Judge me for what i do not from what others like me did.

Judge me not for how I look (color, race) but for what I have to offer.

Don't prejudge me, get to know me and then you can judge me.

A slanted experiment from the outset, will achieve slanted results.

When out to confirm a theory, one usually looks for conclusive evidence to substantiate the theory....

Your theory is that men are shallow......so are out to prove your theory correct.

I disagree with your methodology....and if you find your theory substantiated.....who are you going to date?

Women? huh

let me correct one thing

it wasnt an experiment from the outset....for better or worse i am pretty much a person who takes people on face value and accept what they say (yeah yeah I know - idealism - idiocy - call it what you want but i prefer to have people prove me wrong than have me proven right - hence the post!)....I actually didnt believe that men are shallow - I hold to the belief that men are just like women at the base level - no one wants to be lonely - everyone wants someone to talk to - everyone wants someone to want to talk to them....nothing shallow about that....

the theory only arose after a pattern started to appear - at first I was only sending the black and white photo....I didnt even have a colour one available - and i was up front in advising that it was without any make up at all.......

notwithstanding that - EVERY experiment has a hypothesis and a theory to begin with....it is the RESULTS of the experiment that determine whether the theory and/or hypothesis is correct - not the other way around....

the experiment is not about whether people prefer pretty photos....it is about people not being up front about what they want (ooohhh ....theres that IDEALISM again...expecting honesty - sheesh what was i thinking!)......

and lastly - the experiment will not stop me from wanting to date men......it has just given me a bit more food for thought about this 'online' thing......whole new world for me......:wink:

There was a time, and in some places there still is, when the vast majority of marriages/relationships were determined by the village matchmaker, social caste, social class, parents, attacks by horny pirates, etc...A lot of these relationships can only be judged by the contentment in the marriage. Not all. In the Bible one man had to work for fourteen years to finally be with the one he really wanted.Most arranged marriages were from outside the marriage and looks had very little to with the end result. Superficiality and inauthenticity are certainly at the forefront of todays thinking. Some folks are not the greatest beauties, but once you begin to look at the soul....there you can find wonderful beauty....beauty to make even a grown man weep.
Idealistic. yes...but I just do not care.

Idealism.....it's one of those wonderful qualities....

and hoping to discover that rare creature capable of being clear and uncontradictory, as to who they are, and how they project themselves...

Archeologists found footprints in the cooled magma of this mythological creature....and still the legend lives on...:wink:

OP, if you were out shopping for a new dress, or new shoes, would YOU pick the ones that YOU thought looked ugly?

or would you opt to purchase that ones that you thought looked nice?

~~~~
sorry, i've never bought into the concept that appreciating and desiring that which you find attractive as being shallow.
i think shallow comes into play when you date that beautiful person and stay with her in spite of there being absolutely nothing else she has to offer (either to you or to society) in way of intellect, personality, social skills, etc.
am conducting a 'social experiment' if you will on another site after becoming incredibly suspicious that yes men just look at the pictures and no further....
the profile i have seems to be getting plenty of hits and have had lots of contact...then it came to the photos....
i have a choice of several photos - one taken at the end of a six year old birthday party after a week of working fourteen hour days - it is in black and white and i am wearing absolutely zip makeup - the photo i think is quite ok for an 'a la naturale' look and shouldnt scare anyone away
the second photo is of course in colour - and i am wearing makeup - you can tell it is the same person but this is quite an attractive photo...
the experiment?
i alternate btw sending the black and white photo and the colour one
no prizes for guessing which one gets the most responses
what amuses me no end though is that all these men absolutely insist that 'looks' are not 'that important'....it is a brain they are looking for - someone with a sense of humour, an intelligent mind, who is caring and compassionate and who has their shite together
blah blah blah....
oh and btw - it doesnt matter if they are 'ugly' men or 'good looking' men (if you subscribe to an aesthetic point of view' - they all go for the pretty photo...
the next part of the experiment - i will make contact again with those that didnt respond to the plain photo by sending them the pretty one...
lets just wait and see if they respond to that...if they do...it proves me correct...you really are a shallow species...
Go treat a short, fat, old and ugly homeless man to dinner and a movie, then take him to bed. After that, tell us all how enlightened you are.
Sometimes we see beauty outright,.....and there it is.
And then we something else in someone....beauty of a different sorts.
Ive been with beauty and Ive been with beauty of a differnt sort and I will take what is behind curtain #3
Is it shallow to admire the beauty that nature has blessed some individuals? No.
It can be if that's all one focus' on or looks at. Perhaps I mean that they expect it. Many males focus on movie stars and porno stars for their ideal picture of how a woman should look. Many do not.
I know I want to be free to admire and be attracted to certian qualities. So I can understand completely where they are coming from. Does that mean I expect a nerdy, rich, tall, blue eyed, dark haired man to sweep me off my feet? AS IF. It'd be nice, don't get me wrong though. It's highly unlikely. If I'm going to be more realistic he'll probably be a chubby, cuddlemonkey who makes me laugh and wears a stupid ball cap. If there's one thing that irks (or puts me off rather) in a photo is if he's wearing a baseball cap. Baseball caps give me weird ideas: WHAT ARE YOU HIDING?! Are you bald under there? Maybe you're hiding a mullet? Is it like David Bowie's in Labyrinth? That'd be cool! Why are you tilting it like some rapstar wannabe? Don't you know it's silly? Why don't guys get that girls want to play with their hair as much as they like ours? AUGH!
oops offtopic Right...
Like people attract. It's just the way I've seen it. If you're a beautiful person chances are you'll find someone who goes with. This is not something that's much of an experiment. What would help though if you did have a bunch of different people both men and women doing exactly what you did. Then it could be more conclusive and wouldn't discriminate sexually.
i wouldn't date an overweight man because i don't find obesity attractive, either in a physical sense, or in an active sense. i don't see how that makes me insecure. (i'm not talking about a bit of a gut or a few pounds extra by the way.)
i've met really cute girls 5.5. 130 killer body. guess what their gone after 3 or 4 lays. their phoney knowing they can get anything they want
define cute. define ugly. heck, define 'killer body'. your perception of what is beautiful differs from the next guy. so while you may base your assessment of 'cute = phoney' on your own experiences, it isn't always true for another and probably isn't true for most.
ummmmm, what's a 'spr'?
also, to me anyway, dating is a getting-to-know-you stage of going out for dinner, activities, etc. and spending quality time with that person before deciding whether you want to be intimate with them or not.
spr is spread. looking from the front or back? laugh and if your lucky maybe seeing what heaven looks like. happy this thread is about being shallow. we've all shown that everybody is shallow in their own way. when it's all said and done i just don't want to be in a shallow grave. :heart:
