Maybe I am wrong about the birds and bees but last I check.ed..sex makes babies (unless contraception is used and that isn't 100%)

Maybe the stork brings babies since people having sex doesn't? But if it's legal THEN babies happen and the men are forced into the military

Legal prostitution, means better living standards for women, means less poor women, means less women in bad marriages, means more tax money, means less poverty for children, means more children will be able to afford college, means not enough of them willing or need to serve the military, means mandatory military service for men.

Are you making the argument that women are only qualified to be prostitutes?

I look at this issue in a very pragmatic fashion. These are skills and services being sold for a fee. We all work, and we all get paid.

I worked for a time as a bouncer in a large Canadian city and came into contact with 'working girls' on a regular basis. I came to know their stories, and how they got into the 'business'.

For SOME women, the issue is power over men. Like some exotic dancers, they control their sexuality on a very overt level. They want men to beg for their companionship. Usually as a result of bad romantic relationships, these women wanted some payback and found that making men pay for them raised their self esteem.

For SOME women, the adult service industry is a means to an end. I know one woman who worked as a dancer for 10 years. She owns two homes free and clear and bought a bankrupt company for pennies on the dollar that grosses over $1 mil a year. She had a plan, banked her money, and executed her plan. Higher end 'escorts' usually map out a plan, a timeline, and have goals.

For SOME women addiction to drugs and alcohol drove them to sex work as they couldn't hold a normal job. Some have psych issues with molestation and sexual abuse. The sex trade is all they know. Usually the street level sex trade worker has fallen into this situation.

Finally you have human trafficking. Women for whom the sex trade is not a voluntary choice. They have been sold into it and work as indentured servants. Usually the Asian or Eastern European 'happy ending' girl at body rubs.

I've seen both ends of the spectrum. High end prostitutes who have happy lives, have 'nice guys' for dates, make a lot of cash, and eventually retire to the suburbs. I've also seen drug addled, well past their prime women who have been chewed up by the street and the lifestyle. Hustling for $10 and $20 services from guys who are just too horny to say no. It's heartbreaking to see someone so damaged and so broken that an overdose seems like a blessing in disguise for them.

There will always be people in need of companionship, and there will always be those willing to provide it for a price. The difference in how it all plays out for people is how we treat each other in the process. You can either respect them for the choices they make and the skills they provide, or you can look down your nose at them and treat them with disdain. Your call...

People volunteer for military service for reasons other than poverty.

most of this is a stretch,,

most prostitutes are still poor, there are plenty of legal jobs that don't bring people out of poverty, its a huge assumption that this profession will especially since there are STILL so many women that give it away free

I'm not sure what connection there is between legal prostitution and the quality of ones marriage?

There WOULD be more taxable funds leading to more tax money,, on this we agree

I'm not sure how having tax money decreases child poverty? or college affordability?

and though I do see a connection between affording college and not needing to enlist,, since I don't see the connection between prostitution and college affordability,, I am still at a loss for how legal prostitution figures into either tuition fees or military enlistment

A college education means that people can become military officers.

the failed prohibiton of alcohol should teach us all a lesson in legalization of many things
illegal activities create a network of all sorts of black market activities....

with legalization comes quality control, safety, and elimination of criminal element and the opportunity to regulate product or services...

when something is deemed illegal all that can be done is incarcerate the offender and wait for them to be released and re-offend...

abortion.......doctors in the tenement practicing with coat hangers...
booze..........plenty of bathtub gin made by amatuers...
drugs...........overdoses by the dozens...
prostitution...venereal disease, exploitation of humans and other ills upon society

people will continue to do what they so choose, whether legal or not...attempting to legislate through the moral values of one segment of our society is folly...

legalization - good..............prohibition - bad...

that's true as well dido

but many also use military to PAY for college they cant otherwise afford,,, or for a promise at a future for those who don't have many other options,

those recruiters can be very sly and seek out those in need to exploit their needs

they got my husband right out of high school, a young man terrified of ships, and convinced him he could have a career to take care of his family, that he could have a paid for education to further his career, with a pronise that he would never have to set foot on a boat,,,(in the navy) because they had bases where he could work instead

there are many who know what they are getting into and seek the military,, but many other desperate(often poor) who don't really know and are easy prey when recruiters come across them

if more of them saw a real option to afford their own education they may not feel this was an only option,,,

Actually, it's a myth that people enlist in the military to escape poverty. Some do, but the poor are underrepresented in the military. Certainly some do enlist for that reason, but most do not. It's also a myth that the poor are targeted for recruitment. This myth goes back to the Vietnam era when the middle class and the wealthy were able to avoid the draft, whereas the poor did not have the means to get out of it.

The insinuation that people enlist in the military just because they are poor is an insult to people who enlist in the military.

The same is true of those who insinuate that those who enlist because they are uneducated. That's simply not true. Military personnel have a higher percentage of college degrees (all ranks) than the population at large.

I really don't think prostitution is paying for sex. You can get sex without having to pay a woman. So why do men seek out prostitutes? Because you pay them to leave.

You pay them so you don't have to listen to them talk, hear about their day, worries, and all the other minutia that comes with being in a relationship.

It's also guaranteed. You pay them, have sex, and they're out the door. You bring some random person home from the bar, and she may want to stay the night and have breakfast or chat in the morning.

Besides, if you really want to beat the illegality of prostitution, then all you have to do is film the encounter. Then she's not a prostitute, but an actress in a porn. This makes it perfectly legal to pay a woman for sex.

So really, isn't the concept of having this be illegal just kind of childish?

Well then plenty of well educated middle class to upper class women get into prostitution to be fair. Do I need to point this out? Who cares really?

The vast majority of people who enter into prostitution are poor and same for the military. They do it because it's better than working at McDonalds for minimum wage.

This is absolutely NOT true about the military. The vast majority of those who enlist are middle class and well educated. Learn the truth and quit making up "facts" to support a narrative.
