I was reading a post in another thread where someone was talking about this question being asked on another site.

If someone asked you this question, would it offend you? Do you think having a car is important when trying to date? If you don't have a car, do you make an effort to meet your date somewhere, rather than having them pick you up all the time?

#1-Would it offend me to be asked if I had a car? No it wouldn't.
#2-Is it important when trying to date? I'd rather date a man than a car but to each their own laugh
#3-does not apply I have a car.

would not offend me... where I live? Yeah, you need a car..

but if you lived in the big city (LA, Chicago, NY)... I am sure there are many that do not have cars that are still "upwardly mobile"...

I think it is asked, becuase owning a car is (in some peoples minds) an indication of having your "stuff together"...

I'm pretty sure you need a car in LA to really get around. But yes, if you're living in a city and the person you're dating is in the same city, a car might not be an issue.

I live near DC, however, I couldn't date someone without a car, as there's not much in the way of public transportation between here and there and I wouldn't want to be doing 100% of the driving.

Guess it really depends on where you live...what kind of lifestyle. I've lived in Manhattan for three years...a car was a liability. Same thing in other cities worldwide...Paris, London, Hong Kong. I don't put much mileage on my car in D.C. because I live on Capitol Hill, and walk, take Metro or cabs. But I would think wheels essential in most of the world. Perhaps the question you don't want to hear first from someone you might date is, "So, what KIND of car do you drive?" laugh

Yes, I can see not needing a car if you only date/spend time with people who live in the city.

Hummm would it offend me no.

Do I think it is necessary for them to have one to date me. Well due to the fact where I live you pretty much need one my job I had was 35 minutes away no other transportation to get me there. Same with most places I would go. So yeah sorry they would need a car in my book or some type of transportation.

Sure if where I lived did not require a vehicle to get around things would be different but they are not.

And well since I have a car and always have had one the last one does not apply to me.bigsmile

I don't own a car. I ride a bike all summer, from the time the snow melts off in the spring until the snow stays in the fall. I think I'm going to learn how to cross-country ski this winter. Skis are less expensive than the axpenses associated with a car.
