I tried lowering my standards when I was younger, and that didn't lead to anything good at all.

I'd rather be alone.

As for my standards, they're spelled out quite thoroughly in my profile. Anybody who is that interested will get the complete picture there.

I think lowering your standards means dating someone who has some quality, or characteristic, that you abhor.

Broadening your search just means that you might date someone you've otherwise overlooked for any reason besides the ones above.

I think there's a big difference.

Aside from the younger bit and the last paragraph, pretty much dead on. I lowered my standards, didn't work out...I'd rather be alone and happy than with someone and miserable.smokin

I've never lowered my standards, so I think that's narrowed my search, but I'd rather have it that way. I don't want to drown in a sea of people, a small pond will do me just fine.

I agree. You broaden your search to remove some of the exclusions but those exclusions were put in place by you(generally speaking). Why would you want to tweak with that? I do see how it can mean expanding the distance, if you are one to do the LDR thing. If not, don't open that up either. Stick to what you want and you just might find it. happy

hmmm , Why is it , when people talk about broadening , they always think that to do so , they have to lower their standards . If you keep an open mind , you might find something that you never expected and would have missed out on , if you had stuck to what you thought you wanted .

I see your point how you worded it... I include all the people I might have over looked in the broadening of my search as of now... I took it in the context of lower your standards as broadening it any more then it all ready is? biggrin

If I broaden it any more I would be lowering my standards...

I dont think that broadining your search (spelling) is lowering your standards... I think it is compromising yourself... you know what you like, if you "broaden" what you like to get more "hits", your not being honest with yourself...

I know what I like.... I have "standards", and I have learned not to compromise them, because in the end, it just wont work if you compromise on what you know you are compatible with....
