"delivered frozen meat with tools hidden inside to two inmates" S2 / AP

a) Yes. Widely reported.

b) ?!?!

What the &^%$ are convicted murderers in an ostensible high security prison supposed to do with "frozen meat"?!

Take it to the kitchenette in their cell, thaw it in the microwave, and then saut it w/ shallots & garlic?

The 8:AM update was more about Palmer than the escapees.

"well, your the one that defends obarry at every other post" mm

What a revealing insight!
I deduce your derisive, disrespectful "obarry" reference is to President Obama.

The reality is, I defend the truth, and advocate for conservative political values.

Yet in your mind, that's:
"defends obarry at every other post" mm

You flatter Obama, and to some extent me, I suppose.
"... so your saying your not a liberal?" mm

I'm too s a v v y to identify myself in the negative; by what I am not.
We are defined by what we are, and I am politically & fiscally conservative. Not only talk the talk, but walk the walk. The only debt I carry is that which accrues between billing periods on my credit cards. I pay no interest on them; so basically it's the bank giving me interest free loans each month.
I own my diesel tractor, my motorcycle, my car, my home, and my estate free and clear; no mortgage, no loan.
I do it. And Uncle Sam should too.

I'm most likely far to the right of you, and unquestionably of our Republican congressional leadership, both loony lefties to me.
- Neither has advocated repealing all U.S. federal entitlement programs: that means Social Security, and all the rest of it.
Speaker Boehner (R-OH) doesn't advocate that.
Majority Leader McConnell (R-KY) doesn't advocate that.

I don't consider the VA an entitlement. I consider it an earned benefit; and I advocate preserving that, and that alone.

- I advocate surplus budgets and paying off the debt.
Rand Paul is the only one I know of that might support that. Is he "tea party"?

- The root word of "conservatism" means to conserve. What I intend to conserve is out 18th Century most noble principles. And they are articulated wisely by our Founders:
"Government turns every contingency into an opportunity for amassing greater power." John Adams

"There never was a good war or a bad peace." Benjamin Franklin

"He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself." Thomas Paine

I cyber-indulge you here mm because I am in some sense a patient man. I'm relatively new here, just tonight eclipsing the 300 post count.
I don't need to explain myself to you.
I don't need your validation.
And patient though I may be, I don't have the time to bring you up to speed on reality.

I merely offer you these very generous didactic insights so you in exchange will address my policy positions; and stop trying to confuse our fellow members by you so grossly misrepresenting my positions with false labels and little else.

If mislabeling is the best you can do, perhaps a children's forum would be more your speed.

"I didn't say that they {the cabin owners} were doing anything immoral or illegal!!!" 2A

Economically, if these hunters could afford a palace on the savannah, they'd probably have one.

These "hunting camps" are little more than wood shacks.
And the sad economic fact is:

a) They seldom lock them, because they know if anyone wants in, they'll break in.

b) A gun safe could cost more than the guns inside it.

c) I'm not sure "immoral or illegal!!!" is the highest standard here; and may be more like the lowest.
There are matters of ethics, and safety to the community.

I've got a .22 I use for both small game, and varmint hunting (I shoot porcupines on sight). When it is not in my custody, it is behind 3 doors with locks on each.

Perhaps I have misunderestimated you mm.
It is true that the definition of the word "liberal" has been in historic transition; as William F. Buckley Jr. explains:
"It [liberal] is pretty much now a lost word, in the original sense of being an effort to restrain government; and one has to keep that in mind when using it." William F. Buckley Jr. April 2, 2000 on C-SPAN

But you are correct, like William F. Buckley Jr., Dr. Milton Friedman, Ron Paul, Rand Paul, etc. I too support a restrained government.
If you wish to continue to mischaracterize that as liberal, be my guest.
"American people are friends of Liberty everywhere, but custodians only of their own." John Adams

Thank you for helping to burnish my modern day politically conservative credentials.

But I understand.
Without any legitimate criticism, it's easiest just name calling. And "liberal" is the Republican's boogeyman of the day.

I'll continue to post substance.

"who said it was a blunder?" mm

Persons of integrity.
More to the point, who say is wasn't?
" The Iraq War, which I wrongly supported, has cost the United States over $2 trillion. It has contributed to the deaths of an estimated half-million Iraqis and almost 4,500 Americans, one-third more than died on 9/11. Iraq has become a failed state, large parts of which are controlled by an organization whose savagery embarrasses al-Qaeda. (Yes, part of the blame for ISIS’s rise rests with President Obama’s policies in Iraq and Syria, but it was President Bush who bulldozed the Iraqi state.) And Saddam Hussein’s overthrow has allowed Iran—a regime Republicans depict as the world’s most dangerous—to extend its power in the region." Peter Beinart May 18, 2015

"... if you think paying ten dollars a gallon for gas" mm

mm:
I'm sincerely impressed.
That was impressive and expansive a non sequitur as I've read in quite some time.

If you have any proof U.S. consumers would be "paying ten dollars a gallon for gas (sic)" had the Bush (younger) administration not deposed Iraq's Saddam, you're welcome to post it.
But I know you won't,
because I know you can't,
because I know there isn't.

"You cannot negotiate with someone who cannot be trusted." mw

- ah -
So you're saying FDR trusted Stalin.
And Presidents Truman, and that old softie President Dwight D. Eisenhower, JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, & Bush all trusted the Soviets?

- news flash -

The U.S. has no need to negotiate such matters with our allies.
The U.S. negotiates with our enemies; our reason for periodic interactions with North Korea's totalitarian Kim Jong dynasty.

There are systemic problems with Secretary Kerry's negotiations with Iran.
The political party he's dealing with are not in supreme leadership.
It may all be for naught.
But Rand Paul is right. It was worth a try.
When we say War is a last resort; political conservatives like Rand Paul and I mean it.

Have the shoot first and ask questions later Republicans learned NOTHING from our titanic blunder in Iraq?!

- NOTHING ?!?!?! -

Then this topic title is irrelevant.

"negotiating from superior power level." u9

NO
BODY
negotiates from a superior nuclear weapons power level than the president of the United States.

Familiar, predictable Obama bashing.

There are over a dozen Republicans in contention for the 2016 presidential race.
One of the most conservative; deemed a "Tea Party" member by some, is Rand Paul.
"Diplomacy is better than war. We should give diplomacy a chance." Senator Rand Paul (R-KY)

Those that disagree with Senator Paul on this must take one of two positions:

a) Diplomacy isn't appropriate here, and we can just have another Middle East War, and shed the blood of thousands more U.S. tax payers.

- or -

b) $Boink it! Let the diaper-hats have all the nukes they want; no point in U.S. trying to do anything sub-martial to prevent it.

The politically conservative Republican is correct.
It was worth a try.

And this may very well mean a hideous, bloody War with Iran.

If you've got any blood kin in the U.S. military, you may wish to remind them to NOT re-up.

A little past noon a New York State Police spokesman, and a captain from the Forest Rangers had a news conference in Cadyville, NY.

Not much news except:
it was suggested the search is 24/7 to prevent one or both from sleeping (it's not known whether they split up or not).

They found a bloody sock, but State Police say that could just be a blister.

There may be one or more firearms missing from one or more of the buildings in the manhunt.

"If you go there with the14 th amendment... you may loose your crime solvers." S2

So be it.
Doesn't their oath of office oblige them to fidelity to law?

If so, the supremacy clause (6. 2.) seals the deal.

If they would perjure their oath, they don't belong in that job.

And what rational reason would they think they're entitled to different treatment under law than those they're sworn to "preserve, protect, defend"?

Apart from that I'm not in the least convinced capital punishment is more severe than life behind bars.

I suspect eternal bliss * would be substantially better than having to wade through the human cesspool of gen. pop.

t8,
Do you agree it's a 14th Amendment issue?

S2,
It's an interesting element of infotainment.
After the remarkable Israeli rescue at Entebbe of airliner hostages.
iirc it was about a week before a paperback book reached store shelves, title:
90 Minutes At Entebbe.

It will be interesting to see the Mitchell video, for several reasons.

5:AM/ET update: the manhunt continues.

The distribution seems to concentrated.
"Kill those who protect and serve and no one feels safe" David Rossi

On some superficial level I understand it.

But it seems like cart before horse to me.
The 14th Amendment promises "equal protection of the laws."

So if there are two homicides; one where a tax payer is killed, the other where a COP is killed;
why would the COP killer be more severely (or differently) punished?

If COPs are for our protection, why wouldn't it be the guy that killed one of us that's more severely punished?

- or, same for both -

I do sense the escapees are smarter than the LEO looking for them.

And I get the impression it's not a 24/7 search.
Are they knocking off at night?

When President Bush (elder) went after Panama's Noriega, I think the manhunt was around the clock.

The idea is to keep them cold, hungry, and tired.
Sleep deprivation causes the brain to stumble.

As S2 points out, we're starting week #3 on this.

The mystery deepens.

It seems the pair was hole up in a hunting cabin belonging to a hunting club.
Turns out some of the prison employees the murderers knew are members of the club.

Might they have let the murderers know it would be vacant this time of year?

And now police are concerned the escapees may be armed.

------------------------------

There are reports that tools were smuggled to them in ground beef.

So what is a seamstress doing with ground beef.

Does that mean the pair also got help from the kitchen?

Well t8,
Kasich wants in on the debate. I'm not sure they'll let him.

Walker seems the obvious choice for middle of the roaders that don't want JEB!

"the bible, for instance, had directions on how to treat slaves" mh
"Dear Dr. Laura,
Thank you so much for trying to educate people regarding god's law. I have learned a great deal from you, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can.
When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle for example, I simply remind him that Leviticus 18:12 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.
But I need some advice from you, regarding some of the other specific laws and how best to follow them.
When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the lord (Leviticus 1:9), the problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. How should I deal with this?
I would like to sell my daughter into slavery as suggested by Exodus 21:7. What do you think a fair price would be? I know I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Leviticus 19:24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking. But some women take offense. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I obliged morally to kill him myself, or may I hire a hit-man?
I know you have studied these things extensively, and so I am confident you can help.
Thank you again for reminding us that god's word is eternal, & unchanging."

"i would never vote for a socialist." t8

Which makes all the attention he's getting all the more baffling.

I wonder if it's that there are so many Republican candidates, they're sharing a larger pie; yet each candidate gets a lower total.

S2,
I'm in that club.
I like JEB! as a person. But I don't want him or Hillary to run.

Socialist Bernie Sanders is reported to be attracting larger campaign crowds than any other candidate of either party.

Perhaps they're mostly college kids.

The political pendulum swings. Isn't it the Republican's turn?

"President Sanders"?! - yikes -

Meanwhile, is there one Republican that's emerging from the group?
Or do we have to wait for the debates for that?
