That's the writer in me, Zee. Never was a day 1 word would suffice when I could write an entire novelette in an afternoon. I did a lot of sports (NFL-Packers, mostly) writing for 25 years, covering everything from the draft, free agency, pre-game & post-game dissections, to filling requests from fans of other teams to get my opinion on one thing or another about their team or players. I built a pretty substantial reputation in those circles as someone who could write objectively and without fan bias in my opinions. All told I posted over 33,000 articles and more than 4 million words on NFL football from 2001-2025. I've contributed Guest columns to the local rag from time to time as well. Been friends with an editor emeritus of the Cap Times since the 90s. Knowledge is power. While my profile is a long read, no woman capable of doing so should waste her time on me if what I describe myself as doesn't meet her desires. Problem is, hardly any of them bother even looking at it, let alone attempting to read it. Most of 'em can't even be bothered to fill out their own profiles, f/f/s.
Makes it a little easier to separate the wheat from the chaff anyhow. If they can't be arsed enough to find out something about me before sending me emails asking me to jump onto Wazzapp or googlychat, then they aren't serious enough to be a potential companion anyway. Ain't no shortage of 'em trying, on this site, though.
well I'll be tarnished and rolled in succotash a fellow writer.. mind you.. I'm not as accomplished.. although did have/publish my own local paper years back.. nothing anyone's heard of tho..
sometimes 1 word suffices.. other times.. a novel is required..
so many don't understand that.. that Knowledge IS power.. sucks to be them huh
I did read it.. for the most part..
but I hear ya on those wanting to jump on other chat platforms however have nothing in their profile other than "hi..." IF even that...

Yeah, this account has been scooped up THREE TIMES now. At least admins are getting better at correcting the AI-bot's screw ups. The 1st time it took 13 days to get it back, the 2nd time almost a week, & the third (this) time 3 days. Of course it's gunna happen again, this account is just AI-antagonistic I guess. Did ya ever wonder that maybe it's cuz of your long-azzed bio??? holy hanna Bob.. that's a short story in itself!!
Yup, liked Annika a lot. It falls into that UK procedurals category I mentioned liking. that "category" you mentioned encompasses a HUGE amount of shows.. I'm more targeted when mentioning certain ones as it gets a better individual reaction OR offers an option not yet thought of to others..
About your choice in reading....MZB sound familiar? Darkover is just about the richest universe of fantasy I've ever read from end-to-end. C.L. Moore, Leigh Brackett, Andre (Alice) Norton, Ann McCaffrey, Janet Morris, James (Alice) Tiptree Jr. and of course one of my correspondence partners, C.J. Cherryh - ALL terrific Fantasy authors in my collection(s) & all far more worthy of having movies made from their works than puddin'head Philip K.Dick. At least Hollyweird got it right by producing movies from a number of Ursula K. LeGuin novels. I use SF broadly but it encompasses Fantasy as well - though I'm most partial to military hard SF like Hammer's Slammers (Drake) & some of the new blood authors like Jay Allan, M. D. Cooper, & J. N. Chaney. These new breed of SF authors are actually more like writing co-ops, putting out co-authored volumes at such a prodigious rate it's hard to keep up. My favorite fantasy story of all time is "Of Mist, and Grass, and Sand" by Vonda N. McAntyre. I've read it 3 times now, about a decade between readings, & I still get all misty-eyed every time. I know about MZB.. read a few of hers.. as well as Ann McCaffrey.. I'm very selective about what and who I read tho.. the back cover has to REALLY capture my imagination or.. I move onto the next author's options.. I have a slew of movies & TV shows to catch up on and usually there's new ones to discover almost weekly.. and although I enjoy reading.. it's taken a back burner to watching these days.. when I was a teenager and needing a distraction from chemo.. I couldn't get enough of the "take me outta here" fantasy genre and just about always had my nose in a book.. things are different today so.. I prefer keeping busy doing physical hobbies until after dinner when it's 'showtime'.. |

don't get me started on the french quebecers..
Hé, ne vous moquez pas des Français ! Ils n'y comprennent rien parce qu'ils refusent de parler anglais comme nous tous.
Don't ask me what that says, 3 years of French (& 2 of German I was supposed to need for college) & I can barely count to ten in either one.
because I live in Quebec AND was born here.. I can make as much fun of'em as I choose!
but yer right.. most refuse to even learn, let alone speak english.. which is their loss as the #1 universal language is still english, and they're limited on where they can travel.. mind you.. most don't which IS their loss.. at least I can speak french.. not perfectly.. but I LOVE making'em think I DON'T which simply forces them to speak english or find someone that does

I have a few strays that show up for a meal every so often myself.. however there is 1 that comes into the house.. I'm more HER pet/doormat/doorman/chef
she actually started a fight with one of the raccoons earlier tonight.. the dumb twit.. mind you.. the coon took off quickly enough.. but then again.. cud be cuz I showed up
might I suggest adding a splash of peanut butter to your traps (clamps?.. never heard that term before) as mice are blind, they go by smell so.. that shud trap them.. being I live in the country, I get'em often enough.. have traps in my basement however I've sealed off all the ways they can get upstairs as I hated finding mice scat in my kitchen cupboards eesh.. over here our traps are 1 time use.. I don't empty mine, I just toss'em.. there are traps you can get that capture but not kill.. plus we have these sonic-sound type plug-ins that apparently drive'em nuts (I have a few of these.. they seem to work okay) Crystal.. ya don't need a man to define you OR complete you.. but that's just my opinion.. yeah.. sure.. it'd be great to have some help with things.. but that too can come from a friend.. I've been single for over 17 yrs.. by choice.. and I'm okay with that.. however like I said.. could always use some help with things.. like holding a 2x4x8 up while I screw in one end OR adding a roof to my deck
don't get me started on the french quebecers..

have either of you watched Annika?
it's a Scottish black comedy crime/drama.. I like Nicola Walker as an actor.. and loved this show.. disappointed it's been cancelled after only 2 seasons tho.. I have a few TB's of saved shows/movies myself.. plus a huge DVD collection AND some also on VHS.. as for books? I had a TON of'em.. sold some of my collection but.. still keep a few fave authors.. sci-fi is okay but my jam is fantasy.. Merlin, King Arthur.. those types.. authors like R.A. Salvatore, Elizabeth Moon (the deeds of paksenarrion is very good..) Dennis L McKiernan, Jrr Tolkien (LOTR movies were just as good as the read imo), Terry Goodkind, Terry Brooks and Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson movies sucked.. books were good - tv shows were pretty good in following the books - read this series with my granddaughter as a way to connect with her on a more individual level..) anywho.. I did read Battlefield Earth, I like it.. movie SUCKED.. fun fact.. the movie was actually shot about a mile from where I used to live.. cuz my cousin is a big celeb here (woooooooooooo.. big deal pffft lol) I got to visit the set.. it was interesting.. but didn't make me like the movie one iota more

A long read indeed, hihi. I did watch "See", cannot remember if it was mentioned or not, nor if why not. Some of the things you mentioned I tried but gave up on. One of which is "Person of Interest". I got fed up with it, and even Jim Caviezel's good looks and sexy voice couldn't keep me captivated, hihi. I do love this movie he did in 2008, "Outlander". Absolutely wonderful! I don't read much because I have a neck injury and causes me trouble in that sense. A real pain in the neck -literally- as I used to LOVE reading!! I'm a real bookworm, have been ever since I learnt to read way back when. Unfortunately not so easy anymore due to my neck. But the amount of books I've read in my life, unbelievable! I still read, but have to limit it, so it's only books I really want in physical form, not as E-book. I don't watch really old movies. I sometimes re-watch some great movies from the 90s, but nothing older than that. E.g. Men in Black, The Fugitive, US Marshals. Great movies! Horror or WW1-2 stuff really isn't my thing. The first lowers my vibration/energy too much, the 2nd I simply don't like. One war series I DO love is Tour of Duty. Got that on my HD. Absolutely brilliant series! (Vietnam war). There are a few things you mentioned that I'll look up :) Cheers for your input! I binge read, same as I binge watch. Last year I read about 300-350 books in mobi format (more like a book with pages than EPUB & its eternal scrolling). I use Calibre (Freeware) to convert formats on eBooks & set mobireader to display 3 pages horizontally at a time. I can read roughly 100 pages per hour if nobody is bothering me. I've read prolly somewhere around 2,500-3,000 SF novels over the past decade. I do have a dead trees book collection, which I've been adding to since the early '70s, & which stands at 6,534 volumes of SCI-FI paperbacks (about half are 1st printings) dating as far back as the 1950s. (Know anybody that wants to buy the whole collection? Cover prices add up to ~$30,000 but I'd let it go for $10k.) I mark 1,863 of the paperbacks as read but many of them are also present in the 156 GB of eBooks on my hard drives (124,753 Files, 21,071 Folders - many of them are in multiple formats (7:1+cover photo), which is why the files count is so much higher than the books/folders count) and have also been read even though they aren't listed as such in my Master SF paperback Excel & Access databases. I have a sneaking suspicion that although my family is extremely long-lived, I'll never get to read them all but I do try to clear dead authors' entire bibliography before moving on to the next - i.e. I've read everything Isaac Asimov ever wrote, etc. As for the Nazombie flix I listed, I took into account your non-predilection for both WWII & Horror genres but I believe they are really neither - more along the Bruce Campbell Evil Dead campy trilogy genre, intended to be spoofs on both genres, but funny as hell at the same time. Stretch yourself SparklingCrystal, give 'em at least a stab at letting yourself enjoy a few good laughs. You might surprise yourself. I mean, whooda thunk you could combine SF & Westerns (Cowboys & Aliens)? 2¢ always welcome Zee.

Was folding laundry and a thought hit me. If some type of disaster hit your area and you had to pack one suitcase, besides socks and underwear, (the most asked for items in homeless shelters), and needed I.D.s passport etc., what would you pack? Just like Noah did on the Ark.. LOL 2 sweatpants, 2 sweaters, 2 pairs of sneakers, 2 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of slippers, 2 sets of jammies, 2 pairs of gloves, toothbrush/paste, vitamins, a bunch of energy bars, a few bottles of water, a few rolls of toilet paper & a hair brush. I'd be wearing rubber boots, a raincoat (over a warmer jacket) and a baseball cap. |

Amazing what you have done and how far you've come! I know the mind is extremely powerful, as is the self-healing ability of the body. It is actually infinite. I learnt this from Dr Joe Dispenza. Many who have done his work have healed from stage 4 cancer!?! Also from stroke, being (partly) paralysed, MS and whatnot. I have started his work a few times, but I always lose motivation/inspiration after some 2-3 months. Like with working a 9-5 job as I told before where I get bored within the same timeframe, I also have this with healing work. I know from what Joe Dispenza says this is the exact time where you have to follow through. If you do, you're there. Stupid thing is, I just forget. And then think a week later, "Chit, I haven't done anything anymore?!!" In spite of my limitations I do a lot myself as well in and around the house. Being single, you have no choice, right? Sometimes I have to get help in though, volunteers as like you I can't afford to get paid-for help in. And funny enough much of what I do myself works fine, doesn't bother me much physically? A few years ago I had to put up a new 7m long gutter on the garage. I'd never done anything like that, normally your man does that, hihi. But I did it, didn't bother my neck/shoulders at all, which was quite unbelievable! But I was so proud of myself that I got it done and that it worked perfectly as well! I have yet to finish of the gutter on the other side. Half of it is done. Roofing I wouldn't do. Too heavy for me. I also have an issue with raising my arms up. Anywhere above shoulder height approx. makes my muscles cramp and triggers my neck. But I have a council house so that kind of thing I don't have to do myself anyways. I just phone them to tell them XYZ is broken and they sent someone over to fix it. I hope you manage to get or have it done without too much trouble!! I could get a parking thing for invalids too a few years ago. But for me there's no real added benefit. Yes, parking in town would be easier I guess, but I hardly ever go into town. I'd get a traffic sign on/near my driveway, which I do not want, hihi. But I'm on welfare as I wasn't working at the time of my accident, not disability benefit (which is substantially higher than welfare). Since I'm in the welfare system I cannot get permanent exemption from working/applying for jobs. I can only get 1 or 2yr exemption. Last time I got 2 years, which ends this April, meaning I'll again have to go to my manager and convince him I haven't healed and still cannot work. Sigh... Always stresses me out as when they decide I can work I'm b*ggered. I still have my dreams and hopes for the future though! I want to be free of that welfare system, be my own independent self, travel, have a wonderful partner. Give online courses on the masculine & feminine principles, sell paintings and meditations and so on. For that I'll have to get myself on track again. Spend about a year on getting balance in hormones after becoming post-menopausal. I started HRT last year (hormone replacement therapy). Takes time to get a balance, not there yet. I do hope it will alleviate my issues. If so, then I can begin to do stuff. Maybe. If I have the guts, hihi. thanks... to me it's simply a choice.. be reliant on the system (that's broken) and others (that have their own chit to deal with) OR.. on myself.. I choose me is all.. I didn't get any inspiration from any DR's or books etc.. it, like I said, was a personal decision NOT to accept the limitations others put on me.. it was a choice I made to improve myself & life.. after all.. I was a single mom of 2 without family or help so.. as I had only me to rely upon.. I stepped up.. I still have 3 herniated discs.. the dr's said they couldn't operate on them as too risky so.. I do what I need to when they act up.. and of course.. try not to get them agitated enough to act up LOL more similarities I see.. like you, I accept my limitations, to a point.. in other words.. I know when to stop and leave things until tomorrow.. aside from the shoveling and lawn mowing.. my OCD kicks in there
I have a LOT of trouble asking for help.. I guess I feel that everyone else has a life, is busy, has their own chit to do etc.. and I feel I'm imposing on them.. so I typically don't ask.. actually for the roof.. my only issue is the height.. I have veritgo.. so climbing up 20' off the ground will be an issue for me.. setting up the 18' long joists won't be cuz I've already worked out (in my mind) how I can put the 2 of'em up without help.. along with the 14' cross beams.. it's installing the plywood and tiles where I'll have problems.. but I'm sure I'll figure something out.. I'll have to huh
I hope all that works out for you Crystal.. that sucks you have to go thru hurdles every few years.. but I'm sure you'll set yourself up with some independent income to lighten your load.. |

Lucky you, not having to deal with those animals. Hopefully no human cougars either, haha. I always felt Australians were quite a lot like us western Europeans, not like Americans, which is why it felt so good to be there. I get the same vibe from Canadians. I know many Dutch went to Canada. You often can tell by the surnames. Lot of Dutch ancestry there. Also German and Belgian I think. Which makes you wonder how many have British roots over there. Maybe time to dig into Canadian history, hihi. But for now have to chase after a cat who's trying to eat food she's not allowed to eat due to allergy, grrr... there are cougars in Canada.. just not around these parts is all.. although human ones, we got plenty of those..
yeah.. Canadians are good people.. for the most part.. there's a lot of arrogant Frenchmen in my province tho..
we have a lot of immigrants from all over in Canada.. it's awesome the diversity of cultures and cuisines we enjoy.. is that your cat you're chasing? |

AI Overview China's extensive AI-enabled surveillance network is officially known as "Skynet" (天网, Tiānwǎng), which uses facial recognition and connects surveillance cameras across provinces to monitor public spaces . Launched around 2015, this system is primarily used by public security organs to identify individuals, crack down on crime, and assist in Operation Sky Net, which apprehends suspected economic fugitives. Google it. www.google.com/search?q=china+names+defense+AI+"skynet" sounds a bit like the show "person of interest".. maybe that's where China got the idea from..?
show ran from 2011 to 2016.. hmmmm.... |
