I really think people/the police can differentiate between a parent/relative, etc. waiting for a child to exit the public rest rooms.

It is when someone is constantly lurking around and acting in a suspicious way that the police need called.

How do you think most child abductions/molestations occur? The sicko has been watching school grounds, play grounds, malls, etc.

NO. if it is an innocent father waiting for his child, nothing will be done. The police are a bit more intelligent that just up and arresting someone for standing outside a public restroom. Charges do not stick until it has gone before a judge/jury and the person found guilty via our legal system.

most children are molested by family, friends of family, and people in a position of authority over children. Very few boogiemen jump out of the shadows and grab children, but it does happen. You canot strip people of their rights in public, you just have to make sure those found guilty receive the appropriate punishment, and that is death

The proposed law may seem extreme, but I do agree with its intent - to protect children. You can argue your "freedom" all you want, but I think children need to be protected from these pedophile monsters.

Okay, then you answer one question that was asked. A father takes his daughter to the rest rooms and is waiting for her. The police get suspicious. They don't believe him and take him away, now the daughter comes out and Daddy is gone and she is alone.

What then????

I'm quite certain if the Daddy told the police he was waiting for his daughter, that they would check to see if she was, indeed, in the restroom.

A lot of cops are of the mentality shoot first and ask questions later. They don't care what you have to say. They would rather make an arrest and let the court system sort out who is guilty and who is innocent

That is unfortunate then. I'm done with this topic. I voiced my opinions, and I reI understand your point completely in wanting to protect the children, I think everyone truly feels that way. I mean no disrespect towards you at all, your intentions are pure, unfortunately all would not hold themselves to the same level you do

Are the police really are that intelligent or care enough to make the right call in any situation where one might be innocent. Not a chance! What you see on "Cops" are very camera conscious police. Over my career, I consulted to three different major police departments. They arrest and let the judges/juries sort things out. Charges DO stick until the judges/juries sort things out! Everyone knows that in this country, you are presumed guilty until proven innocent!

I will tell you as a former LEO that if someone strikes a cop as odd, he will use whatever definition in the law that he can to challenge that person. This would be one more step towards a police state imho

Well, guess I do not understand this whole law that went into effect.

I do agree that child molestation is such a horrid thing and I have no compassion for one who does this heinous act.

True, many children are molested, etc. by relatives, neighbors. There are just so many sickos in this world, where do you begin to try to put an end to it?

But, really, is it not true that police have to have a 'reasonable cause' to arrest someone? Perhaps this new law is way too ambiguous.

Its a local law!

When they talk about making it a Fed law, call me!

well ya know that is how it starts

it doesn't effect me i do not care

well by the time it gets to you

it will be strong enough you will
not have a chance in defeating it

goes back to the when they came for -- adage

adj is right, that is how all the big problems start as small unconcerning events until it is a humongus problem. People need to be proactive to these things

That law would never go anywhere but Maine...noway noway

We get Yankees moving here all the time. When you ask them why they say they like the life here. Two years later they are trying to make some stupid ass law that would make here like there. We tell em to go back there!!!drinker

Maine is heavily populated with Mormons, I think and their brand of justice and politics aren't like ours.

The FBI complains all the time that they never get any help from the residents of WNC when they try to run an investigation here, We are fiercely independent, and dont want Federal interference in our lifes.

There is nowhere like here. We are even independent for the most part from the rest of the state.

Damn Flatlanders!!grumble

where are the parents of these kids being "lurked" at? If it was my child and I thought someone was not appropriate...I'd say something but like it was said...who is to say what's in someone's mind. maybe the look on the face is nothing more than vision problems

Over here we just beat the sh!t out of pervs that hang around eyeing little girls/boys with bad intent...usually dad shows up with a bat or crow-bar..no need to get the law involved.
