no not in a hurry, (dont have the bank roll to be in a hurry) the blue I've had for close to 17 years, and the red I've had for about 5. it was originally going to be a parts car. but it turned out to be a rare canadian landaugh and also it is the last year for the folded rear window, and round headlights.
so they are good side by side examples of the second gen body. so I decided to keep them both as drivers.
and right now, I need to track down a dohner car for my way gun, because it's heater box caught fire and spread to the whole dash before I got it put out.
my wagon is my work truck. so I need to get it back up ASAP.

That's pretty bad.

Being your utlility wagon, you can probably clean it out and make it driveable without restoring much at first, then...slowly restore the pretty stuff.

I once sat on a 5 gallon pail and steered with a set of vice grips on the steering shaft for a few weeks.
I've driven cars without dash, carpeting and inner door panels.

You can probably find some gauges at a junk yard that can work.
Replace what you need for the car to drive and worry about the pretty later, that way you get your workhorse back.

not really in this case tom,
most of the wiring also got cooked.
I'll have to wait till I've gutted the burnt remnants.
to see the full extent, I dont think it reached as far as the fuse box and the main harness coming from the engine bay. but I wont be hooking the battery back up any time soon.
lucky for me, we have a large mopar specialty yard here in oregon. and it's currently closed because of snow. but they have a few M bodys in inventory as project cars. so I should be able to buy one for parts.
the seats and console dont matter, they were already just bolt in salvage from other vehicles.. right now I'm using my converted grand voyager.. so it is buying me the time I need for now.

thanks tom for these links.. but they have a common theme

they jump the second gen monte carlo. for the most part they go from 70-72 and then 78 after ) and a couple only cater to the 78+ G body.
while some do have a small hand full of sheet metal oruniversal accessory parts. the model specific parts have to be scavanged from wrecking yards or scabbed back together.

I miss the old cars, my favorites were a 1969 Buick GS 400, still have the engine, rear bumper and emblems, it was the only car I had that went 0 to 100mph in half the time it went from 100mph to 0.
My other favorite was a 1969 Imperial Lebaron with a 440 engine, top speed of approximately 170 mph, in 1977 the highway patrol car I went by couldn't catch me, he got the guy I was racing.

I had a 72 impala with a 454, that could whip you around sitting still. and make you feel like you were being tossed into the back seat when you mashed the peddal. BIG BLOCKS R FUN.

There is a 65 Impala sitting on a place where I'm building some cattle fence. It was left by previous land owner. Straight body but has rust holes in hood and deck lid. Some fiberglass would probably fix that. If I didn't have too many projects...

I built a 1966 327 engine for a friend in 1984, when done it had 370hp, he sold the 1966 Impala when he moved to California 20yrs ago, he kept the engine and is now looking for something to put it in.

The 65 has 327 emblems but it's kinda funny that the 7 is broken off of both of them as if on purpose

I've seen alot of the 327 emblems missing the 7, its probably because they didn't have enough metal in the casting design.

LOL, as the pictures above shows, I can relate to too many projects.
the hood and deck lid can be replaced, you can get
almost perfect reproduction parts for them through several suppliers.

How in the heck does a heater box catch fire?????

best I can tell..the fan must have shorted out and ignited some degraded insolation foam or something else combustible.I still have to dig into it to see if theres anything else that could have caused it. but it definately started inside the heater box. since it is completely gone,

looks like I'll have the choice between brown or brown for the replacement parts
but one is a government model aspen sedan, with a police issue 318 4 BBl pursuit package. and the other is a 318 wagon. the wagon has a lot of parts I may need down the line, but the sedan has more of the parts I need right now.
I'm going up to the yard this weekend. to look around maybe I can find other options in cars that are being parted out. the 2 I'm looking at are project cars that are in good enough condition that could be restored and saved.

I'm thinking about getting my 1948 GMC back I sold 15yrs ago, the engine in it is the first engine I rebuilt back in January 1979. The engine still ran great, did not have to add oil between oil changes.

hey Don, that would be cool, if you know where it is, and they took good care of it.
I lost track of my old duster . it was turned into a quarter mile car by the person wh bought it from me.
last I seen it, it was doing nastalgia class in woodburn. but that was a few years back.
