I've been doing this online dating thing for a long time. I've noticed every time I start seeing someone new, I start getting messages from lots of women online I've never spoken to before. In real life I could understand. Maybe I give off a different vibe or something that women cue into. But online, my profile is the same and so are my pics.

What the heck is going on?

It can't be my posts because I'm getting mail on other sites where I never post in the forums. I think it's funny. Sort of weird, but funny.

Paranoid much?

Actually, it does happen. My ex-husband used to make fake profiles on Myspace (back when I used to have an account there) and try to hit on me as various people to see if I would respond. ohwell

Firstly, that was several threads ago why are you still thinking about it? Can't leave the past behind?

Secondly, that was simply a social experiment. I wanted to see what would happen using the same words both online and in person.

And lastly, I met this new woman through a mutual friend. But, I still started getting emails from lots of women I'd never contacted.

Just thought it was strange and interesting.

I would bet that the same reason you find someone to hook up with, is the reason that the others chime in. There are seasons to desire to be together, surges in attempts at contact during holiday's, the approach of winter. You start dating someone early in the "togetherness" season, and it seems that the DATING caused the surge.
