Understand that anger affects the angry
more than anyone else.

Don't let someone change you.

That is what I tell myself when those feelings
overcome me...do I want to give someone that power?
Rarely..

With a Close minded person I don't waste my time.
I am friendly and when asked an opinion I give it..

Other than that I tend to shy away from them

It is tough when the people you work with make your blood boil.

I am really with Sophie that anger effects the angry person more than the person who made them angry.

A closed minded person may actually be not worth your wasted breath but is getting them to agree with whatever you are angry about really part of your job? They are co-workers not friends or family you have to mentor or like. Or convert.

Making a co-work livid is a common tool used in unfairly competeing in the job situation. And at least temporarliy very effective. It is obviously dangerouse int he work place because if you make some on angry enough they wil hurt you; even if it is passive aggressive.

If an employee lets criticism, taking others credit, lazyness of a co-worker, and reacting with spite or anger (you can pretty much pick the sin) instead of focusing on doing a really great job themself and shineing in the work place consistently; that will be noticed/appreciated more by the boss than just outliving the "a--hole". Then they are distracted more by dealing with the angry employee than getting rid of the truely bad one.

It doesn't hurt to step back and ask why is this co-worker making me so angry. Are they in fear of looseing their job, resent you being brought in to star in a position they spent years earning (perhaps your future) or because you are cheaper labor, distracted, a poor performer, overwhelmed, downtrodden, just a poor team player, poorly trained, or being made the scape goat for busting your chops because if another person did it they would look bad/be illegal. It helps make it feel less personal and may give you a clue how to correct the situation.

Some negative work situations are not "fixable". If that is the case you may want to seek a way to upgrade your job skills and get to a better job.

And until you can find a job to discharge the anger in a positive way. Exercising, doing something creative, adding in a few more small rewards for tolerateing this tough situation, and maybe improveing or enjoying the areas of your life that are not anger produceing will help you.

Over the years I have had some really "bad " jobs but knowing those jobs, that stable work history got me a nice life after work hours, supported my family, made my retirement possible, even allows me to say so there you are still stuck and I moved on is pretty satisfying. It is kind of how you frame things how angry they will make you.

It is how I survived. Believe me with a hair trigger temper when I was younger especially I know your pain. Good luck.

It's mostly about mechanisms, for me.

When someone at work is tremendously difficult to deal with for me, I investigate the mechanisms of the workplace, to find out how much we have to interact, and in what way. If they are my immediate supervisor, things will be very nasty, and I will need extra helpings of antacid every day to cope. If they are a coworker who I don't need to care about, then I can just ignore them.

I've had a few experiences, where we were just coworkers, but their attitude about various things and people were very grating for me. I had the choice to argue with them (never a good idea, since the business exists for other reasons), ignore them, or converse with them and learn why they were such "jerks" (obviously, anyone who isn't on the same page each of us is about everything, they are jerks).

Several times, by allowing them to say their piece, and not arguing the other side at all, I was able to learn some very interesting things, which served to open my own mind up more. I didn't join their side, but I did appreciate more of what motivated them to be as difficult as they were about their side of it.

A bit admittedly P.A. but poetic way to handle someone who is full of "it".

Or ground psyllium sprinkled on top to help them get over their stopped up issues

Thank you, for such comment, it really helps me- what i did this day now, i just take deep breath and try to calm myself.

And i just listen to them while their angry, but if I can't handle the situation anymore, i would say, please leave- lets talk later, i don't want to say something that we might regret.

Very true, angry people are trying to drag you into their own private hell,so I don't take the bait and give them power over me.My thing is I like to act even more happy and upbeat around them, it really cheeses them off even more.

This sounds very wise.

And when you have a tough work situation realize everyone probably has to to take better care of themself by getting more rest, eating well, and avoiding alcohol or drugs so your nerves are strong because it is a drain on your system.

It doesn't hurt to document work problems with a journal or inner office memos to human resources. I am not talking inner office "gossip" memos but often you can "document" things in work logs.

Especially if someone is interrupting your productivity by being overly nasty or hyper critical.
