Topic: Why don't men smile

I've seen a few profile photos here and many of the men do not smile. Instead they either look directly into the camera and just stare. Sometimes they look intimidating. I just think if men were to smile in their profile photos they'd be more approachable.

This is just my opinion and it's something I've noticed on other dating sites, but men just don't seem to smile in photos. I was just wondering why.

Because they have bad teeth.

Lol, so most of the men here have bad teeth?

I don't need a big cheesy grin, a closed lip smile will do. It's just more inviting.

Smiling isn't allowed when getting mug shots taken.

But seriously, if this was a real life party or social situation and you wanted to meet someone, wouldn't you smile? Even a little?

92% of the time, I have a silly grin on.
When I'm trying to do a selfie shot, I tend to lose the grin while I'm trying to get the stoopid camera to work.ohwell

I love that my husband looks very intimidating, even at parties. Hahaha. He smiles only for me. :)

Yes, I think in a party or social situation it is important to at least have a friendly smile on your face. Its a ice breaker.

Who wants to talk to a guy at a party with a frown on their face... not me.

In regular atmosphere, I don't have a smile on my face, just my normal mug.

At times,I have seen folks walking around by themselves with a big smile on their face and while there may be a very good reason for it, they still look a little nuts to me.

It just seems like something men are doing more than women and I wondered why.

I hate taking selfies, for this reason.

Maybe they are miserable being on their own, or need that special someone to say 'say cheese' to them....???

Why don't men smile

In the movies who gets laid more often?
Jim Carrey?
Or Daniel Craig?
The comic side kick or the all business action hero?

Men want to look like they are serious, and attractive.
Not just a fun time meant to be entertaining.
They would rather look like the bad *** than the class clown, in general.
The lone wolf, rather than the goofball.
"Real" men are the stoic cowboy, not the stooge.
Men want to be the guy you want to bang, not the one you feel comfortable turning into your bff or new brother.

Not to mention it's easier to make the face look more angular if you don't smile, it can reduce wrinkles and crows feet around the eyes so you look younger, all of which are more attractive.

You know how women started making duck faces?
It makes their cheek bones stick out, which is seen as attractive.
It also pulls in fat cheeks and can push out the chin making fat chicks seem skinnier rather than "fluffy."
One other thing I sometimes see a lot of is the camera angle from above, or the hand under the chin. This hides double chins and turkey necks, and stretches the skin.

I just think if men were to smile in their profile photos they'd be more approachable.

You can always email them and ask them to take a smiley picture.
This isn't like a grocery store where you see it on the shelf and it comes as is or you have to leave it.

Other than that, I find this absolutely hysterical.
"Approachable?"
This isn't the club.
It takes the exact same thing to approach anyone on here.

All you have to do is click on "contact user" or whatever and send an email. There are no additional consequences.

It's not like "oh, he looks mean, he might hit me if I say the wrong thing, I'll stay away from him."

Everyone is as approachable as any other on here.
That's pretty much the point of online dating.

If you just don't find men that don't smile as attractive, that's one thing.
But "approachable?"
Seriously, you are separated by a computer, the internet, and god knows how many miles between you, but they're not "approachable?"

I was only using the term "approachable" as a way of expressing interest in someone's profile based on there photo.

That's completely different. Men like Daniel Craig exude confidence, which is sexy. And he does have pictures with faint smiles.

I think what the OP means is that a lot of men on dating sites look glum, dejected. That's totally different from a strong, confident man not smiling.

I have noticed the same thing, and often wondered why as well. Personally I think there's a lot of men out there that aren't ready for a relationship at all. With emphasis on 'at all'. But they feel lonely, need something or someone to fill a void in their lives of sorrow.

Most men on dating sites that do look good, as in confident and/or smiling --> the ones without that lost look in their eyes, often are already spoken for or they're players.

I'm sort of smiling....but producing a smile is somewhat hard. Cuz our facial muscles are usually stuck in scowl mode....smile2

You don't need to smile, cos you got that aura of confidence, which says enough. And it worked, I mean, you got Silka, haha

I've even seen MANY pictures of men looking seriously PO, so much so that they scared the crap out of me. Now that's not good advertising when looking for a woman, is it?
If you look at the average pictures of women, they put a lot of work and thought into it. Don't think a woman'd take a profile picture when she's angry or in a shite mood

I especially looooooooove the ones taken in a dirty public toilet, with dirty shirt or hat on and a scowl on their face...

or the ones where they lay on their couch with tv remote and a pack of smokes next to them just staring at camera and you can see how filthy their house is around themnoway

Speaking for myself,i feel uncomfortable smiling for a camera. Like it or not, i see many pictures of people smiling at the camera, but it's not a real smile, it's the mouth only, and i would rather see eyes sparkling with that smile
