The only cats I ever had a problem with were my mother's 4 Queens. Yep four of a kind, Queens. She refused to get any of them fixed, and they go into heat and pee and vomit all over the place. The only time the queens gave me the time of day was whenever they were in heat. The rest of the time, they either ran or hissed at me. It was because of this I learned more insight into human female behavior.laugh

Spaying/Neutering of any of the breeds makes a world of difference.

Well I tried, Lord did I try, and so did my dad, but my mother is stubborn and headstrong. No amount of reasoning, logic, or consequence sinks in. Now, I have 2 queens and both of them have been fixed since they were kittens. Jazz is 14 and she's a talker, and Amber is 10 and she's the demon cat, she likes knocking over things, and tearing up boxes, but other than that, she's an angel.

Now here is an interesting thought: Would you get involved with someone who has a normal amount of animals (1-3) if you also had 2-3 pets, knowing that if things got serious and you moved in together you would have the pet zoo as a home?

I wouldn't have a problem with a multi-animal household, but I'm not moving into the city for anyone. There'd have to be a house with land to move into before I'd consider going much further. And it's something that truly has to be discussed in detail, as to how things would go. I wouldn't date or go with a guy who wanted the dogs outside all day, or refused dogs in the bedroom. I can understand the bed issue, though mine have permission to get on the bed, but one who was rabid about that would be a problem. There'd also have to be some sort of discussion about what happens with the animals in case of breakup, or even a death. All of my animals go back to my parents, because I know that they'll be cared for for their life. It's also in my parents will that ALL of their animals come to me, to live out their lives, not be sold or dumped.

I'm a big fan of pre-nup type paperwork, even down to the animals.

Take 'em in to the low-cost spay/neuter and just do it. If she cares enough about the cats, she may be pissed at you but she keeps them. If she would truly dump them because they were spayed, she likely has other issues.

Usually it's men who live vicariously through the maleness of their animals, and they have a bigger hang-up over neutering then women.

The health benefits far outweigh my "pity for my kitty". Besides, once my cat started spraying, it was time for him to learn the hard way that going outside of them litter box is not allowed. I've never had a problem with him since. laugh

yes number and type does bother me...

once dated a chic that had a mastiff and I'ld go over in my dress clothes after work and the damn drool kept my dry cleaning bill up.grumble grumble

Another had a cat that would crap outside of the litter box sometimes...and the house always smelled. Could not do that either.

I love pets but be clean about it and conscious of others when they come over....I have 2 dogs and they are well trained.

Knowing she had a mastiff, you had to know those dogs drool. That's not a training issue or the fault of the owner.
the dog should be put outside when she had company..JMHO

Outside? What happens when he spends the night? Should the dog have to stay out because he doesn't like it?

Yeah... I feel it's kind of creepy when folks show a lot of affection for snakes and such. I used to know someone who loved to cuddle with her anaconda and took great pleasure in feeding it live mice.
If someone has more than two or three cats, to me it's a sign that they might be socially incapable or unwilling of dealing with the complexities of focusing on people.

Just cats? What about more than two or three other types of animals?

Out of courtesy, yes. The dog should not come before the partner.

Well, except for livestock, I'd maybe make the presumption that there could be a social deficit being it too many cats, dogs, snakes, rats, monkeys or whatever...

Of course this would only give me pause for thought. I only said "might", I didn't say it's a dead give away...

I don't know about anyone else, but if someone I was seeing told me I had to keep my pet outside all night, that wouldn't go over well. I can see keeping it out of the room, but outside all night? noway

That being said, I have two cats. They don't bother anyone. Though, if someone started telling me how to deal with them, that wouldn't be a good thing.

You do as you will, and cats stink anyway. When something bothers me I tell someone...if they dont like it to bad. Yes I put my animals out when I have company. I do as I will. I guess just one more reason why I'm not interested in you. Blah get off your high horse.

There is no reason a dog should be outside at all times.

What you guys need to do is state upfront when dating someone that you expect their pets to go outside when you come to visit. That's what you do now, right? I would hope you don't walk into their house and demand they put their pets outside.
