I AM OBSESSED. Everything. From the darker stuff like Tears For Fears and Siouxsie & The Banshees, to poppy bands like Wham! and Culture Club. Sonic Youth "Daydream Nation" is one of the best albums of the decade. Oh! and The Smiths - gotta love 'em!

I love it! My mom never had the tube on when I was a kid. So we listened to the radio all the time.

Love 'Voices Carry'.

A good 80s band that never got enough credit was Bad 4 Good. I laughed my arse off when I found out the lead singer was Danny Cooksey--he played the voice of all my favorite cartoon villians XD

I'm actually making an 80's song list. Any good suggestions of titles I may want to include? Thanks in advance! :)

80s music....

For you, Red_Lace....I would suggest The Bangles....Manic Monday, Walk Like An Egyptian, Hazy Shade Of Winter, The Eternal Flame....There are a few more. Even though they have a pop sound, their music goes through a range of different tempos and styles.

Also, Africa by Toto is a must have for any fan of 80s music. Just a nice song for relaxing.

A lot of good music from the 80s, but it is easy to forget just how much BAD music there was too. Loverboy and Survivor were very popular bands, but the vast majority of their music was just plain bad.

I used to have a huge music collection, so I could mention plenty of bands.

The Smiths were possibly one of the first true Emo bands to emerge with Morrissey's melodramatic and operatic vocals. Back then, Emo wasn't even a musical style. Rap was just emerging with artists like Run/DMC, The Fatboys, and LL Cool J. Heavy metal influenced much of the music of the 90s, with grunge being the first mainstream stylistic spin. Techno and Trance were evolving on the club scene.

Basically, the 80s were a period of major musical evolution. Guns N Roses seemed like the last hurrah for 80s music, but they helped to bridge the gap between the 80s and 90s by setting an example with their own musical evolution. But now Franz Ferdinand has been popular churning out songs reminiscent of Depeche Mode during the late 80s. The good music always survives, while bands like Oingo Boingo and Bananarama fade into obscurity.

Oingo Boingo is a great band. Their music definitely left an imprint on 80's pop culture, and their music is still popping up in movies. They have not faded into obscurity.

I liked Bananarama when I was a kid. laugh

I like music that sounds like John Parr's Man in Motion, which is one of my all-time favorites.

Thanks for your suggestions though, Lynx. Will try to listen to some of them and see if I'll like them enough to add. :)

It's okay, Torgo....I like a lot of the music in your list.

Funny how Wave of Mutilation got more respect 10 years after the fact then when it was first used in Christian Slater's "Pump Up The Volume". I also like "Monkey Gone To Heaven", though "Here Comes Your Man" was their pop hit.

And I know there are a lot of lesser bands that are slipping my mind at the moment. Major bands are easy.

The Stray Cats - Stray Cat Strut....Sexy And 17
.38 Special - Caught Up In You....Hang On Loosely....South Central Rain
Georgia Satellites - Keep Your Hands To Yourself
The Go-Gos - We Got The Beat
Herbie Hancock - Rocket
Technotronic - Pump Up The Jam
Newcleus - Jam On It
Queensryche - The Eyes Of A Stranger
General Public - Tenderness
Asia - Heat Of The Moment
Squeeze - Tempted....Black Coffee In Bed
Scandal - The Warrior
Twisted Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It
Cyndi Lauper - True Colors....Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Cameo - Word Up
New Edition - Cool It Now
Kool & The Gang - Celebration

....I think this could go on for a while....especially when I start remembering some obscure stuff.
