just stick to your guns, willn. you'll always be happy you did

This ^ is very wise advice.

You see, I shoot from the hip. More precisely, from between the hips.

If someone wanted to detach my gun and take off with it, I'd get mighty mad.

Aside from that, I would do nothing else about it. Maybe make fantasies how I'd sue them, and then lawyers would not discuss even the retainer amount with me.

Hm.

Ok, here goes. I do drink on occassion even after rehab, etc. To just simply put it "I don't drink" I'd respect a heck of a lot more than saying you've never drank & never will. Because then that would give me a challenge (especially if I've already had a few drinks myself) to break you down & get you to drink. I think it's more in how you say it than the fact you don't drink. Are you hanging in bars or nightclubs? Because I see no reason to hang out with friends in these places if I don't plan to drink.

Why when I tell people that I never drink alcohol before and never will that try to get me to drink? I don't understand why they keep trying.

I used to have that same problem. I stopped drinking at 22 and will never touch the stuff again. There was a point where I figured out that, if someone made it a priority to get me to drink, that was not someone I wanted to deal with in the first place.

Like they say, misery loves company. Apparently, misery includes self-inflicted brain damage, which is why they want others to drink as well. Not for me, sorry!

It's not just alcohol, it's anything. Cigarettes, pot, even stuff like food or energy drinks. People have a hard time with "No thanks, not interested".

I don't see why people like to drink anyway
Well never having done it makes it hard to understand. I myself feel no compulsion to pressure anyone to do anything. However any thing you enjoy you will feel compelled to provide insight to someone who has never enjoyed said thing so that perhaps they could enjoy it themselves, this is true of everything.

Because they want to be the one to "introduce" you to something new. If its not right for you Don;t let them persuade you.

Good friends will respect your decision, even if they don't understand it themselves. Never do anything that doesn't feel right for you. Plenty of nice cool drinks out there WITHOUT the alcohol to enjoy, even at a club. And you don't need to have alcohol to socialize if you are socializing with the right people :-)

This is an interesting point. It's as if people are chasing the non-drinker.

People communicate in only 5 ways. They demonstrate higher value, they demonstrate lower value, they indicate interest, they indicate disinterest and they test for compliance.

Offering someone a drink, or food or whatever is an attempt to demonstrate high value. But, by indicating disinterest, that value is lowered and they feel a need to bring their value up again. So, they push and test for compliance. Maybe the can MAKE you drink.

Maybe it's because of the way you make them feel...

I drink and I smoke, it's not an issue with me. What is though, people think because I have long hair that I get high. So when they ask if I want to or where to get something. I tell them your talking to the wrong person. This is when I usually get the wired look like, but you have long hair laugh Thats when I tell them I find it a wast of time. so by this point 99.999% end up having a loss for words, and look more stupid then when they first walked up to me. If someone is persistent. Ill proceed to tell them if I wanted to get high, or have that so call rush they so need to enjoy life. Ill take a trip to Magic Mountain, by this point is where I lose them and they end up walking awaylaugh
