I did like their bikes , but I had a Honda to ride when much younger ... but no loyalty to the Honda brand .... unless it was a two stroke generator ...for camping !!!

Samurai are really good, but it's a notch. For street thy ain't all that. I like them because they're little 4x4 go anywhere but still street legal. Cool for local driving but not for long haul and slow on freeway unless you hop it

Back in my prime, when I was working, I had a 76 Vega with a 350 4 speed I restored. Sadly I didn't get as much as I could have because I didn't lay a fresh coat of paint on it...but it was mechanically strong.

During the same relative time, a coworker's 'project car' was a Corvair which he converted to fron engine and slapped a Cadillac 500 engine into.
He had to rework the suspension and modify the body.

He told me it handled like a drunken squirrel but it would lift the front end without effort. It would never pass state inspection and that prevented him from selling it till he found a collector, then he made serious profit off it.

In college, as a dorm project car, we made a 4WD Pinto wagon. (we did a lot of parties at river banks and caves). LOL, we painted it a gaudy Hot Pink! When I left my dorm, I sold my share of the title for $450 after asking for $500. I dropped because I was a short timer and wanted to clear myself. Plus, at the time I already had a 67 Chevelle (loved that car).

This is a good topic but it's kinda funny that no one seems to be doing anything interesting with cars. Hoped it would be more than saying I used to have a car , or I rode in a car , or I know where you can see a car. And the originator of topic hasn't chimed in since.

I was a professional wrench for over 30 years but I am now disabled.
Even tho my passion remains, my body can't comply.
Plus, being disabled, I an on fixed income and I live in an apartment duplex with no garage.
I still have most of my tools but its so bad, I can't even change my own oil anymore.
Hell, I put air in my tire the other day and could barely stand back up!

BUT, I have a lifetime of knowledge and experience and I've owned more than 5 muscle cars, rebuilt a few project cars and associated with gear heads and wrenches since I was an early teen.

My first project car was when I was 15 years old. It was a 1967 Road Runner with a 383 cowl injection, four on the floor.

Some people like NASCar or OWR but I was always into modified stock. I did a lot of street racing in my early twenties.
Nearly every friend I had owned a project car or had something tore apart in their garage.
I knew every junkyard owner by first name and always got really good deals. Once got a 400 big block for $50. Slapped it in and it ran like a graped ape!
My current truck was priced at $3100 and after I tore into it and started telling the small lot dealer everything that was wrong with it I got it for $1500. Plus, I made him get it fixed and a fresh inspection. I've had that truck for going on 12 years now and barely needed to fix anything. Bump the key and it starts. It is getting long in the tooth tho. 2 years and I can put antique plates on it. Has over 250,000 miles on it.

I pay cash for my cars. I don't want to pay off a dead horse. The only car I bought on credit was the oldfamily car but that was a dealer demo with only 2800 miles on it and when I gave it to my X, it had 300,000+. I had it for decades.

In high school I was in the Lancers Club. Lancers was a car club. It was sponsored thru the school clubs and restricted to school rules (during school hours on school premises). We sponsored quite a few river parties and keggers on our own.
We also did car shows and main street creeps.

Recently I was surprised to find myself in a main street creep in a small local town near my current residence. It still happens!

I used to uncap my headers on my Chevelle and do main street creeps. That throaty motor roar would echo off the buildings, Glorious!

Well you are the MAN on this topic so far. Very sorry to hear of your condition. I have a friend who is similar, has the knowledge but just can't do it. I never had anything that was to awfully fast. Have a 79 z28 with a large journal 327 that has some go but more highway. The auto trans went out and it's been sitting. Someone decided to help themselves to the radiator out of it, it was a four row dang it. Now it's passed over for different projects. Just working on a 1977 gmc k25 and a Suzuki samurai right now

When I finished rebuilding my 383 in my Road Runner I decided to take it out and see what it could do.
The fact it had absolutely no brakes at all didn't matter to my 16 year old self.

Late one summer Wednesday night, actually early Thursday morning (3am), I had my buddy follow me in his 69 Goat.
I pegged my speedometer and my buddy said at 140 mph he pegged out and I was leaving him behind. I figure I was doing about 160 mph with no brakes. I used my gears to slow down. Luckily the highway was recently paved and the night was clear and bright.

I had a well-tuned stock 71 Challenger with a 4 speed and a 340 4bbl that could lift the front wheels. I had to buy traction bars so I didn't burn the rubber off my L60s.
Sadly, I rolled it one rainy night and ended up having to total it. But, I did make a killing selling parts to my Lancer Club buddies.

Had a 68 Cougar when I was in the Seabees, also had a 78 Thunderbird at the same time. The T-bird was my mellow car and the Cat was for the rush.
Sold both of those for more than I had in em...to other Seabees.

Had a 68 C-20 Utility dually that I converted to a flatbed with a winch. That straight 6, three on the tree (which I converted to a Hurst floor shifter) just wouln't die. 12 years later I sold that to a shop co-worker. You just bump the key and it started.

I had an old junker F-100 I drove till it dropped, 7 years and NEVER changed the oil. Just added used truck 15w40 oil when it needed it. That started with a screwdriver but all ya hadda do is bump it and it would fire right up. It looked like hell but it ran good. I put decals on it like fleet truck unit numbers, on each end and both sides. I had an 8 then beside that I used two 1s to make an arrow pointing up and I called it my 8UP truck.
I spray bombed it and purposely ran the paint on each door. I would tell people who asked how it runs, "Just look at the Door, it RUNS Good!" The defrosters sucked so I fabbed a duct out of an old brakeline tube, then duct taped it to the vent holes, hell, those defrosters worked better than new and they were fun to talk about. LOL, one work buddy was following me and I hit a bump and he said a chunk of my truck fell off, hit the pavement and bounded into the ditch. LOL, That truck was Phun!

Paying cash for cars then selling them at a profit allowed me to have many cars during my life. Some were fast, some were phun but they all did what I bought them to do. Plus, I've had people just 'give' me cars they couldn't get to pass inspection. Since I had an inspection license, not a problem for me.
One guy (a neighbor) got mad as hell because the Lesabre he gave me, which he couldn't get to start and run, I fixed with a battery cable and a lil creative wiring. Got it for FREE and sold it back to him for $1200, inspected. Bwahahaha!

I always wanted to build a custom 4WD Cadillac Hearse with a Coffin Trailer which is actually a kegger fridge and cold sump for cases of beer.
Put a converter in the Hearse and cut the sides so they lift up revealing massive loudspeakers. The bed would be just that, a bed with a minibar and mirrors on the roof.

Then, Take THAT to some river parties! Oh Yeah!

Many times I hit the road without brakes because I couldn't stand not trying it before I got it legal, not 160 though ! Party hearse would be sweet !

and then theres my grand voyager that I turned into a camper. TV, DVD, cook stove. even turned the center bench side ways so it can be used as a bed.

When I did my Vega I was in the process of cleaning up the wheel wells for flat black spraybomb, then a nice undercoat after I had it painted but I sold it before I got into it too deep.

Thinking back on my customizing days I wish Line-X was available back then.

I've stripped a bunch of frames and bodies to preserve them. Even went as far as using lead based primers. That Line-X product would have been really useful. I was primarily in the snow belt and underbody/frame corrosion was always the biggest starting task. Back then we coated them with tar and flat black primer but that Line-X I think would have been so much better.

I'm adding custom work to both the red and the blue monte's.
the blue is further along, I tucked the bumpers and added metal fillers to the rear quarter, replacing the larger rubber panels. I'm not much of a mechanic.. just good enough for minor repairs(parts replacement). I painted the blue with a custom paint color, 3 parts medium metalic blue, 1 part champion white.. the result was a metalflake matt finish.

I also added the louvers to the opera windows and deleted the chrome plastic trim. eventually I'll have the frame and under side powder blasted, and then rhino lined( it's like line-X)
the second gens are still orphans, too old to find NOS parts easily, and too new to find much in the after market for them.
it also dont help that they were popular dirt track and demolition derby cars either. theres not a lot of survivor parts left in wrecking yards any more.
the buckets and console are out of a 77 cutlass supreme.

the red I'm slowly changing the interior to black and I am going to have to modify the rear plastic sale panels that goes between the rear package tray and the head liner, as the sun has completely rotted them away in several places. and no one reproduces them.
I've also added a sunken console in the center of the bench since it and the back seat needs re upholstered any way. the black vinyl roof, is actually dupli colors truck bed liner, that I used a 3/4" paint roller to apply. it's thick enough to cover and hide pock marks from surface rust that was under the original vinyl. and still looks like a vinyl top until you get up close to it and notice there are no sewn seams.
they are not perfect, but they are fun driver projects. and it is fun to listen to younger people trying to figure out what they are. when I drive to local events. or take them on a club run.
