I don't know if this belongs here. A few years back, I asked my Dad if he could write down some information about what he knows about the family because he is the oldest living member. I wanted a journal.

I think it's good to keep a journal.

I am sure if you ask around older family members you will find someone has done a family tree Cat. I am lucky enough to have an Aunty that has spent years researching our ancestors and she knows a lot.

My father did write a lot for me about his earlier life and family. I wished he had written more about later in life, about work and meeting my Mom. But I did learn a lot that I never knew and I keep those pages in a binder.

Hi Blondey. My father did die last year, and he has a younger brother who is not doing well. I do have cousins from my Mothers side of the family and they are involved in the research of family. I've learned more. Thank you for asking.

I came across cute books, one for a mother the other for a dad. It had specific topics under which they could write down their stories on these topics. It was about their past, my childhood, family etc etc.
I gave both my parents one. Then when my dad passed away in 2016 I asked his wife about it and she said he never wrote in it as he felt it was nonsense I was heartbroken and also shocked as doing such a thing used to be typically my dad but I guess he got too bitter towards the end. So there are many things I cannot ask anymore. My mother knows a lot but not everything of course, and even though she's only 77 I notice her memory isn't that good anymore. I did learn new things about my dad and his family last year when I found my grandniece on Facebook. She's a medium and into the spiritual, like me. And she told me her dad -my dad's uncle- was a very well-known healer and people came from afar to see him. His parents -so my dad's grandparents- were healers too. When I found out about that, something inside me clicked into place. As if I'd finally found my place in the family. I guess I somehow always felt a bit like the odd one out. I'd never heard about these healers from my dad, and if his uncle was so well-known I assume he must've known. I really treasure this little piece of knowledge about my family! |

I have a cousin who likes to trace the family history and that is great. He is from my mother's side and they were a large family. My father was from a small family. I was lucky to learn things from my father because I asked him.
