Just thought I would ask everyone's opinion, do you as women feel that men are starting to help more with household chores, reason I ask is I have several married male friends and acquaintances, that to my knowledge perform household duties to a greater extent then any other time in American culture, for instance I would estimate that about 7 out of 10 of these men cook, perform childcare duties, clean, grocery shop, etc...

Now before you ladies chime in here let me be the 1st to admit, that woman are still performing the majority of household duties, however a recent poll estimates that men are now performing 68% in the household while women are still performing over 80%, even though women are still contributing more in the household then men, I believe there is hope that men will one day be 50/50 partners in relationships, as it should be,the gap may seem still wide between men and women, but progress is being made, however very slowly.

But lets go back just 20 yrs, when hardly any men helped out much in the household, go back even further, say the 60's and late 70's when I was growing up, with the exception of home repairs or maintaining the lawn, I don't recall a single male helping much in their home, of coarse a majority of women were still remaining home with their families.

I myself was taught things most males around my era were never taught, my mother took me at an very early age and taught me how to care and tend for myself, I can cook (rather well if I might say)clean, wash and iron clothes (not very good at folding however, I swear I think most men have some sort of mental block when it comes to folding a shirt, lol), etc....

I guess majority of men aren't the lazy couch potatoes society has deemed us to be, even though they certainly exist, and for the record being a couch potato is not gender based, known a few women that fit this image as well.

I feel as a society we all fall prey to media hype, also I would like to note a majority of men don't cheat, even though the percentage is higher then women cheating, of maybe women just don't get caught as often as men, women do make us men stupid at times.

Theres still alot of men who don't..they will do it when single but once a woman is living with him, he gets lazy and expects her to take over.

I do agree that alot more do help out and realistically, they have no choice in todays world.

My dad is 77 yrs old and always helped my mother. My grandmother had 4 boys and was very strict with them and taught them all how to clean.

I have only dated one man who cleaned without having to be asked.

Although I do expect the man to pull his weight, sometimes without being asked would be nice, however, I still do about 80%-which includes maintenance and repair. I am the first to admit when I'm wrong, and promptly apologise. I also consider it an insult for someone to agree if they don't, or back down if they're right.

Good way to be-self sufficient. I not only have OCD, but learned how to do a lot of things on my own, including things like plumbing, carpentry, electrical, etc., partly so I wouldn't have to depend on others. All things I incorporated into the homeschooling curriculum for my children several years back.

I don't even know where I got my level of "neat freak" from, lol, I'm worse than my mom was.

I fully believe each individual should be responsible for themselves. Until they learn that lesson, they will never see marriage as a 50/50 proposition. When each individual, when in a marriage, does their share, it has a wonderful chance at success. Too many men, however, have come to believe that they can "ride for free", because the woman will take care of them if they can't provide. Sadly some women are so insecure that they feel they have to provide for a man if he doesn't live up to the task. That's why we have so many unloved and uncared for children, whose father did not feel it was part of their responsiblity to care for their own children. Some moms also fit into this category also. Sad when adults are so irresponsible and show a lack of true love and feeling for each other and their offspring. They will reap what they sow eventually. What goes around comes around.

Pull my weight?!? Seriously?

I do everything I can. I cook, clean, pick up kids drop them off, go to their games, fix cars, build room on to the house, repair plumbing, patch roof, mow lawn, water lawn, get grocieries, pay the bills, and have a full time job. Somehow, I still find the time to just chill on the couch.

Why shouldn't a man have the world on his shoulders? I can cook as well as any woman, and better than some. I can fix damn near anything, with my own 2 hands.

This whole gender questioning has gone too far in recent times. Reality. We should ALWAYS be focused on working together. It is like a mutual support. I help the woman and she repays my good deeds with love, affection, appreciation, and respect. Which hapoens to be the 4 most important things a man needs from a woman.

it would be interesting to know who did this poll and whom they asked?

lol

nah,, I don't think men are generally pulling their weight, I think those who do are more the exception

generally speaking, for an alleged 'stronger' gender, seems like they should do more than just go to a JOB 8 hours a day for a paycheck,, if the woman is able to handle doing 18 hours a day between paid and unpaid work,,,,

many men feel that its not their job to do anything BUT make a check,, which is bogus if they have a family... parents jobs are endless,, and if one is truly STRONGER, seems they should be more than willing to take on more of the burdens and responsibilities,,

my two cents

Not sure on statistics on this one. As stated I think most men still don't pull their weight, most is done by the woman, even when she has a job too.
It just varies. My first partner, father of my kids, did help out an awful lot. The problem was, I always had to ask. It's as if men have a blind-spot when it comes to seeing things that need to be done.
In the end it got up my nose, felt as if I had three kids instead of two.

My last partner, well, to be honest he didn't really do jack to help out. Getting him to help out was an ordeal.

Maybe men and women in general have different views on what needs to be done?

This is my own personal opinion, it all comes down to communication, a lot of men need to be asked to help around the house possibly because their female partner does not know how to communicate, a fatal mistake women continue doing is talking to a man as if we are a child or as if we are one of their female friends. remember ladies we are men.

Talk too us and treat us like men and a lot more will be accomplished, you may not like hearing this, but it is the truth, have to appeal to the male ego in order have things run smoothly, women have been doing this for generations, but women today seem to have lost this, unlike in the past, oh also I think it depends if one spouse or partner works and the other stays at home, then the majority of household duties should be performed by the one that stays home.

Women today seem to want that entitlement of having their cake and eating it too, remember men and women communicate differently, if you won't make the effort learning to communicate with your partner, then why are you in a relationship in the first place, but society seems to be more about devaluing a males role, so I guess were just not worth the effort to most women, just a paycheck and a baby maker.

And it is still women in the majority that stay home to raise their families, which I understand it is their choice to do so, men should still help out even when the woman stays home, but I have noticed when the man is the major breadwinner women have a tendency to spoil them, you have to stop spoiling men, cause we'll expect it always, is just human nature, there are many good sources out there that teach us to communicate with one another.

Just curious how many of you have tried couples therapy, sometimes an outside opinion can help.
