i rest my case...

Have you ever gone on a date because you liked her as a person.

and every date you've been on is because you like them as a person?

on were you wanting something else?

dinner, sex, just a night out?

don't try to be to righteous here, there are millions of reasons on why people date, and a guys reasons are usually limited around 2...

please get it right...the correct quote is "the love of money is the root of all evil" This dramatically changes your question

This is a good point. So, what one does for money when one truly needs money, is not evil. It's what one does for money out of greed, that is evil. Since most prostitutes have always been on the poor side, I guess my question is answered: No.

Also, Tealbreeze made the point that prostitution was probably not the first profession for women..this also would change things. But historically, hasn't it been the men through the world who have held most of the money while women tended always to be more on the poor side? This is a continuation of the problem that women's work is mostly not valued, women are used as slaves basically and not compensated with money or anything else of value. Now prostitution is probably one of the only jobs where women definitely get paid much more than men (for a variety of reasons). Is this leverage of women over men the reason why these women are considered vulgar? In a way it's women beating men at their own game (sort of).

If you think about it, the male gigolo is romanticized and even glamorized.

I wonder what the pay of Chip n Dales male strip dancer is compared to that of a regular strip joint that only employes women dancers?

Estelle? Do you have the stats on that?

hummmm, maybe I should've said the Rockettes too.....

They say prostitution is the oldest profession in the world. To this day prostitution is considered a vulgar profession.

Some say this and others don't..Some consider it and yet if we look down through history some of the most powerful women were prostitutes in some way. Fact not fiction.

Although some radical feminists do consider it to be empowering to women (many disagree). Perhaps this is not the point. Could it be that the reason for these perceptions are not really about the job itself, but just the simple fact that a prostitute earns MONEY at all (at one time it was the only paid job for a woman)?

I must be the exception to the rule, since I am not a feminist that I know of. In some cultures just like any career if said person is good at what they do and climb the career ladder they do make great money at it. Sadly most don't and it ends up badly for them and all involved.

It seems possible that since todays working women, although not selling sex, are expected to work for cash (pimped out), and so there is something vulgar in this expectation itself (explained). Thoughts?

I so disagree with this statement.. Since if we choose to eat, have a roof over our heads, etc.. man or woman we have to work. I have to ask then are we the person pimping ourselves out??? I have no problem with whatever a person decides to do to survive in this world. It is not my job to judge them nor fix them. It is up to them to find their own path.

Since we are spinning and twisting this topic I have to add another one.

What about the men or women that serial date to get taken to great places they would or could not afford otherwise? Isn't that a type of prostitution???

You are right, there are more reason to date than sex. So what are the two that you refer to?

just read an article on mate selection in a peer reviewed psych journal that back this up by the way..

more men seem to feel this way than women
at least in the study I read

two kinds of personalities
the kind that is looking for a short term partner for fun
or kind looking for a long term relationship

I read and it and thought " well duuuuuuuuuuuuh" but ahem now it's backed by scientific proof laugh

For clarification,

Is Estelle equating women who work,
and have career goals, with prostitutes?

As opposed to the sit at home, be a hole in
the mattress, and collect benefits women?

surprised

easy ..his manner may have uh..for lack of better term
'rubbed you wrong way' and I expect ya may need to take it with grain of salt but let me just say this

when a man meets a woman for a date, forks out money for dinner, for a movie or a show, for drinks, gets off his butt and dances with you, listens to your conversation and opens door for you

in short puts in time, effort and expense

is it not with the hope that affection may occur at some point?

if the woman postpones this or give him that peck on cheek or a kiss goodnight..he must decide if it is worth it to pursue

it's not about the woman, it's about the sex... if i just want sex, prostitutes are the easiest/best/fastest option with no BS involved... if i want a relationship, then i'll deal with the BS involved...

Really? If I go on a date it IS because I'm interested and would think the feeling is mutual. People that ask me out already know where I stand.

Where does this crap come from?

They kbow me from somewhere.. THEREFORE they know me somewhat. i would turn down a total stranger

depends on if prostitution means strictly paying for sex or not...

escorts are paid friends...

thats been my whole point all along... if i want to date a woman, it's because i would like to at least try to be more than friends

i don't ask women out because i want sex, that seems like a lie and for reasons mentioned above...

and some things might be considered sex acts even though it does not fall under the act of intercourse

you know stuff like paying someone to spank you while you call them mommy or letting them lick your toes..

On prostitution....not my thing by far... But if someone does it I would hope they pay taxes (like I have to) and hopefully they are tested for stds. If not the John (yes they get punished too) might bring something back to the wife/gf who never asked for it
