what did he do in 10 days to deserve it???? I hope he can live up to it. if he doesn't then it reflects on the country. but he didn't earn it...it was more of an honorary thing

That's your view, but that doesn't mean it was decided on actions with in that 10 days. That fact that he got it also reflects on this country, so why can't we just be happy that our president got that award and wait and see what happens? It's an opinion that he didn't earn it. Many thought he did, me included. Some one's opinion that it was honorary is interesting and plausible but we might never know.

I'm not proud because of why he got it...basically a wake up call to get things in gear...not because it was earned as president. ohwell

how does any one know who else was nominated??? they don't release that for 50 years according to the site

Nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize

Every year, the Norwegian Nobel Committee sends out thousands of letters inviting qualified people to submit their nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. The names of the nominees and other information about the nominations cannot be revealed until 50 years later.

Well Rose one simlpy has to look for the people who were formally nominated 50 plus years ago and read their stories.Although I don't know who is currently nominated I think it's safe to say they weren't just pretty faces who won popularity contests.I'm sure the 100 plus people who were on the list probably included a few female civil rights leaders living in Afganistan and Iraq and who also were the first females to ever hold positions in that government.

IN a point of view, it's a good encouragement for him to stay on the right track.

Sometimes when you win, you loose. Now he has to live up to his words, and in this point of view, it's a good thing.

He would definitely disappoint many if he doesn't go after stopping these bloody wars and not to aggregate other nations for more wars in the future.

Basically, he has to fulfill his promises or he's gonna find a lot of disappointed nations.

Good point

Well and I think all the naysayers have to remember this award has absolutely nothing to do with our economic problems here at home or anything like that that they say he hasn't done.

This award is for the furtherment of peace in general through thoughts or actions.

the Nobel Comittiee just responded for the "why"

"Some people say - and I understand it - 'Isn't it premature? Too early?' Well, I'd say then that it could be too late to respond three years from now," Thorbjoern Jagland, chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, told the AP. "It is now that we have the opportunity to respond - all of us."

What does it say about the state of our country when we will not accept the honor given our president as just that an honor?

If the committee feels he deserves it and gives it to him isn't our job as American citizens to applaud?

I don't think its a duty to be applaud it. But if one is smart, no matter what I thought of it I wouldn't be putting him down for getting it. Why? Because it just makes those who do look petty and small. If I were the Republicans I wouldn't put my image further in the toilet by acting like children about it. Goes for the other side too had Bush won it.

I don't get how it would be too late if it's awarded on achievements. IMO it would mean more if I got it for something I actually did.

I just don't get the whole thing and not something I'm going to have a party for ohwell

if he had won it based on achievements...then woo hoo go BHO

I don't agree with putting him down. He isn't to blame at all. I just wish he would have earned it...but it's just my opinion that he didn't earn it ohwell

I would applaud if he earned it. just handing it to someone slaps others in the face that earned it. if he won it by his merit...I would to say way to go and be proud. he didn't earn it

I kinda doubt anyone worthy of such an honor would be the petty type, it's not a slap in the face at all. They are just as worthy of it as they were before. To millions out there it was on merit, just not the kind you apply. Oops. I think I said that already.

to me people like Gandhi and others like that in the past earned it through their actions. And I would agree that BHO earned it if he has done something but nothing had been done at the time the voting closed. If after a year....2...3...whatever...his actions showed he tried to do something...then yes give it to him and I would be proud of that....but nothing had been done yet

That's all this boils down to, he just didn't earn it. Whether I can't stand the man or not, he doesn't deserve it. Even some democrats say he doesn't earn it so bashing us conservatives for giving our honest opinion is hmmmm...... I'll be nice.

Obama plans to donate the $1.4 million cash award that comes with the Nobel Peace Prize to charity.

http://www.wpbf.com/politics/21246443/detail.html

Thats mighty big of him considering that he isn't one of those elite rich guys...

Actually it is, at least that can be applauded. Or maybe not.

sometimes I wonder how much we know. Or don't know. And how much others - in higher official positions- know, compared to us, simple average people.

Ever wondered about that, Kim?

Seriously...no conspiracy theories here, but lately the tensions regarding the Afghanistan and Iran is getting very tense and the worst thing we need is a nuclear war.

Proof: 99% of USa didn't know how close they got to a nuclear war in the 60s, when Kennedy managed to negotiate peace and the time it was before a nuclear holocaust: 10 minutes.

Ever seen the movie " 13 Days" ?
