 .....I know I say eh a lot....but never aboot....dare ya to call me and find out..lol  But what would we talk aboot? The things you do aboot the hoose? That I know of, I'm the only one, who pronounces it close to "hoose" . Actually, "houoose". <<< U.S. citizen by birth right.... Maybe.

 Oh Sweetheart, may I tell the story about our first phone call? Please, please, please. OH GAWD this is something we will laugh about til the day we die... I have a very pronounced drawl,we had moved to the phone stage.. So I figure I will make the call and he can get my number from cell would save time instead of sending my number back..Thinking in the back of my mind how my drawl puts some people a bit off... Well Pancho answers the phone and I hear this deep sexy canadian voice say hello... I am thinking yum... I say hey Pancho... this is Rains.. dead silence.. I mean dead silence to the point I am thinking dang did I drop the call... Then I hear this timid voice Hallo???? I am like Yes this is Rains... He is definitely not what I thought after about 2 minutes of strained conversation I can tell this man wants off the phone. I am thinking WTH.. he wanted me to call and what is his problem. I honestly didn't think we were going to go any farther. Hesitantly I hear " boy you don't sound like I thought you would".. I am like whatever.. the dude doesnt' like drawls okay fine what ever... That call ended rather quickly... Then a few days later we try this again... As we are chatting Mr. Pancho blurts out Oh lordy I am so glad you dont' sound like you did the first time... He goes onto to tell me "you had me scared the first time around.. It took me a moment the Man thought I was a drag queen in the beginning.I laughed so hard I was crying I had had a bad cold... My voice was really deep and well gravelly... I was breathing heavily and to make matters even worse where I had to make the call was outside on one spot of my deck the only cell coverage.So on top of being sick as a dog, I was freezing the damn rooster from a neighbor was crowing his head off.. That is why I use my Landline at home. So yeah... we laugh about this today... my poor guy thought he had been duped by a southern drag queen... Nope just little ole me with a horrible chest cold... Voices do mean alot to me I love to hear the inflections of someone... The richness their laughter, the sighs, all of it is important to me. I looooooove storys like this! |

After online chatting and emailing for sometime, you become interested enough to make/receive the call I always wonder why people take online dating so seriously. Turning it into some kind of right of passage deserving all these rituals they place so much meaning in which ultimately only highlight those that have no real desire to date. "The call?" If I spend time online chatting and emailing for some time I want to meet. If after a lot of online chatting and emailing they then said something like "Okay, you are now deserving of 'the call,'" or "okay, we can upgrade to the next step in impersonal communication and you can call me," I would just drop them like lava and wonder what was wrong with me to not have spotted this type of woman before this. Other than that, I would only use a phone call to set up or verify a meeting/date. I would refuse to sit on the phone and chat as though I were a teenage girl. Maybe they were yelling all day. Maybe they work in a call center and sound hoarse. Maybe they are so nervous they are really tense because all they are hearing is a strange voice while they stare at the wall. Maybe they don't talk nearly as much as they do online or on the phone knowing their voice is annoying. I don't know. Online and phone communication means nothing. Everything is meant to set up a meeting. What happens if you didn't like it? If I met them and I didn't like their voice it would depend on if I focused more on what I did like about them or if their voice ultimately repulsed me. If it repulsed me, then I would go with the repulsion and stay away from them, not date them again. |

I've had a chance to shoot the breeze with Rains a time or two. She'd even mentioned, before-hand, that she had a Louisiana drawl. I'd like to say I was prepared for it. Nope. I wasn't.  Despite having had a very good friend from LA, it was pretty surprising (pleasantly so) to expect a 'tamed' drawl from someone now livin' in the almost Great White North to have all the inflections and 'r' sounds that end in 'uh' sounds - think Brothuh, Mothuh, etc. - in my ear again. It's cool to get surprises.  Thank you Scribs.. I have had the pleasure to talking and meeting a few people out here and the first thing they all say is where are you from... You are one of the funny ones that actually understands my sayings and Goof of course. adds to them.. Pink... My friend if you sound anything like Pancho when he gets excited about something it isn't...Yes it is aye... about becomes abooot... and the verbage is hilarious... So if you are like that you do have the accent[color]  Sweetie, please show all our friends how well you have taken on the Swedish/Canadian language. Say "yah, yewr soo gewd". Please,please,please.   |

Besides and more important than just the tone or the sound of the voice of the other party, would be whether you can even make out what the heck they are saying!
I had no problems talking to some, but I have had difficulty understanding what some others were really saying.... due to their accent, drawl, pronunciation. We finally had to revert back to texting. |
