its something psychologists came up with to sell medication and make money,,,,

and its when people feel sad to the degree that they are unable/unwilling to function,,,

apologies to those diagnosed with the illness, but I truly do feel the psychological field takes great advantage of peoples need to explain and fix things in order to turn a profit,,,,

Legion

Demons from the darkened hell
come inside my mind to dwell
tearing gnawing, trashing all
screaming out the master's call

from the deepest pits of doom
fragments of my mind consume
eating from the inside out
ringing ears their gruesome shout

Dementing, twisting mortal flesh
drawing sacrificial breath
far behind the eyes they creep
these haunting creatures of the deep

i agree with the medication part;
i refuse to take anything.
they just want to feed me sugar,
as if i need more.
:p
i believe if you can go about your daily routine then you're not depressed;
you're merely sad.
i dunno.
depressed people tend to not care for life.

Your mind could be your best friend or your worst enemy, people who suffered from it in the past are the only one who can accurately describe it.

Yes, this is correct.. Been there, done that.. At age 23 and pregnant with my 4th child I was hospitalized for 12 days with depression. I had 7 electroshock treatments and it took a long time before I felt "normal again". Dr. said it was a combination of things that happened in my past plus having 4 children in 5 yrs..Body didn't have time to recoup... I have only had 2 other times when I had to seek help and that was when I lost my dad and then my mom...Trauma in someones life seems to bring that on in some people..

I was depressed, but it went away when I stopped eating gluten. So for some people, they have depression because they eat bread.

Depression, as a rule of thumb, can be described as grief without the loss of what is grieved. Gee, I am starting to sound like Erich Fromme, who talks like this? Anyhow, I will assume that was understandable

i get depressed when i eat and read the ingredients on bread too

first ingredient water

>10% of my dv vitamins

enriched white flour 100% dv taken out

>10% dv put back in

still looking for barley bread in stores

you can replace some flour with oatmeal

or add some with no ill effects

or grind it up 3 inches at a time

in a blender for flour

100% of the corn is now GMO

Know what's interesting?

I met this Amish guy. (No, I'm not joking)

He was stating that depression can be created by any number of events.
Whether from traumatic experiences such as lose of a loved, or being abandoned by a loved one (both in regards to either significant others or relatives), or a life-altering situation. Car crash, almost dying, etc.

He then went on to state, that the original "arrival" of depression is actually closely related to our intake of food, beverages, and life style choice(s).

"If an individual finds themselves constantly stuck in this "rut" we call "depression", I find that all of my patients all have unhealthy life styles and eating habits. Junk foods, soda, alcohol, drugs, etc, etc.. I do the same thing with most of my friends and patients. I tell them to clean there system by using any of natural, harmless methods easily available to the average person; such as (insert medical plants cause **** if I remember them) or there are some over the counter medicines that clean your system."

Granted, it could, in the end, be BS. However, I suffered with depression for a majority of my life. Blame it on whatever you want, and yeah, the psychologists NEVER helped. I swear they get extra dough from hooking up drug companies with business by writing scripts for certain medications over and over again.

Anyway, after attending his conference and realizing two things:

1. He's an average AMISH guy who is only actually deemed a "doctor" in the Amish way of life.

2. He's not rich, not greedy, and barely even charges his "patients" anything outside of maybe dinner when he stops by to see how they are doing.

So, I gave it a try..

I mean, I didn't fetch herbs or nothing, I just bought some Niacin.

You know, the stuff that potheads take to clean their system?

Anyway, afterwards, I switched up my diet and habits like crazy.

I go for daily walks. Drink way more water than juice or soda. I even eat less fattening foods, and like Spider mentioned, I cut down on my gluten intake. (Didn't rid myself of it entirely.)

..and wa'lah. I almost feel like a new person. (Almost)

I may not have completely conquered my depression..
..but depression can no longer conquer me.

Outside of medical definitions and psychologists BS reports and accounts...

Since I can't actually define it in a way outside my own mind that makes sense.. you can try this:

Google: Images of Depressed People

When you see how others look when they are depressed; then picture yourself being like.. almost every waking moment.

Inability sleep, loss of desire to do things that once excited you, you become distant, anti-social, criticize the world and deem all 'hopeless' and 'pointless', and, ultimately, you just feel like nothing matters anymore.

This world is a big huge pile of contradictions and random events and the entire civilization, humans, animals, we are just a bi-product of a chain events that were never meant to occur. Our lives have no purpose, there's nothing waiting for you once you perish from this realm.

There's no God, there's no reincarnation, there's no second chances.

There is no point.

At least..
..that's how it was for me.

S & S, I can see that you've been there. I do think that better nutrition and physical activity are two big keys to starting to overcome depression. Congratulations on making the changes that you did and getting the results you did.
