The last draft call was on December 7, 1972,
and the authority to induct expired on June 30, 1973.

Just sayin'...

Hasn't been a draft in 48 years.

The United States military has been all-volunteer since 1973.

Who Must Register with Selective Service

Almost all men age 18-25 who are U.S. citizens or are immigrants living in the U.S. are required to register with Selective Service. Citizens must register within 30 days of turning 18. Immigrants must register within 30 days of arriving in the U.S.

Military life is very different than civillian life.
Some people HATE it, some people LOVE it and some people just endure it.
As with any 'job' the military has its good and bad.
As with any 'job', it is what you make of it.

Signing that contract means you agree to put your life on the line for your country.
It means you agree to follow the commands of your superior officers in the military war machine.
Its about fighting for your country as your country needs.
You will learn many things but the bottom line is fighting.

If you go into the military with delusions about what you will be doing or why you will need to do what you must do, think twice.
People who make the wrong decisions will always be hostile to the idea and fill your head with all the horror stories.
People who understand their place in the military will tell you it really isn't that bad, most of the time.

Your maturity will directly effect your experience.
