At the time of Ulysses S. Grant's election to the presidency, white supremacists were conducting a reign of terror throughout the South. In outright defiance of the Republican-led federal government, Southern Democrats formed organizations that violently intimidated blacks and Republicans who tried to win political power. The most prominent of these, the Ku Klux Klan, was formed in Pulaski, Tennessee, in 1865. Originally founded as a social club for former Confederate soldiers, the Klan evolved into a terrorist organization. It would be responsible for thousands of deaths, and would help to weaken the political power of Southern blacks and Republicans. That's right, the Democrat party created the KKK to oppose Republicans. The first blacks elected to public office were elected immediately following the Civil War. They were all Republicans. The National Black Republican Association has some great resources, so that people can wake up. http://www.nbra.info/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.main&x=5482106 |

and you know that it was the Republican Party who passed the Civil Rights legislature in the 60's The Southern Democrats filibustered trying to defeat it. The Democrats termed LBJ as a "traitor" to the party for pushing Civil Rights legislation Oh yeah. Trust me, the NBRA has all that covered, if people are willing to read about it. They also cover "What Have Republicans Done For Blacks Lately?" and "A Myth: Republicans Today Are Racists". Not to mention the only former KKK member who is currently in the Senate is Senator Robert Byrd, who was a recruiter for the KKK for years. Well, the list goes on. The party of civil rights is and always has been the Republican Party. |

Nice piece of history.
![]() Common, everyday Repubs and Dems are ok, mostly. The politicians in DC can't be told apart any longer. I mean, O'bummer could be Bush's twin. In looks and actions/inaction's. |

In looks and actions/inaction's. That's not true. Republicans opposed Nationalized Healthcare and Cap and Trade. They are also our only firewall against all manner of global warming schemes. Republicans are also much stronger on national defense. There is a huge difference between the parties, anyone who can't see it isn't looking hard enough. Yeah, the Republicans have gone over to the tax and spend side, but that's because the Republican party is absolutely full of Rinos. Actual conservatives and libertarians are starting to filter into the party, you'll see a change in their policies soon. |

Listening to Hush Bimbo or Sean Insanity talk about climate change is identical to listening to Barbara Streisand talk about hurricanes. Fact is when it comes to immigration, neither side is going to do anything about therefore they are no different. When it comes to getting insurance companies in check neither side will do anything about it, therefore they are no different and this goes on. Sure some will talk tough about these issues, but at the end of the day the only difference between the two is the spelling, if die hard democrats and by-god republicans would pull their heads from their keesters they would see this to be the fact. |

Right out of the GOP spin playbook, these revisionists are lame to the core. The KKK was never a political party, it was a racist group of white men that started in the South after the Civil War when Republicans were almost unheard of in former Confederate states, if anything the GOP was propped up out of racisms.
The (mainstream) Democratic Party never endorsed the Klan nor claimed to have founded it. http://www.democrats.org/a/party/history.html "With the election of Harry Truman, Democrats began the fight to bring down the final barriers of race and gender. Truman integrated the military and oversaw the reconstruction of Europe by establishing the Marshall Plan and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Truman's leadership paved the way for civil rights leaders who followed” “In the 1960s, President John F. Kennedy challenged an optimistic nation to build on its great history. Kennedy proclaimed a New Frontier and dared Americans to put a man on the moon, created the Peace Corps, and negotiated a treaty banning atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons. Lyndon Johnson followed Kennedy's lead and worked to pass the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act. Kennedy and Johnson worked together to end the practice of segregation in many southern states. Following Kennedy's assassination, Johnson declared a War on Poverty and formed a series of Great Society programs, including the creation of Medicare — ensuring that older Americans would receive quality health care.” No matter HOW you want to spin history the GOP will always be known for it's racist base. |

You post is a gratuitous assertion, a lie and a bit of Democrat party revisionist history mixed together. Thanks for your time, but your post wasn't worth a velvet painting of a whale and a porpoise gettin' it on. |

In these diverse times, it would be tiring to truly debate racism and politics or assume to assign the label to any one party over the other. I think (emphasis on think) that racists are more likely to be republican then democrat. The reason I believe this is because they are more likely to want to keep the status quo which has kept mostly rich white males in power for so many years. Democrats seem to be more open to change that may affect the old boys club and the chain of power which has been in this country for so long and has recently seemed to overpower the needs and livelihoods of so many who are not well off or powerful. Those with slaves, for instance, were mostly those with money to do so,,those with money and power. Those would have most likely been the ones today voting republican so that they could keep their power and money and keep the gap between them and everyone else by limiting the resources others might have to 'catch up' so to speak.
This is not a condemnation of all republicans or a praise of all democrats, just a personal opinion that if you got 10 random racists in a room, most would probably be voting republican. |

" I think (emphasis on think) that racists are more likely to be republican then democrat." Oh, I see, you don't want to debate it, you just want to insult millions of Americans without looking at any evidence. If you think that, it's only because you have one eye and both ears closed. "Think" what you will. Oh please, don't bother educating yourself! No! Don't even think about that. Yeah, just keep calling millions of Americans racists, simply because they are more informed that you are. That way of thinking won't hold you back! Oh no! For the past 40 years, most blacks have voted Democrat and they have done such a bang up job. |

Millions of americans ARE racist, I dont know why you assume it has anything to do with how informed they are or are not. My way of thinking is honest and based in reality. If I am honest that there is a six foot wall in front of me , it just means I learn how to jump it,,that is not letting it hold me back. The reason , I believe , blacks vote democratic is because they are more likely to be impoverished and undereducated and discriminated against, and the democrats seem to find ways to at least acknowledge those things so they may be acted upon, instead of putting guilt trip on others who happen to bring it to light or aknowledge that it needs fixing. |

"the democrats seem to find ways to at least acknowledge those things" Acknowledge? They live off it! By race baiting and insulting the 40% of Americans who call themselves Conservatives, they farm blacks for their votes. "Here's your cheese and your welfare check...you know how to vote come this fall!" Racism exists, it is a problem with individuals. Racism through institutions is illegal and is prosecuted. Black people are strong enough to stand up for themselves, they don't need race baiters telling them that they are victims. You obviously don't have a good grasp on how economics work or what high taxes on businesses do to cities. Come up here to Toledo or Detroit and see the pot holes big enough to hide cars in and the failed businesses all around you. Is that good for black people? No businesses and crime through the roof? Is that what black people need to survive, because it's what high taxes give. It's absolutely ignorant to suggest that the Republicans are for "the rich white men" when Bill Gates, George Soros and Warren Buffett are all Democrats. You know who I'm for? I'm for anyone who will lower taxes on everyone, so that I can get a better job. When you raise taxes, companies have to cut jobs. When you raise taxes, you lower tax revenue, it's called the Laffer curve. I'm for increased opportunity, so that young black men and women can get good jobs and don't have to depend on the Government for their sustenance. I'm for a larger job market with vertical growth. I'm for a society where "Race" doesn't exist as a field on a job application. How can a society be color blind when one party keeps insisting that "race" is as important as your name? This young mother thought that her mortgage and bills would be paid for by the government, if only Obama were elected. For all I know, she's one of the unemployed homeless right now. How sad is her delusion that somehow white men have been cruelly punishing her and all that the world needed was a black president and suddenly all her problems would go away? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bg98BvqUvCc You want to point a finger at a group of racists? I'll point you to the largest one in the country. It's the black population who voted 95% for Obama. Obama had far less experience than McCain. Obama had no military record. If 95% of whites had voted for McCain, people would have seen it as a huge red flag. Obama's platform wasn't even filled out until after the election! Nobody who voted for Obama did so for any other reason than "hope" and "change"...those are buzz words, not campaign promises. |

People look at you and see a race, people who have prejudice about such race will discriminate and for this reason there has to be an accounting in jobs and education and any other number of areas to track such discrimination. You yourself would not be so sure that blacks who support obama must be racist if you didnt have some percentage telling you the racial make up of the voters. As a black person who supported Obama, I didnt do so out of racism, I saw a person who had a similar experience to me, just like I did with,,lets say , Bill Clinton. I did not see similarity between me and an old male who mainly seemed to want my vote based upon having been in the military. I had no reason to think and was given no reason to believe that he might relate to what it is like to be the average american or to address their needs. This could have alot to do with why MANY black people voted Obama and to assume otherwise could be construed racist itself. We had a chance to elect Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton in the past, yet did not, so maybe our motivation lied somewhere else than race , like lets say,, who we thought was the better candidate, not to mention his choice of vp which sent many of his supporters, black and white,, packing. |

Look at Clarence Thomas, Condoleezza Rice and Janice Rogers Brown, who were all poor blacks who pushed themselves to excel. None of them would have been accepted by Blacks, because why? I've heard it a million times "I'm not sure he/she is black" or "Uncle Tom" or "Aunt Jamima". White Democrats don't have to destroy black Republicans anymore, black Democrats will do it for them. ![]() |

You don't have the right to enter my house and take my money and neither does the government. Read the real history of Plymouth Rock, you'll see why socialism fails. |

This is far off topic, which I believe was about the correlation of race and the republican party. I am stating my beliefs that the republican platform is no more or less racist than the republican one. That blacks vote democratic, at this point in time, may have more to do with the republican candidates they have to choose from and how the issues those candidates address actually relate to the issues many blacks are facing in their daily lives. I voted Obama because he has a similar concern for others as I do and I dont believe anyone, black or white, succeeds without help from someone. As my elders used to say,, funny for someone to tell you to pull yourself up by your bootstraps when you arent permitted to own boots... No man is a God or a nation unto himself , we should all care about and do what we can, when given an opportunity , to aid our fellow man. That is a fundamental difference in what most republican candidates have run on compared to the democrats. |
