Something to think about here, you meet someone new, but you've had your furry companion(s) for years and won't give them up. Your new beau or belle doesn't like dogs or cats or both. What do you do?

I would no longer have a signifigant other. If they cant love the pet, they cant love me.

see you guys know, our relationship with our pets goes deeper than any hot girl or guy that comes along. Our pets are our children. Love me love my cat or love me love my dog. Glad you guys understand.

Well, they don't have to love my cat, or even my boys for that matter, but there has to be some acceptance...

So if I met you and we started dating, would be be upset and jealous if I loved your dog or cat more than I love you?

Bonny, actually no, and you would bring an interesting dynamic to the relationship, I would be fine with being friends if you loved my dog or cat more than me. If that is your wish, then butterflies are free to fly, just know that my pets are getting the better end of the deal.happy happy happy

we could have all our dates at his house and let him cook, clean up and entertain.

if we decided to live together i wouldn't get rid of the pet, but i probably would agree not to buy another once the one i had died. it depends on how much i like the guy.

Actually had a friend this happened to. He was allergic to cats. When they got married, they compromised. The cat is relegated to his finished basement. She can go down there and visit it anytime she wants. The cat is happy, just doesn't have the run of the whole house.

It was a deal-breaker tho. He wouldn't have married her if she hadn't agreed to it.

You see where I'm going with this, then. If you truly love the person, you'll make whatever concession you can, otherwise you or the other will drift apart.

I'm terribly allergic to cats. But I like them. I just don't date disgustingly dirty irresponsible people who are ill capable of taking care of their cats, and have a filthy catfur covered home because they don't clean. Catfur covered spaghetti is just freaking nasty. Catfur toothbrush. Catfur covered linens. Catfur carpeting. "Oh! Its linoleum! Sorry, pig". Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm what's that nice ammonia piss smell? Oh forgot to change the litter box for a week? Nice!

And of course the lazy procrastinating potsmoking loser person with the disgustingly filthy catfur covered home that smells like catpiss is the first person to claim "You either accept me and my cats or you can leave! Hey! Where are you going?!! You're leaving?!! Fine"!

I can tolerate cats. I cannot tolerate disgusting pigs.

But in the same since....if I started dating a girl, and she came over to my place and despised my cat or had an alergic reaction to it, I wouldn't settle to put my cat (who was there first) in someones basement just because I want to get to know this girl.

Its like asking...can you over look someone who smokes if your madly in love with them. If you dont like smoking...you just straight up shouldnt be with them.

In other words....theoretically, you would find out if they enjoy pets or not before you fall in love with them. Unless your the type that falls in love with someone before getting to know them. And at that point let them know that its not going to work out....and start a search for someone who does like your companion.

And don't anyone tell me you haven't met or dated anyone like I just described. Because I won't believe you. And if you actually have not......you're very lucky.

Ahh that I cannot deny. But dating and falling in love with someone are different. I would not seriously date someone, whome I felt there might be a future with, if they were not cat friendly.
