Obama to spend a month in French Polynesia..alone?

Former US president Barack Obama landed on the tourist island Tahiti without his family for a month-long stay at a luxury resort, according to local TV channel Tahiti Nui TV.

Barack Obama arrived in French Polynesia where he will spend a month at a luxury resort frequented by Hollywood stars, according to local TV channel Tahiti Nui TV.

The former US president landed on the tourist island Tahiti without his family before going to Marlon Brando's privately owned retreat Tetiaroa atoll, which the Oscar-winning actor bought in the 1960s.

Obama has checked into the eco-friendly Brando resort, whose villas boast their own plunge pools and cost between 2,000 euros ($2,150) and 12,300 euros per night.

No political meetings have been announced during Obama's stay and it is not clear what he plans to do during the sojourn or whether his family will join him.

But the former leader of the free world and his wife Michelle have signed a bumper book deal with Penguin Random House estimated to be worth as much as $60 million.

French Polynesia, a French territory in the South Pacific, is made of more than 100 islands and is best known for the French nuclear tests carried out there up to the mid-1990s.

spock sounds fishey.

Obama to spend a month in Polynesia..alone?

Ooooh...juicy rumors and celebrity gossip crap.

Maybe he's getting the surgery done? The ol' addadictomy? Since Michelle is missing hers?

Maybe Michelle will join him later? She's too busy...um...writing her book or whatever she does now that she can't spend taxpayer money unlimitedly?

Maybe he just came from the airport and a secret meeting with Bill Clinton and Valerie Jarrett?

Maybe he was really born in Tahiti and he came to bury it?

Brando, island, maybe that's the real Island of Dr. Moreau? And he's meeting Charlie Sheen for a transfusion of magic tiger blood?

Maybe since Hillary didn't win the election, Obama had to "repay" her (Clinton style) for stepping aside in '08 in "other" ways. Now he needs a vacation to unwind from the trauma of that experience.

The article mentions nuclear tests. Maybe he's attempting to irradiate himself to become Obamazilla, where he'll attack NYC until they elect Hillary mayor, or terrorize republican towns.

I don't see what the big deal is. As long as they taxpayers aren't paying for his vacation then so be it. Who cares?

Polynesia is a hotbed for Gays and transsexuals.

French Polynesia, a French territory in the South Pacific, is made of more than 100 islands and is best known for the French nuclear tests carried out there up to the mid-1990s.

Since the islands were colonized, mahu has broadened to include cross-dressers, drag queens, female impersonators, and transsexuals. The term has taken on a bit of a derogatory and negative connotation in recent years, which is why the local Tahitians prefer the term "rae rae".

"Rae rae" is the term that is most commonly used now to describe transvestites. The rae rae in the islands are pretty well respected in fact. They tend to have jobs in the service industry and you’ll definitely come across them in the hotels, restaurants, in dance performances, and on the airlines.

The Lonely Planet guide on Tahiti and French Polynesia offers readers a pretty good description of gay friendly Tahiti and her Islands:

“There are no networks or associations for gays in French Polynesia but French Laws prevail and there is no legal discrimination against homosexual activity. Homophobia in French Polynesia is uncommon. You will meet a lot of very camp mahu working in restaurants and hotels…The Scorpio disco behind the Vaima Centre in Papeete is popular centre for popa'a (western) gays as well as rae rae, but it’s also frequented by heterosexuals.”
