Hi,
What's the longest stretch of working you've ever done without a day off? so far, I've gone 20 days and will probably hit 30 before this is done. I'm hiting approx 25 hours a week over-time.

The overtime is voluntary. In fact, they are even running contests to get people to work it. Two weeks ago, I won 150 bucks in Walmart gift cards!

I can say I am about here too. I am taking my first real vacation in YEARS the end of this month. I am going North for two weeks, maybe three depending on what kind of trouble I can get myself into!

Now the longest stretch on ONE job continuously with no days off from it at all? 6 1/2 months. Total job from hell.

No, I get time and half for all hours over 40 a week. The gift cards were a perk to try and get more people to work the OT.
Most of us hit 30+ bucks an hour for OT. The best part about winning gift cards is this: they don't get hit with taxes.

No one would work those kind of hours just for gift cards. That'd be insane for sure.

Humm I went 19 months with no work does that count?.....

Honestly for me 6 days in a row is about tops for me...bigsmile I just gave up the sixth day so now I'm at 5 days with one double shift and one day that I work 10-12 hours..whoa

I've done the 20 days in a row before. Makes it tough to get anything done outside of work, especially when you are working days and nights at a single job. I was getting about 25 hours a week in overtime too, and there was no one to pick up the slack. In the end, I had 1 day off during the month, and 2 days off in 6 weeks....and I was working in a 100+ degree kitchen, running my a$$ off with no meal breaks, set up....prep....create specials....do inventory....check in deliveries....cook lunches and dinners working between grill, saute, and garde mange as necessary....clean....sometimes I even had to take care of liquor deliveries and answer the phone....sometimes I had to sit down with sales reps, and I wasn't even management. I was working the hours one of my bosses refused to work.

How was I rewarded? I got canned, and the Sous Chef first got a $400/week raise (basically, firing me allowed the owner to fund the raise with part of my pay), then the Chef was fired so the Sous Chef could be promoted. Mr. Lazy who was working 40 hours/week (he was salary based on a 50 hour work week), and showing up 2 hours late, ended up being the last man standing in that kitchen, and I still have never been paid for the first 11 hour shift I worked there.

And when I say last man standing, I mean it. He is the only cook left in that kitchen from the first two months the restaurant was open. Everyone else was either fired or quit. Some even filed wage claim forms for pay they never received despite hours worked according to their time cards.

Am I bitter? Yup. Will I ever set foot in that restaurant as customer? Nope. If they called me up asking me to come back and work, would I do it? Hell no.

(I go through a 20lb. bag a week for my 5 cats.)

I work maybe 2 hours a day, once or twice a week.
My point is, all you working (hard) guys seems to
have as much or more, Mingle time than I do :-)

I don't want to work, I want to bang on a drum all day!

Well, actually there are things I would rather be doing!

Any of you ladies want to go to the submarine races later?

As an artist and musician I've gone several months "working" everyday - but then it's not 8hrs/day or 9-5, so not a real problem. Then when you get a break with no commitments, you hardly know what to do with your free time, and might even feel a little guilty just laying around! OK, not THAT guilty! laugh

When I've had straight jobs, any more than about 10-15 days in a row and I was feeling pretty trashed! Hopefully the massive overtime will make up for the hassle.

Good luck!
