that's just horrible.. wow.. but yeah.. Mother Nature has her own way of takin care of business..

out in my area, we haven't had anything as devastating.. the most was last spring.. waters rose high enough to do lots of damages to homes etc.. they actually declared us a state of emergency and we had the military in to help.. I don't think many if any lives were lost.. but like I said.. there was LOTS of residential damage.. I was luckier than most with no damage at all.. but then again.. my home is placed slightly higher than many surrounding ones.. oh and, we have the occasional earthquake tremor.. but nothing scary like you guys..

Earthquake tremors are scary enough. I grew up in a place in New Zealand that is home to a geothermal wonderland of hissing geysers and bubbling mud pools, and is directly linked to an active volcanoe off the east coast of Enzed, so it became common place to experience tremors whilst growing up. Just a bit of trivia for you...one of the 7 natural wonders of the world was in the area i grew up in. Ever heard of the pink & white terraces?? It was apparently quite the attraction to early settlers before the nearby active volcanoe which is Mt Tarawera blew its top and buried them...along with a nearby village.

Ummmm...i guess that only makes 6 natural wonders left now. But...geologists have uncovered an original part of the pink & white terraces...so they're making a comeback!! bigsmile

surprised WOW... aMAZING!
pics are TOTALLY fine by the way K.. and simply gorgeous.. I could see myself sittin on one of the rocks, smokina doobie 'n soakin it allllll in.. VERY NICE! love the art and the cruise idea.. I love cruisin bigsmile

holy CROC-A-DOO batgirl.. that suckers HUGE noway you don't wanna be teasin those suckers huh.. whoa...

I'd probably want to spend at least 2 days(1 or possibly 2 nights) in each major city though..

Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Darwin & Perth.. is there any major cities in the Queensland area I missed? plus of course Tasmania and New Zealand.. which area are you closest to??

I see what you mean though, that I'd need a couple of months ta see it all.. phew

I'm in Melbourne, so if you want to hop across to what we fondly refer to as "the ditch" to New Zealand....Melbourne or Sydney is the best place to do that from. Tis about a 3 and a half hour flight across to Enzed from either city, and you can get a return flight for around AU$400 but if you fly out of Melbourne, i'd come with you...because i look for any excuse to skip across the ditch to catch up with family ;-)

Brisbane is the major city in Queensland, but whenever i head up there...it's always either the Sunshine Coast or the Gold Coast that draws my attention. Either coasts are fun, but the Sunshine Coast is less commercialized besides being home to Steve Irwins Australia Zoo.

Adelaide is nice if you like looking at cathedral and church like structures...and visiting wineries!! ;-)

Perth is the West Coast answer to Queenslands beaches, and it houses some truly spectacular pieces of ocean paradise....so you best bring along your thongs.

There is an overnight cruise to Tasmania out of Melbourne...which was a shitload of fun the last time i took this trip. The ship has a couple of bars including a nightclub, a casino and a couple of choice restaurants. It docks in Devonport early morning around 8ish, where you can spend the day at your leisure cruising some of the sights on offer in Tasmania. The ship leaves around 5pm to head back to Melbourne.

Ima feelin ya on that back to the grind thang, but bills don't get paid and travel doesn't fund itself if one is not willing to put in the hard yards.

Have a good Tuesday :-)

Those bushfires are still out of control and as many as 80 homes have been destroyed so far. Reminds me of Black Saturday in Victoria back in 2009. The mercury got up in the 40's that day, and i remember it well. Some 2000 homes were destroyed and many lives lost as well as countless animals. Just to give you an idea of the fierceness of that bushfire, which was considered as the perfect firestorm that destroyed over 400,000 hectares of regional Victorian Landscape. The fires burned so fiercly that the energy it produced was equivalent to 1500 atomic bombs the size of the Hiroshima explosion. It could have powered the State of Victoria for a year...according to experts anyhoo.

But out of the ashes as the saying goes....a rare species of eucalypt was reborn in the aftermath of that fire. It was on the brink of extinction...and now it is flourishing.

Interesting to note how nature deals with stuff no?

One of the swim-able rockpools in the Territory

Waterfall and small lake around the same area

This is Aggro, who is 6.4 metres of crocodillian bags and shoes. He lives on the Adelaide River in the Territory. Obviously this shot was taken from being aboard a very BIG boat that takes you on a cruise up the Adelaide River to feed the jumping crocs. I quickly developed a very healthy respect for crocodiles after experiencing that!

One of the many pieces of aboriginal rock art at Jabiru, which is located within Kakadu National Park. Kakadu is part of Arnhem Land, which belongs to the Aboriginal people, as does most of the Northern Territory, including Darwin.

The Northern Territory is a definate 'must see', but is better to go during the dry season, which is our winter and your summer. The average temp during the dry season is around 33c.

I am Number Four. Great story that had the potential to be a great movie, but was butchered from the opening scene.

The Director on this one totally missed the mark.

'might date another race or color, it doesnt mean I dont love my strong black brothers,,,,,

I do not buy into the myth promoted by certain racists - that a man is your brother if he has the same racial features that you have.

As I have said before, there is only one race that is native to planet Earth . . . the human race. Looking at humans through a prism of "race" is what keeps racism alive.

It's not a myth where i'm from. As a form of acknowledgement to the culture, we tend to call each other bro, sis, or cuz...it's just the way it is and in no way leaning toward segregation of black, white, brown, yellow, blue, pink or whatever the hell colour you happened to turn out. Although the only blue people i know of, are the ones that constantly tend to hold their breath in the hope of fook knows what.

So, i believe it has nothing to do with colour and everything to do with cultural differences...you either like it or you don't.

Canada has always been interesting to me. Untouched wilderness plus cosmopolitan living...what a contrast that must be! And i would love to check out a sugar shack and try one of those frozen maple syrup on a stick things :-)

Shux..i'm just about to call it a night here. The mercury has dropped to a more breathable temp now, so there will be no thoughts of sleeping in the pool tonight. Tasmania had it pretty rough yesterday with bushfires raging out of control. One of the downsides to extreme hot weather over here.

I dunno though...the really bad bushfires only seem to happen in areas where the aboriginal people don't burn off. Wonder why that is.

I wanna and am gunna do Europe in 2015. The Rugby World Cup is being held in England that year, so it's a good enough excuse for me to get my behind over there and check Europe out. Seriously...i'm fascinated with all that history they got going on over there.

And hey...i'll be happy to show you around down under if and when you decide to make the trip across. I think you might like the diversity of Melbourne...tis one big melting pot of different cultures. Truly...tis like venturing into mini countries as you pass through various suburbs.

But if a true blue outback experience is what tickles your fancy...then you can't go past the Northern Territory and its vastness. I particularly like the laid back tropical city of Darwin and its colourful people (hippies...although they call them 'alternative lifestylers' these days...*ahem*) which looks out over the East Timor Sea and the contrast of the outback as its back yard, where you can experience such wonderlands as Kakadu and its aboriginal rock art which has been dated back thousands of years...believe me when i say that it is truly a privilege Z, if not an experience, as you walk through that land where they walked thousands of years before. Then there is Litchfield National Park which has some of the most beautiful rockpools and waterfalls in the middle of nowhere that will simply take your breath away. Most of the rockpools are safe to swim in, although there are freshwater crocs swimming in these pools, but they're so timid that you never see them. The salt water crocs or 'salties' as they're referred to, are the buggars you just don't want to mess with. But apart from all that...i consider the Territory as my winter escape. I'll post a few pics...when i can find what i've done with them :-)

WOW surprised it ALL sounds amazing K.. drool how long do you think it would take to see it ALL?? not talkin racing thru things either.. I'm gettin old ya know laugh laugh

2015 Europe? where? as mentioned above I've been to some.. however I'd be up for the UK.. but yer on yer own for the sport thang noway

It would take at least a couple of months to see it ALL at a leisurely pace...there are 5 States to cover...which is Victoria (note, that the whole of New Zealand can fit into the state of Victoria alone), South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland and New South Wales plus the Northern Territory which also covers Central Australia and then there's the island of Tasmania, which is a 45 minute flight out of Melbourne and quite similar to New Zealand. So it really depends on how much time you want to spend checking it all out.

I can't miss out on watching my beloved All Blacks defend their world cup title, but i wouldn't make you suffer through the atmosphere of a stadium full of various cultures screaming for their team to win. I will cheer for Canada on your behalf though...as long as they're not playing the All Blacks ;-)

My grandmother was Irish, so Ireland is definately on the hit list whilst there. England, Wales, Scotland & Ireland are apparently a stones throw away from each other, so i kind of like the idea of driving around for a week or so checking out various historic castles and points of interest such as Stonehenge and Loch Ness whilst enjoying the local fare and bevies on offer at Pubs & Inns, before skipping across to France, Italy and wherever else i can fit 6 weeks into.

Yep...that can't be fun making a chore out of a simple thing like going to the beach to cool off.

Shux...it's midnight with the temp still in the 30's...so sleeping in the pool is sounding pretty good to me right now.

Oh shush John...i heard you think that you hope i drown. laugh
