I would consider myself pretty frugal. I'm not a cheapskate. I'm not afraid to spend money when need be but I don't buy useless things. If you are a frugal person what are some things you do to save ?

Frugality is a quality I admire in people. Things to buy are generally fall into 3 categories: Things I absolutely need like food, shelter, and basic clthing; things I need like education; and things I want like going to a nice spa every week.

I always categorize things to spend money on first, Make a budget, and put some money aside for saving. Always saving is the part I always stick to. If I find out I can't save money in a month I plan to work more hours that month.

I dont mind spending money on food and other necessities but i wont spend much on expensive dresses and handbags because i can sew dresses and make my own handmade bags.

I can say I am more frugal now then when I was younger ...
I to buy the necessity...and get food I like ... and if we may go out I eat what I don't normally get here for the house ... I love second hand stores ... it to me is like a auction open all yr ... I find things for the house, my family, friends... and even some clothes with the tags still on them ... and some things are pretty unique... from stores I don't go in laughand sometimes I don't find a thing ... all depends ... but have to start saving more now ... and be more frugal ... hope that works out laugh but their is really nothing I need ...

I would like to paint a few rms but can not do that now ... so I am saving there ... but will say I am better then I once was ... when I only shopped high $ stores ... I grew out of that ...got wiser ...
thank goodness...

I do not necessarily do things for the purpose of saving, I just have tended to not be impressed by money or trends or name brands. I would say I am practical in that I spend money based upon the use of what I'm buying.

For instance, I probably will never have 'fancy' things. My couch is something I bought so it could be sat on, and frequently, and that can get dirty and be cleaned cheaply, or replaced cheaply if necessary.

My dishes, I bought to be used, repeatedly and often, and easily replaced if broken.

I have tried a few times to 'own' a cell phone and lose interest in the first two days. The land line serves my purposes just fine.

My car is one that has high ratings for longevity, but is not fancy. It is clean and works to get me from A to B.

...etc...etc..

I'd say so. Waste not want not is my slogan.. if you don't NEED it, ya don't need it.

Frugal doesn't necessarily mean cheap.
I tend to be practical and decisive.

If you buy a diamond ring for $10 you probably have a diamond ring not worth a dime.

Frugal doesn't even apply to only money.
One can also be frugal with their commitments, dedication and emotions.

As for spending habits.
I buy things that I need to last a long time at a higher quality than the things that I use up quickly. To me, it is frugal in the long run.

I will spend money for those things I like but not without searching to find the best deal...

I don't believe in paying $200 plus for a purse or billfold just will not happen... I've never been into name brand items that cost up and beyond..

I do believe in re-using items by sprucing them up or repainting them..

But when one lives on one income you learn what you will spend the money on and will not..

When it comes to grocery's now I will not buy the off brands just cause they are cheaper..noway If they are better that is one thing but I'm not frugal when it comes to food and taste...whoa

Myself when I buy furniture ect it is to last not just for the style~~~But I have no issues buying second hand when it still looks brand new for half the cost either...bigsmile To me that is not frugal just being smart with your money....bigsmile
