By a friggin skunk!

yea, i heard the fence rustling around and my dogs barking, i go outside and see a skunk running down the driveway.I notice my dog brandy has a big yellow stain on her chest, and as soon as i get about 10 feet of her....she smells like CRAP!

so, if i bathe her in tomato juice or sauce(or whatever it is) will it make it go away? and should i just shave off all the fur on her chest?

Take your pet to the vet for a prescription-strength bath/ you can try a tomatoe bath but it may not work!!

Vinegar might help....won't do any good to shave the poor thing...it's still on her skin.

Removing skunk odor with...:
* Tomato juice: plausible
* Beer (MGD): busted
* Douche: busted
* Hydrogen peroxide + baking soda + liquid dish soap: confirmed
* Commercial skunk remover: confirmed (not as good as custom mix above)

A mixture of soap, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda proved
to work best for actually eliminating the aroma of skunk musk.

If your pup has his or her shots, do it in tomatoe juice, this comes from experience from and old country boy!!! Otherwise go to the vet!!

Oddly enough, I just saw the MythBusters episode on
this subject yesterday. They said tomato juice merely
masks some of the scent, but does not neutralize it.

That mix helps but it's awfull for the dogs skin & coat

Call your vet... In Canada, there is a product called skunk'd
works wonders. Although you will still smell it on your dog 12 months from now when she gets wet.... Yea happens alot up heregrumble

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide
¼ cup baking soda
1 teaspoon of strong liquid soap such as dishwashing detergent.

Mix the ingredients in an open bucket or bowl. The mixture will fizz. Wet your dog and thoroughly massage the solution into the coat. Be sure to keep the mixture out of the dogs eyes, nose and mouth. If it is necessary to apply it to the dogs face, very carefully use a washcloth or a sponge. After applying the mixture to all parts of your dog that may have been sprayed, rinse the dog thoroughly.

just googled this seems ya better do it pretty quick and only wash the area he got sprayed first then go back you will need to take precautions as well for that stuff will spread everywhere here is the site to read

hope this helps..........

Maybe so, regarding the dog's skin & coat, but it's short term. Remember, the primary goal is to remove the odor, then over time, you can condition and restore the dog's coat.

i had to put this mixture to use ,so i have first hand knowledge of hw well it works..seems my boy found a wood kitty while we were down by the river while i never saw it ..i sure did smell it and when he cam back to me ..he was full of it..make sure you use warm water to wash it down too makes the dish soap work..good luckbigsmile
my little black lab never had any skin or coat trouble after the bath.. most of the reason they still smell is most people forget to wash the dogs head and snout..right where he got the most and when he get's wet again it reactivates the smell..

laugh laugh happened to my dog once but im sure the dog was chashing the skunk i heard a wrestling noise outside on this lovely summer night.. all windows open.. i get up to look out there and about fainted!! slammed the window.. ran to the other rooms and shut all the windows... wowie my house stunk.... hence the dog stunk so bad i left the side door to garage open so she could get in there.. had to leave that door open for 3 days.. then one of my kids could give her a bath outside.. it took 3 baths 3 days in a row lollaugh

We used a gallon of water, 1/2 quart of peroxide, 1/2 cup of baking soda and DAWN dish soap, the vet emphasized using DAWN as it dissolves the fat/grease better.

I have used this more than twice on my dog.
And it works wonderfully
