Speaking of travel....

I took a little road trip to this place over the w'end. A friend of mine has a holiday home up here, so with the mercury heading toward the 40's again, i decided to skip Melbourne for the night in favour of some chillaxing by the lake with a coupla cold ones and check out the water ski show and fireworks. Went for a quick spin on the lake in the morning after breakfast before heading back to Melbz in time for getting my giddy-up on at the country races....

Lake Mulwala...which is a 3-4 hour trip from Melbourne and located on the New South Wales border.

An Ostrich's Eye Is Bigger That It's Brain.

*blink blink*

Someone say chicken??

Actually there is a distant cousin of the Ostrich that once walked the land of the long white cloud (being New Zealand) called the Moa, which stood about 14ft on average (that's a whole lotta drumstick right thur!!), but it is now extinct on account of those blardi maoris having too many hangis....they probably couldn't ride it, so the next best thiing was to eat it! Sadly...it is no moa.

And therein is probably a conundrum for some.

They wouldn't know what genuine respect was if it body slammed them.

I guess respect differs from person to person.

For me to respect somebody...i have to at least like them.

Ig Nobel awards: Irrelevant scientific research honoured
Scientists who unlocked the inner secrets of dog fleas, crisps and tangled string swept the tongue-in-cheek annual Ig Nobel Prizes.

The awards, a light-hearted alternative to Scandinavia's Nobel Prizes for otherwise serious researchers, were presented at Harvard University in Massachussetts.

More than 1,000 people, including seven of the 10 laureates, attended a ceremony that in irreverent spirit also featured sword-swallowing, paper airplanes, and an eight-year-old girl tasked with stopping boring speeches.

Three French scientists from the Ecole National Veterinaire de Toulouse took the biology prize for establishing that fleas living on dogs jump further than those resident on cats - 20 centimeters further, on average.

Potentially more controversial was the work of an Italian-British duo who won the nutrition prize for their study "Auditory Cues in Modulating the Perceived Crispness and Staleness of Potato Chips."

The ground-breaking study first published in the Journal of Sensory Studies involved "electronically modifying the sound of a potato chip to make the person chewing the chip believe it to be crisper and fresher than it really is," Ig Nobel organizers said.

reads kinda like a Monty Python skit don't it...

hahaha...love Monty Python, but you win. Your bit of information is more useless than mine! bigsmile

Hello all, I am new to Blackfalds and very new to online mingling.
I am an old fashioned values kind of guy a real Cowboy, yes there are a few of us left in the world. Looking to meet an honest woman ( are there any left) Friends first perhaps but I am looking for a relationship with the right person. I don't cheat and I don't lie thats all I ask for in return.

So you wouldn't mind if i threw that shoe of yours at your head because you left it lying around where i could trip over it?

I respectively disagree...

I have a healthy respect for the knowledge that some people have....doesn't mean i respect them, or even like them.

Afterthought...but that is only one aspect of respect, and i respect them enough not to p!ss in their pocket.

Questioning my outfit is a no no!

"Is that what you're wearing?"

"Is it on my body?"

I must admit, I have been one to complain about fashion. But, it has to be pretty bad. Baggie jeans, baggie T-shirt and dirty sneakers. C'mon, I'm taking you out. How about putting in a little effort to look good?

Ha!...are you paying?

I am in no way entitled to anything.. everything I am or will be.. will be(or has been) earned by toil, dedication, compassion and determination

I've seen people who think that the world owes them something...even though they do feck all but complain about how "hard done by" they are.

So i quite understand what it is you said there. Unless you put in the hard yards...you're entitled to nothing.

Seems a fair call to me.

I'm in Melbourne, so if you want to hop across to what we fondly refer to as "the ditch" to New Zealand....Melbourne or Sydney is the best place to do that from. Tis about a 3 and a half hour flight across to Enzed from either city, and you can get a return flight for around AU$400 but if you fly out of Melbourne, i'd come with you...because i look for any excuse to skip across the ditch to catch up with family ;-)

sounds like the FIRST stop should be Melbourne then  and of COURSE I'd head to NZ with you.. geeze.. it'd be like having ma own personal travel guide... I'd be nuts NOT to slaphead after all.. it's THE ultimate trip.. what I call, going native!

Brisbane is the major city in Queensland, but whenever i head up there...it's always either the Sunshine Coast or the Gold Coast that draws my attention. Either coasts are fun, but the Sunshine Coast is less commercialized besides being home to Steve Irwins Australia Zoo.

ok then.. if time and finances permit.. sunshine coast it is

Adelaide is nice if you like looking at cathedral and church like structures...and visiting wineries!! ;-)

I like church architecture.. but that would be a 'day' trip for me.. I can only take so much of that kinda stuff on any trip.. but I have to do at LEAST one! I wouldn't drag you along if that wasn't your thing though.. like me with your soccer

Perth is the West Coast answer to Queenslands beaches, and it houses some truly spectacular pieces of ocean paradise....so you best bring along your thongs.

wait.. thongs?surprised my version or yours scared

There is an overnight cruise to Tasmania out of Melbourne...which was a shitload of fun the last time i took this trip. The ship has a couple of bars including a nightclub, a casino and a couple of choice restaurants. It docks in Devonport early morning around 8ish, where you can spend the day at your leisure cruising some of the sights on offer in Tasmania. The ship leaves around 5pm to head back to Melbourne.

would you wanna come to Tasmania too?? bigsmile

currently your dollar is about at par with Canada.. NICE.. so it gives a better idea on prices.. AND once I get all the particulars in order (where, what time of year etc) there are packages anyone could purchase now for 2014 or later travel so.. it's good to plan ahead

as things get a little more settled in my world (in other words when I have a better idea as to when I COULD come) we can chat on the phone (I have an unlimited international monthly calling plan for work bigsmile )

OR for when you come to Canada.. OR for the UK jaunt.. we can chat WhenEVER  this is SOO exciting

Fer sure i'd go! I became quite fond of Tassie when i lived there for a few months wayyyyy back in the days when i didn't know how to keep still :-)

And yes!...we have to hook up by phone

But no laughing at my accent! spock

Ooo...aahhh...speaking of getting a grip.

Found this little snippet that y'all might be interested in....

Wrinkly fingers from sitting in the bath could have a useful purpose, according to research.

Wrinkles that form on skin after being in water improves grip on wet objects, scientists from Newcastle University claim to have shown.

The study compared the results of people taking objects out of water with and without the prune-like skin formation.

Author Dr Tom Smulders, publishing the paper in Biology Letters, said on Tuesday: "We have shown that wrinkled fingers give a better grip in wet conditions. It could be working like treads on your car tyres which allow more of the tyre to be in contact with the road and gives you a better grip.

"Going back in time, this wrinkling of our fingers in wet conditions could have helped with gathering food from wet vegetation or streams. And as we see the effect in our toes too, this may have been an advantage as it may have meant our ancestors were able to get a better footing in the rain."

In the study people picked up marbles of different sizes with normal hands or with wrinkled fingers after having soaked their hands in warm water for 30 minutes. They were faster if their fingers were wrinkled but it made no difference when moving dry objects.

"This raises the question of why we don't have permanently wrinkled fingers and we'd like to examine this further", said Dr Smulders.

"Our initial thoughts are that this could diminish the sensitivity in our fingertips or could increase the risk of damage through catching on objects."

So there ya go!!...but i have to wonder if they tested that theory with soap! bigsmile
