 Do people expect too much from romance?

You can only expect too much if it gets in the way of your love life. For example, if you expect your partner to be perfect, you will never find perfection, and may even leave some people who would have been great mates slip right by you.

However, person to person it varies. Some possess it, some take it easy.

A tough but good question .I think maybe it's not that they expect too much but rather the hustle of this world makes reality crush in too soon .So romance ends up lasting a shorter period than some would like !

I concur with your thoughts. People are so busy they do not take the time for themselves let alone others.

I agree with both of you. We don't seem to take the time to "smell the roses" anymore.

I think the word "expect" is the problem with most relationships today.....love and romance needs time to cultivate and grow. There is a lot to be said about "take the time to smell the roses". So many things in our lives are rushed today, I don't think that love and romance should be one of them though.

I agree with that. People usually want something that is not ideal in relationships and expect that the outcome should be in they're liking.

Everybody's idea of romance is different, so what your partner thinks is romantic, you may not and vice versa. Just appreciate each other's gestures of love and don't be demanding. Expectations and demands kill the romance.

You are kidding right?
I have zero expectations. Of course that has really gotten me no farther than when I had tons of expectations. Sure does help to ease the mind though. No more worrying over it!

romance is waaaaaaaaaaaaay overrated

I expect nothing.
If someone wants to do something for me, then do it

Do it because you want to, not because you feel you have to or expect something in return...

It's not that people expect too much, rather that they aren't putting enough effort into it.

i think that we worry so much about whether our partner is meeting all our needs when instead we should concentrate on ensuring those parts which me might feel are lacking, and try to rectify them ourselves.

in other words, take responsibility for any lack of romance and make it happen yourself. do something romantic for your partner. that is when i feel most romantic.

What is this "romance" you speak of? Is it a produce, I'm never really good at produce...like carrots, I absolutely hate carrots...so if it is anything like that I want nothing of it. Now if it is like a Milky Way, I'll be all over it...but it doesn't sound like it would be anything like a Milky Way, sounds more like a carrot...
