ABC News VideosMan accused of ditching women on expensive dates

Paul Gonzalez, of California, has been accused by at least six women of inviting them to dinner after meeting online, ordering an expensive meal and then leaving.

Women say they were victims of 'dine-and-dash' by someone they met online

Good Morning AmericaMay 8, 2018

If you’re looking online for love or even just a dinner partner in the Los Angeles area, be careful or you might unwittingly get stuck with the bill.

Two women at different restaurants in Pasadena were allegedly victims of “dine-and-dash” dating by someone they met online, according to news reports.

Pasadena police told ABC News “there is an ongoing investigation into [the] activities” of a man named Paul Guadalupe Gonzales, 45, of Pasadena.

ABC News has tried repeatedly to contact Gonzales by phone but has so far been unable to reach him.

One woman was allegedly stuck with a $130 restaurant bill after, she said, her date “went all out,” ordering steak and shrimp on their recent date, KCBS reported Friday.

The man allegedly then claimed he needed to get a phone charger from his car and never returned, the woman told KCBS.

Another alleged victim told "Inside Edition" in a story published May 4 that she experienced a similar incident with a man she knew as “Mike” and whom she met online.

But in this case the restaurant manager called him out.

The woman, identified only as Carol in the story, said that when she arrived at the restaurant, her date was already eating and continued to order more, "Inside Edition" reported.

After he excused himself to go to the restroom, the manager allegedly recognized him from news reports, "Inside Edition" reported.

“I said, 'You're the notorious dine-and-dash dater,' and he kind of looked perplexed. And I said, 'That's you, right?' He said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Well, I’m not going to serve you,'" the manager, Justin Leyvas, said, according to the report.

The restaurant in Pasadena paid for Carol’s dinner, according to "Inside Edition."

Pasadena police would not comment about possible charges involving these recent alleged incidents but did confirm to ABC News that there is on ongoing investigation into Gonzales' activities.

"We are looking at him for other incidents of this nature," police said. “We believe there are other victims who are afraid to come forward and we want them to please contact Pasadena police at 626-744-4522."

any thoughts??

I've had a woman or two ask for a "meet and greet" at a restaurant then look at me like a deer caught in the headlights when the check showed up.
meh.

Hmmm the way it seems many women have done this to men and so guess now they feel the need for paybacks..

Sad for sure...whoa whoa

Anytime I have ever met anyone I make sure to tell them it is dutch right off the bat...

But in this situation since they run before the check comes that would suck for anyone to get stuck with the bill..

Dark, I saw that on the news this morning too. Thank goodness, he wasn't in Ga :joy: It's a crappy thing to do. I just wonder what the women ordered and if they had discussed how the check would be split.

The guy wasn't bad looking. I bet his true dine and dash numbers are very high. I had always wondered if that's illegal. I wonder if any of the women had ever only paid for what they ordered when they realized he was gone.

With a so strange man, get separate checks when first ordering.

That takes care of the cheapskate, jiggalou.

This guy has been doing this for awhile and he also does it with haircuts. He skips out on paying the bill for his haircuts? he walks towards the cash register like he is going to pay, then bolts out the door, like a kid stealing a candy bar.

How friggin cheap can you be

ha, I recognize a few of the posters from the late DH....

On Topic,

Dine and dash, that has been going on since the days of sex and city was a hit show.

But its usually women that does that does the dine and dash, its unusual to hear of a man to do that.

Well the woman in this report ignored one of the red flags, she arrives to a restaurant and her date is eating and about to order more?

come on.

well its true, you would think she would have picked up on it
any guy that arrives early and is already eating is either no gentleman or he is up to something.

I know if I arrived at a restaurant to meet someone that is she already eating I would have turned around and walked out and made sure the door hit my arse on the way out.
