yes number and type does bother me...

once dated a chic that had a mastiff and I'ld go over in my dress clothes after work and the damn drool kept my dry cleaning bill up.grumble grumble

Another had a cat that would crap outside of the litter box sometimes...and the house always smelled. Could not do that either.

I love pets but be clean about it and conscious of others when they come over....I have 2 dogs and they are well trained.

Knowing she had a mastiff, you had to know those dogs drool. That's not a training issue or the fault of the owner.
the dog should be put outside when she had company..JMHO

Outside? What happens when he spends the night? Should the dog have to stay out because he doesn't like it?
it's a MASTIFF, it should be outside all the time..

LMAO!! Had 4 English Mastiffs, a Great Dane, and a Whippet growing up and they were ALL inside. Even on camping trips in the tent or the pop-up camper. They were the quietest of the bunch.

If someone told me that I'd have to stick my dogs or other indoor animals outside, I'd be sticking them outside...

What you guys need to do is state upfront when dating someone that you expect their pets to go outside when you come to visit. That's what you do now, right? I would hope you don't walk into their house and demand they put their pets outside.

See, it's funny how THAT never happens. Guys beat around the bush, hem and haw about how much they love animals and all of that. Date for a while, and then come out with their viewpoints on how they think the animals should be dealt with.

I'm a bit pissed at the bf right now because the whole time we were dating before he went to boot camp he did that. Even discussing self-sufficient farming, I'm not going to only have livestock for food. There's always a few that will end up as pets.

He came back for a couple of days at Thanksgiving, and whole different attitude about how "there will be no wasteful animals being fed and not utilized or eaten".

I'm letting it float now since he's in Iraq, but there will be a reckoning, as I won't do that. That's a whole 180 degree turn around to me.

Yeah, I don't get that. If the animals are such a problem, bring that up right away, so the other person knows what they're dealing with.

I'd never even think of going to someone's house and demanding their pets be put outside the whole time.

I'd sure want to know where my love interest fell on the continuum of seeing animals as "tools/property/resources" to "fur babies". My Shepherd is hardly a spoiled pocketpooch, but he's not going to get put outside without good reason. If he greeted visitors with his teeth, or humped legs, or whatever, sure... or if the visitor had a phobia or an allergy. But not just because they had some notion they were superior to animals. I guess it's not a problem because I don't let those types in the house anyway! :D

what if you had a new puppy, and your partner was not training them very well?... if you were the owner of a dog/puppy and it was not trained well -- would you take offense if your partner made suggestions about improving the behavior of the dog/puppy??....

Out of courtesy, yes. The dog should not come before the partner.
I agree..
