I have heard that only 50% of people in US have land lines. I still have mine but I have thought about getting rid of it !!

Everything is getting higher. I disconnected my cable so I could go back at 1/2 what I was paying. I also changed insurance companies to save about $25 a month on car ins. I've appealed property tax. I'm doing my best to keep my bills from going up. Straight talk better not increase their price. I think I've already seen a cheaper plan with another company.

just stopped a few days ago to my Verizon store to update my phone. I am terrible with them and they take a beating.

So brought my bill ( which I never look at I just pay on line) and I was shocked at the " additional charges" I am paying.

delivery tax?
state tax
line tax ?
service tax ?

and a few more. all monthly charges.

they really nail you with the unseen stuff.

Taxes keep increasing on mostly everything, yet this country thinks they can support illegals.

I can't recall my last landline.

It was either in the late 80s
or early 90s.

Property tax here is going through the roof. It's sad that after working all of your life, owning a decent home, becomes a hardship. I have to pay several thousand $$ by Dec 1.
I call it punishment for being a productive member of society.

I did away with mine when I got off dial-up.

Pay as you go phones seem to be the cheapest. That is, if X number of minutes a month serves the purpose. I live in an area where not all phones work well. Mine also works good because I use another zip code that isn't mine. Back when I bought it, it worked fine for two days. Then, nothing. I had a discussion with one Radio Shack rep that knew cell tower locations, and knew that seeing the tower was all important for good service. Had I used my zip code, that put my service on one, by topography, was a lousy location. I can see two towers from my house, but those weren't my home assigned towers.

(Actually, on one spot on my property, the time will change on my phone. I live near a line where the time zones change.)

Knowing the physics of telecommunications doesn't help you if the salesman you're talking to, doesn't. They don't know it, so why should you? The trick is finding one that will listen. (That's a hard job in itself)

Verizon is the worst. They have been told that their phones work in my area. They don't. I'm not sure what they teach their sales reps, most won't listen to me. So I won't deal with them.

Have you paid attention to where the cell towers are around your home? Bet you haven't. I was always fascinated by big radio towers, even when I was a kid. I knew about that, ionosphere skip. All the goofy things about radio wave transmission.

Back during the era of the USSR, and the cold war, The soviets used a radar system based on radio waves. They learned to read them, by broadcasting a constant click that skipped off the ionosphere. (Called the soviet woodpecker) That would bounce all over the world. The disturbance of the clicks, would tell them if a missile from our country was launched at them.

If you were around at that time, you'd hear it on your old tv set. It was really annoying. I listened to shortwave, that was a given at that time. Sometimes, it was strong, other times, no. It just depended on what the ionosphere was doing at the time.

Go phones seem to be the cheapest. I've had mine for about 12 years, and I'm still paying $33.10 for two months service, back when I started it. (300 minutes that will roll over into the next two months if I don't use them all. And I don't)

Talk, isn't cheap on cell phones. If you're gabby, you pay for it.

Bet you've paid for your property twice in taxes. I have.

The joys of home ownership.

A lot of nice homes have gone on the market since we received our tax assements. Senior citizens here don't get much of a tax break. They only qualify for a tax break if they make under $10,000 a year.

I think we are in another housing bubble. It might be taxes that cause foreclosures this time. I have property assessed $100,000 more than I paid in 2007. If heard people say that taxes are 1/2 their mortgage.

I just recently thought about getting a landline.
Decided I'd be better off just throwing $75 out the window, less headaches.

I have an android phone.
I never use it.
I have a great internet service and have a free app on the phone that allows me to make calls at home. Nobody can call me unless I call them first.

I could go up the street and put talk text and internet on it for about $40 per month but I barely use it.
People contact me thru Skype or email.

The last landline I had was 13 years ago.
The last time I bought minutes for my cell was around 2 years ago.
If I found that I needed a phone (found a gf that wanted me to have one) I can go out and put service on it without too much trouble.
Problem is, I am not in the habit of carrying it around.

if the politicians would stop giving HUGE tax cuts to all of their millionaire campaign donors who dont really need them, maybe they would quit having to raise taxes on all of the common people.

Thank Trump. It will get worse before it gets better.

Comcast customers can get cell service with unlimited talk and text for three dollars a month.

The real joy of home ownership, is that it doesn't matter who's president, who's in Congress, or what happens to the economy.

If the entire country goes into the toilet tomorrow, you'll never be homeless.

Here in Jersey, property taxes are out of control. People are leaving the state because of them. I have a modest house here on a 1/4 acre. I pay $11K a year in property tax and I have friends in other counties who pay up to $20K!!

I have another house in N.C newer, bigger, more land and same services as up here. And I only $850.OO per year!

I will be joining the mass pilgrimage out of here in a few years and moving to N.C. .. that's for sure.

Why so high here... police and teacher salaries and pensions...all union... killing us.

People here voted in a splost tax to keep property tax down. It didn't work. So now we are paying 8% sales tax and huge property tax.

The deficit would be wiped out overnight, the budget would be balanced, and the country would actually have surplus if the churches were taxed on their property holdings alone.
