Sometimes I wish we could smack other people's kids!
There are some fresh ones out there.
I got my butt kicked as a kid... toughened me up good. I think kids are a little soft nowadays with the bully free crap (which isn't enforced- ask my son).

Spanking loses its effect if done too often. Pick one REALLY good time and they'll take you seriously from then on... All I gotta do is flinch and my son knows it's time to stop pushing buttons.

On a lighter note: spanking too often creates freaks like me who like the spanking every now and then, if you know what I mean...

Ive been gettin hit for as long as I can remember and I turned out great..graduated at 16 and moved out at 17...and I respect my parents to the fullest..bein on time out for 10 minutes aint gonna do s**t for your kids..alittle smack aint gonna scar you for life..kids nowadays disrespect their elders with so much freedom..sceamin and kickin at a store for some candy..I woulda got slapped for that..someone has to be in charge..

This is YOUR "quote"! Now REMEMBER THAT! You say there is "no difference to self esteem being smacked or being beaten". That must be one of the most ignorant (I mean that in its litteral meaning..its NOT a flame) statements I have read in a while here.

Of course there is a HUGE difference! Are you BLIND too!!??

First rule is it's NOT "beating" if you are DISCIPLINING out of LOVE and NOT ANGER! In my house a child will NEVER get in trouble for an "accident" or a "mistake". But if they KNOWINGLY do WRONG, they can and expect an old fashioned "attitude adjustment" and that can include a belt on thier backside. AND they would be asked WHY are they getting disciplined and they would tell me WHY..so my statement to them would be "ok, so this was not an accident or mistake...you KNOWINGLY did wrong, therefore you will suffer the consiquences of your actions".

Our society has degraded to such a low because of the LACK OF DISCILPINE! Children able to sue a parent because they don't want to do thier homework or what the parent tells them to do. It's become idiotic!

Even the Bible says "spare the rod, spoil the child". The proof is right in front of your face!

Thats a good thing that it worked for you. A "spanking" was not "common" in my house..but it was always a possibility..and it was known..that helped curtail a LOT I am sure.


As to the kids at the store...not knowing "no means no". Of course they know what NO means. They just KNOW that there is NO CONSIQUENCE when they misbehave!

My son tried that, just like every other 3 year old. All it took was a qwik "3 finger stinger" on the back of his thigh and amazingly enough he straightened right up and knew EXACTLY what "no" meant when it came out of my mouth.

I think it depends on why they are being spanked. If you are angry and spank then that is wrong. If you spanked them because they were running into the road, then that would be a different story.

I was spanked as a child and I don't really think that any harm was done.

I hardly ever got spanked and I'm perfectly fine. Sometimes kids do need spankings but not all the time. I say spankings are necessary if they're doing something that could get them hurt, ie running into the street, climbing on things that could fall, and if they don't listen then a spanking would get their attention. I think it depends on the child's personality. A strong personality like my son does need a good swat on the leg from time to time to get his attention or get him to listen. A laid back child won't need spankings. And spankings do not determine how a person will be with they grow up, it's how the parents treat them. If a parent spoils their child and lets them walk all over them, then they will be brats and not respect anyone. A parent that teaches and gives their child respect will have a child that does the same

so you just let your kid run wild and do whatever they feel like cuz they dont know no means no...come on..that kid whos cryin in the store cuz they cant have something is around other kids the same or even younger age not actin like a fool..I aint sayin every kid has to get spanked to learn..im just sayin dont let them be the one pullin the strings...cuz thats common nowadays

Little kids are no different from adults when it comes to punishement. I don't think there is anything wrong with a pop or a swat but I find my daughter gets more upset and is less likely to do something if she has to hear my mouth, the silent treatment works too, and the worse this had my daughter in tears begging me not to do it ,the dreaded writing assignment. Why did you do what you did in 200 words. It is worse then popping her, or extra homework assigned by mommy. She actually once said can't you just spank me. Spanking does nothing for her. I want her to think about what she did, the thought process behind it. Even if she does something wrong, I want to know what she is thinking. Her survival in this world depends on her ability to think for herself and have good judgement. I can teach her and guide her but in the end I won't always be there to tell her what to do or how to act. That is why thought is important.

My child never acted like that. When I said no, I never once changed my mind. I couldn't be manipulated. My child learned NO meant NO. I never spanked - only time outs.

Sorry time out and singing kumbaya has never worked for my kids.A good swat on the butt or worse,taking away the vido games,tv or the like usually does the trick.I got swatted and us kids could be taken anywhere because we were taught to respect our elders ,other peoples stuff and we didnt dare act like an a s s in a store or touch anything.My son tests me sure but he knows not to push too far.

I agree.when a kid hit me in school,I hit back.Now its all about non violence..pshaw.Bullies only fear one thing,a great right hook!!

NEVER should a child be struck. In any form..There are many other ways to discipline other than hitting a child. Inflicting pain doesnt work and cant be tolerated
