Its not so straight forward.

Do stick insects and goldfish have emotions? Im not sure they do.

More intelligent pets like cats and dogs obviously do.

All I can assume is that you never had pets. Anyone that has, would know the answer. Unless they fall into the group of people that mistreat pets. And I won't say what I think about that. Too much violence would be involved.

Brain size body size ratio. I think insects and goldfish have brains too small to have portioned off an area devoted to the development of emotions.

Sometimes my cat wants to sit on my lap and be petted...and I don't want to for whatever reason...I'll push her off..and she will try over & over to get back on my lap until I yell at her and shove her away......then she will jump on the back of the furniture and lay there glaring at me madmadmad I know she's p*ssed off at me! scared
