The reason I ask is, I've posted threads that (I thought) had some substance and would make for interesting conversation. Not all of them, but most. They all seem to drop like a stone.

On the other hand, I've seen threads of "inane drivel" posted that have gone the full limit PLUS, into parts 312 and parts 742 and so on.

What gives?

Some of the "inane drivel" threads are really just a group of people hanging out and chitchatting. Very few are exclusive, anyone who wants to drop in and chat is free to do so. While the original title of the post might seem frivolous, for some reason it stuck, usually because of the people involved and not the topic.

Might want to check some of them out, you might be surprised and maybe make a few new friends flowerforyou

Exactly Suz, I get involved in other threads and no, they don't all last but they're interesting... However, there are threads that go on and on, mostly it's b/c people have become friends and like to meet up in that thread and chit chat, inane or not they appreciate each other... I adore the people I chat with on my thread and a lot of others that have their own but don't post in my thread, I try to always pop in and say hello...

ive noticed that the topics that last are the ones that are about nothing in particular. every time i start a thread i think is interesting it always dies rather quickly.

Apparently, there must be some kind of requisite criteria needed to create a thread that will go a full 50 pages (or more). What's the trick?

There are three kinds I have seen:

1.) Matchmaking threads, because lots of people are interested in being matched up.

2.) Inane drivel.

3.) Clique threads, where the same 6 people post the same posts 100 times a day each until it hits 50 pages and rolls over.

got that right.

Here's one reason threads go bust is because the OP no longer participates.

Another reason, the subject has been discussed a number of times (inane drivel) winking

Wishful thinking, sorry. I'm still here, I've just been watching to see where this would go, if anywhere. I do beg your pardon if this subject has been discussed before. I looked, but I did not see any such topic already posted, so I figured it was 'safe ground'.

Here's the thing: I made a tongue-in-cheek question (albeit a legitimate question), and many people just twisted it around to suit their own agenda, like it was a personal attack on them or something. Their claws came out in defense. By and large, my half-hearted query was met with ridicule, contempt, condescension and mockery. That's okay, as it's of very little to no consequence to me, and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. However, it taught me a very valuable education today (see? I'm always learning). All those people accomplished today was the reinforcement and validation of my inherent mistrust of strangers.

I have started several threads that I though contained interesting topics. Most of them lasted just a few pages.

The most recent one I started has now gone to version 3. Some of the questions asked in that thread could be considered " inane ", but quite a few people post serious questions.

From what I have observed, most people here just don't seem to be all that interested in subjects that require " deep " thinking.

Although I find discussing some subjects a perfect way to determine my compatibility with someone, I do understand that there are a whole lot of people that are here not only looking for dates, but also just to relax and have some fun with friends.

(((Merle)))

Sometimes, I think it's the topic Music, not everyone agrees all of the time and topics to end up changing by accident at times, I've seen that here and there..

There is some deep thinking in the political and religion threads.

But seriously folks...........

I've noticed a number of threads of some longevity that have in common a certain amount of talking dirty.

Just an observation.

Ironic that one gets angry about something being done to them when they've participated in doing to others the very same thing.
