The proposed law may seem extreme, but I do agree with its intent - to protect children. You can argue your "freedom" all you want, but I think children need to be protected from these pedophile monsters.

smokin The intent is stupid toosmokin

the phrase " in order to save the childeren " has often been used in an attempt to sway people into givng away thier rights, or to impose ridiculous laws, of which this is one. After all, if someone opposes them they must be a monster. cmon comerades, and recognise a big brother moment for once.

For all the ridiculousness of this law, I "DO" believe in States rights to make their own laws.

This law can only be defeated by the residents of Maine.
The rest of us have no right to do anything.

Just keep your eyes and ears open to a similar law coming toward your State and be prepared to defeat it there.

If the people of Maine want this law that's their business. Its not a Federal law its a State law. It doesn't pertain to us!

Yeah! Let's put everyone in prison and call them sex offenders, that way every child will be safe.

Hhhmmm... now that's an idea!

a man who appeared to be observing children entering the community bathrooms

Someone please tell me how this man was sexually attacking someone by observing them ENTER a spcae that had four walls, a ceiling, door(s) and clouded windows (if any) that prevented the man from seeing the person while they were inside?

Now, if he were standing outside a window and peering in, or watching through the door as it was opened and closed, I could see an issue.

But what about a poor husband whose wife is in the bathroom, and he is watching for her to come out, so they dont miss each other? Or a boyfriend and girlfriend, or even just friends?

I call bull$hit on this one.

Sorry, I did not mean that you were wrong, I am not gonna bother looking cause I believe it IS true and factual. When I said bull$hit, I meant it was a bull$hit law, that should NOT be allowed to be passed.

And heaven forbid if you are waiting for your twelve year old daughter to come out of hte bathroom fathers, now your guilty of sexually attacking your own daughter.

maybe if parents would step up and be responsible for looking out for their kids and stop expecting laws to be passed for looking at the child...then we wouldn't need stupid laws. as far as i know....looking isn't a crime (unless you are trepassing etc) and i keep an eye on my son and any other child because you don't know who will be kidnapped etc....but for someone to look...come on. maybe the person has seen the child somewhere before (like at their kids school or something) and just trying to figure out where they have seen them before. NOT A CRIME or even perverted. or they could just be staring off into space and not even realizing they are looking at someone (i do that often)

this law would be nothing more than a witch hunt out to get people who aren't even doing anything. a good way to prevent your child from harm is to keep an eye on the child. the cops have real criminals to look out for

what about letting a kid grow up and knowing what a loony is on his/her own? I dont want the gov't telling me that they know best for me, and this law is stating that without OUR help in notifying you of predetors you wont know what one is. Whatever happened to dont take candy from strangers and when asked run like hell! That to me is the biggest problem, is that people cant think for themselves anymore and it all starts with "it's for the children." Kids are just as smart as an adult just as long as they are given a chance. When that growth is stunted by a manipulating parent, i.e. the gov't, things go bad and that child will never be able to think for themselves. I think that is the whole purpose of this law, to give the people an undying love for the gov't and its holier than thou intent.

sub... yes it is the PARENTS job to raise their kids and teach them these things...but you know there are parents out there that don't care as long as the kid isn't bugging them. i raised my child with certain things and hope when he's on his own at 18 (17 now) that he will have been brought up to learn to be a man. but looking doesn't make someone a predetor for examples I have given. a 5 yr old (no matter what you teach them) wouldn't stand a chance if someone really wanted to do something which is why the parents should be aware of where their child is and what is going on. the sad thing is...there are parents that care more about themselves than their kids. but it's the parents (and any responsible adult) to look after them...not the cops bugging people because they looked too long at a child...ya know?

lol adj...until my son is 18...i'm responsible for him. and that includes teaching him right from wrong and doing all i can to bring him up safely (not talking about the minor things that happen to kids). i see it all the time that parents don't watch the kids. i have pulled a child out of the street before because the parents weren't watching the child. but i don't think it's right for a parent to not take some responsibility if something happens and they weren't watching the child. that's neglect to me. but someone just watching someone isn't against the law nor does it make them sick. i usually stare back at the people that stare and they take a hint lol. but if i notice someone paying special atention to a child not their own...i will make my presence known

I 100% agree that it is the parents responsibility to raise a child. The police have to many other things to responsible for, like, in the city I live in Los Angeles, making sure that other criminals are treated with the utmost respect while things like leering are punishable by something close to a death sentence. I wonder if a man is caught leering a child, will he have to register as a sexual felon for the rest of his life? What are the chnces that this one man will ever be productive in this society? This will only lead to more hysteria and the only place people will turn is to the gov't. Te gov't had been SO SUCCESSFUL at their other endeavors, what makes them think that this will be somewhat on par with a success story. The only thing I see this leading to is total failure, heartbreak for the falsely accused, and torment for a child that is pressured to testify on the behalf of an overzealous prosecutor enorder to ensure the next budget.
