I have been in law enforcement since I was 21 years old, both as sworn and now non-sworn. I have never dated anyone but cops. Every time a guy finds out about my career and he's not law enforcement they disappear. Is the fact that a woman is in this particular field just a major turn off for guys? It seems to be my experience.

I think it makes some men feel inferior. And if it makes them feel inferior then they probably are. The other way I think about it is that they may judge you as they do some of your peers that are not great officers. More people here about the bad encounters with police than about the good ones. But if they judge you by your career rather than your character they are not that great a person anyway.

Yup. I used to be a Deputy, and alot of my female co-workers often had tales of guys running away. Women flocked to the guys, but guys fled the ladies. I still don't understand why.

Ruth, thanks for posting this topic.

I've been wondering about this lately. I'm going to be sworn in this week and start working. I've been hesitant to tell any men that I've communicated with, since I didn't know how they might react.

I have had this problem with working in construction management. Half of them seem to think I boss men around all day, so will be a ball buster at home, the other half thinks it's just too much temptation for me to resist. They don't understand that I have seen so much butt crack for so long now, I am immune to it's charm. noway laugh

I have seen 2 occasions where the men were totally different towards people after law enforcement training as they were before involvement with the career field. I was told by the second guy that he had instilled in him that "everyone's doing something illegal.....all I have to do is find out what". I'm wondering ......do women change the same way??????

Maybe this was isolated though......I just don't know....

HAHA... I never really thought about the issue before.
But now that I think about it.
Every.. I mean EVERY Police woman or former Police woman I know are married to a Police man.

But a Police Man is not necessary married to a Police woman.

Maybe it has something to do with Musculinity & Femininity roles.

Some women(many) have a thing for men in uniforms....policeman, firemen, even men in suits turn women on....I play this this little game called 'Doctor'....that way i can give her a 'checkup'.....now where's my stethoscope?....say "Ahhhhh" shocked

Well, it does seem to be a problem. At least for the female cops I know and myself.

Being in law enforcement changes you, no doubt about it. But, I don't know many cops who think that way. I'm sure they are out there and I have worked with some major jerks. But, most of the people I have known in my career are good people.

Anyway, I appreciate the responses. It would seem that while there are some to whom it would not make a difference, the issue for me is a reality. So, I can continue to date cops (which I really don't want to do) or wait.

Curious that you say you don't want to date cops. Do you mean you don't want to date cops at all, or you don't want to date cops exclusively?
