,but thats just me
