If all these single people are so very happy, why are there so many dating sites?

I must have looked at a dozen before choosing Mingle.

Well,
Single divorced people are happy...No more arguing about stupid things...

This is not just a dating site...It is a social site... A place to meet with virtual friends and speak your mind...Kinda like a bar without the barflies!!!

I'm a single divorced woman... Even though the one's in the past didn't work out and not so good stuff happened, I still prefer to be in a relationship than to be single.

I'm single now because I choose not to be in one that's not healthy and isn't thriving. That doesn't serve a purpose for either person. Over all I'm happy, but happy as a person, not happy because I'm single!

Yes, I can tell from my first day that this site is more than a typical dating site. So far I think it’s lovely, btw.

offtopic Nice to meet you Rob! waving

But aren’t most here to broaden the search for a partner of some sort?

People may be happier single. I don’t know. I’ve spent most of my life looking at the other side of that fence. I see everyone I know getting divorced and still manage to hope my big romance will turn out differently.

No one goes into a marriage preparing for divorce. So we must all believe we will be different. Noone getting married seems to believe they would be happier single.

Well said Miss P!
Be happy in yourself no matter what...
There are those that only feel completion as a couple and some who don't.

I liked being married...
But, just never took.

Pisces - Over all I'm happy, but happy as a person, not happy because I'm single

A bullseye statement for many single women! A lovely phrase! flowerforyou

Although I'm fine on my own, can be happy, have plenty of things to do, I can't say I am happier as a single.
If you're happier as a single than you were in a relationship you weren't in the right relationship, which is probably why you aren't in it anymore.
I feel a relationship should add to your life, be the icing on the cake, not take away from your life and happiness. If it does that, then it ain't the right relationship.
I for one need a lot of personal freedom and could not live with a man who couldn't give me that. But I'd also not get involved with someone like that cos he either wouldn't resonate with me or I'd find out soon enough and it would drive me up the wall.

But the added joy of sharing, co-creating, doing things together, cooking and dining together, going to bed and waking up with him next to me, heck would I love to have that again!

To be honest, even though I am happy and can be on my own really well -too well at times even-, I am happier when in a relationship.

 I believe either is fine. To each his/her own. The OP's reference to the Psychologist's talk was about was breaking the stigma that some give to people who choose and like being single.

There's noting wrong with being single and loving it. There's nothing wrong with not liking being single, preferring to be in a relationship.

What's wrong I believe is looking down on others and making them feel something is wrong with whichever they choose.

Rob- No more arguing about stupid things...

Brings to mind the scene in You’ve Got Mail...

Joe Fox: And the only thing we'd fight about would be which video to rent on a Saturday night.

Kathleen Kelly: Well, who fights about that?

Joe Fox: Well, some people. Not us.

Kathleen Kelly: We would never.

Hey, you changed your pic!

Yep, I just traveled too much as a systems analyst. That will always cause a lot of pointless arguments....

Have dinner dates every so often. Just not ready to start with anyone... Still feeling for a lady friend from Singapore. Once she's out of my thoughts, maybe. Happy for now as a single man!

Hmmm... I don't necessarily agree that being single makes you happy.... I know lots of married couples or people in relationships that are quite happy...
Happiness is a state of mind... of course your environment could play a part in your happiness a relationship can play a part in your happiness... but happiness comes from within... single or not...

there appears to be scientific proof that divorce can be good for you in many ways . . .

If you are an abused spouse, then a divorce would definitely be good for you.

. . . many married people do not become happier or healthier psychologically than they were previously.

If one enters marriage for the wrong reason or marries the wrong person, then that is likely.

In fact, the psychologist maintains that more and more people are opting for the single life, and are thriving.

Is this trend happening in all nations, or just certain ones?

One study found that single people utilized their social networks more, and actually provided and received help from their friends much more than their married counterparts.

Perhaps married people receive help from spouses and in-laws.

Singles are more fit.
It’s not only the minds of single people that tend to be stronger. There’s other scientific research to show that single people also tend to be more physically fit. In the study of nearly 4,500 people, those who were single had slightly lower body mass indexes and were, on average, 5 pounds lighter than married people.

Is that sample of 4,500 people a large enough sample to draw correct conclusions from it? What is the age range of the sample?

Stronger minds.
Another strong benefit to the single life is the availability of alone time, which has proven to be important for increasing our overall sense of freedom as well as our creativity and levels of intimacy.

How does one increase levels of intimacy when one is alone?

So, my single friends, it may be time to quit whining about being "all alone" and go out there and enjoy your single life with other singles like yourselves.

Cheers!

If people have the gift of singleness, then good for them.
However, not every person has that gift.
Indeed, in the USA, plenty of single people live with their boyfriends/girlfriends.
While the former are legally single, they function as if they are married.

happy people are happier

problem may be people are seeking partners to 'make' them happy, because they are not happy already

people that are already 'happy' single are not looking for it outside of themself and will be just as 'happy' with someone else ,, most likely.
