i grew up with it and i dont think its harmful, it is only harmful when a parent beats the $hit out of them or hits em for no reason.

Well I never did believe in smacking on the face or the like. I say, let them know what they did wrong, and that it (the behavior) will not be allowed, and spank their little butt a few times. On the one hand, you want to let them know that you're not going to tolerate that behavior, but on the other hand, kinds are pretty helpless so you don't want to scare them or hit them out of anger. It's always important to warn them that if they continue, then the spanking will happen. Then, follow through with it.

I think a good smacking is what lots of kids need .
I was raised by my Grandparents and they were not spare the rod people . I've had spanking w/hands , belts , switches even a spatula once . Whatever was in reach . It didn't hurt me at all and it made me a better person . No emotional trauma .... I love my Grandparents they were the most wonderful people ever .

I believe parents should when necessary. Some kids need it and will not stop doing a bad thing until they are punished, but there is a point of beating them. parents like that shouldnt have kids.

i personally have never had kids but if i was naughty or rude we got what was coming. Kids these days even to teenage years are rude and have no respect for other peoples things. What they need is a good caning or a shumbok (made out rhino hide) makes your eyes water and your bum numb for a few hrs. Felt it a couple of times at school.

Yes, things have changed. Every time I hear of a parent who does not believe in spanking their kids at all, I just wonder what kind of nonsense they will get into later in life because their parents never taught them the consequences of doing wrong. No wonder the world we live in is getting crazier and crazier.

amen to that. I hate MOST teenagers these days. They are rude, disrespectful and all looking to get into one another's pants. At least some parents still raise their kids right.

my daughter get grounded and to her it is as bad as getting spanked she says dady you are hard on me but fair you are teaching me well

my son has had a spank on the bottom now and again but very rare....my best for of punishment ive found is to take what he loves of him his games , tv, etc he has to earn them back its very efffective

um sry to interrupt this rant about teenagers but infact im not one of those that some people like to stereotype, yes i used to have a mouth but being raised by good parents i have grown out of that stage. in fact people have claimed i am very mature and respsonsible for my age. i also dont want to get into anyone's pants, as it is my religion to wait until im married.

When my son was really young, I smacked him on the butt a couple of times......he always laughed and said it didnt hurt.....I dont think hitting a child really helps.......I know with mine it didnt!! I found the best way, with him was to take away something he really loved to do......like play a video game or be able to play with a friend etc.......then he started howling!!!
