Like all rational people, I despise the court of public opinion...Like many, I am following the latest Cosby scandal...After listening to media carry on for days and reading a chit load of articles, THIS article, written by black journalist Ricardo Hazell, is a winner!...He puts it into perspective using logic and facts...It's a long article, but if you're a critical thinker who values reason, you will love this man's take...

Some major points include...

A timeline of events:

On January 28, 2000 actress Lachelle Covington alleged in a police report filed on February 1st that Cosby groped her in his apartment. No charges were filed. January 2004, former Arizona University women's basketball player and Temple University assistant basketball coach Andrea Constand brought accusations against Cosby but authorities refused to file charges based on "insufficient credible and inadmissible evidence." The alleged victim then filed a civil claim in March 2005 and thirteen other women came forward with similar allegations and offered to testify as witnesses on her behalf when the case went to court. But they never had their chance as Cosby and Constand would eventually settle out of court in November 2006. One cannot help but wonder what type of hell would have ensued for Cosby had these women been allowed to tell their stories before a judge. It wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that he paid this woman off to prevent that. California attorney Tamara Lucier Green then came forward with allegations that Cosby drugged and raped her in back in 1969. Green came forward in 2005 following the realization that prosecutors were unlikely to pursue charges against the comedian. As expected, Cosby's lawyers denied the accusation and said he doesn't even know this woman. Later that same year, Beth Ferrier alleged that Cosby drugged her coffee and took advantage of her in 1984 during a 2005 interview in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Since that time four other women have come forward claiming that he did similar things to them over the years. The modus operandi is always the same; drugs are slipped into drinks and the victims then wake up, their clothing disheveled, feeling violated. Artist Barbara Bowman, Therese Serginese of Boca Raton, Florida, former model Janice Dickerson (who initially made these claims in an interview back in 2002) and writer Joan Tarshis all made statements against Cosby. And now Carla Ferrigno, wife of one-time actor and body builder Lou Ferrigno, claims Cosby tried to force himself on her at a party back in the day.

And these concluding remarks:

As a man in America, I know that we all make mistakes. As a Black man in America I know that often times there are unseen forces operating behind the scenes to exploit certain situations. Black men are targets, yes. But not this Black man. Not the man who made NBC the place to be on Thursday nights in the 80s and 90s.

But critical thinking and reasoning appear to be the last thing on the minds of Cosby apologists.

The hurried manner in which some wish to dismiss these women as money-grubbing opportunists with their eyes on Bill Cosby's wealth is a slap in the face to women everywhere. There may be a few in this lot who are lying, but to say they're all lying on Bill is misogyny personified. And what about his standup act back in 1969 in which he spoke of slipping women mickeys? While not incriminating in and of itself, it does create pause for cause. At least in my mind.

For those who are stating "Why is all of this coming out now?", you have not been paying attention at all. These allegations have been a part of the public record in some way, shape or form for almost 20 years. Instead of asking why the allegations are being made now perhaps you should be asking yourself why you so readily forgot them in the first place. The conspiracy theories being brandished by Cosby apologists run the gamut from comically irrelevant to mindlessly inconsequential to just plain ol' stupid.

Reminds me of when Black people were so quick to defend O.J. Simpson during his infamous trial only to fall silent regarding his weird behavior, such as releasing a book titled "If I Did It" regarding the death of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson. Creeeeeepy!

Good article Leigh. One does not have to look far around here to see who the apologists are.

Hey, thanks Joe! ...If he did do the crimes, I hope the victims receive what "they" feel "they" need and are entitled to in order to achieve some sort of closure....

I always hope for people to get 'what they need',,

certainly doesn't pay to be promiscuous,, its a dangerous life,,

doesn't excuse assaults and its too bad its such a difficult thing to prove when only TWO people are involved,,,,,especially if both are 'partying', drinking,,etc,,,,

accusation is not guilt

Does that claim apply to everyone?

Regardless what happen no one can ignore that many women accusing him of drugging them then having sex or groping them..

Why they waited so long... most likely of his status in life and who would believe them... Then when someone finally decided to come forward others finally either thought it was time to admit it and come forward for this was their chance to.. Since when only one does it gets shut down and pushed aside.

Who knows yes back then there was a lot of partying ect going on... But maybe some were actually due to his status and they were willing at the time and they thought they would be more then a fling... we will never know all the truth. But hard to believe that many would come forward and not some truth in it all.

It is sad for I grew up watching Bill Cosby..

Regardless what really happen it will never make me forget all the good he has done in his lifetime.......

Last I heard he was denying it all ...but that was last wk... I really thought we where innocent until proven guilty by law not speculation... they have ruined his reputation ... and made him loose & cancelled his commitments and sponsors have dropped him ... now if he is guilty that would be one thing but everyone jumping on the band wagon before he is proven guilty ...
is just out for themselves & $ ...

Does that claim apply to everyone?

guilty people are accused, and guilty whether accused or not

but accusation ALONE(without evidence or witness) doesn't equal guilt,,,

. . . and people will be accused of being guilty even when the evidence doesn't really point to guilt, even when alleged witnesses say one thing to reporters but say another thing while under oath.

An innocent person can be accused of guilt, and the accusers will keep accusing.

innocent people are assumed guilty and killed or incarcerated

guilty people are assumed innocent and applauded

,,yes, there are many combinations,, when it comes to alleged guilt or innocence

hard to debate whether a life is taken though, when there is a dead bullet ridden body and only one person with a gun

only debate is WHAT HAPPENED leading up to it,,,

when it comes to rape though, unless a test is done after, much harder to prove there was sexual intercourse, let alone rape,,,

It seems Cosby is facing a $350MILLION divorce settlement as well as HUNDREDS if not thousands asking for refunds on ticket purchases to his shows.

His guilt or innocence seems to already be decided in the court of public opinion..... and at home

all of these cases where out of the statute of limitations...
now trying to over turn some ... so he can be charge for the one that happen at the playboy mansion... where he supposedly raped a women there ... personalty I really believe they should have came forward before now... and no I don't believe they should over turn anything ... not at this time ... the law is the law ... but sometimes they don't follow the law anyway ... so who knows how this will end up ...

If he did what he's been accused of, he deserves whatever punishment is handed down to him!

yes its true. The LA police department is opening up the case. This thing is not going to go away.. and it should not go away until the total truth is out.

We are talking about a possible serial rapist. The public has the right to know if they have one (regardless of the offenders age) living amongst them. That is why we have the sex offender laws in place. That is why they have to register when they move. That is why you can go on the web and plug in your zip code and find out who in your area is a sex offender. To allow you to protect your family from that person.

For some reason, his profession as a comic somehow changes some peoples perspective. It does not matter (and should never matter) who you are.. what color you are.. or what you do for a living. If a person committed these terrible acts upon women, they need to be held publically accountable for this and the victims need closure.

Short of murder... rape is the most serious of crimes.. a disgusting act. A serial rapist is a animal, who needs to be flushed out into the public.

If it was Bill Crosby the plumber.. there would not even be a thread on it. He would have been locked up long ago.

You should not get a free ride because you beat the clock.. not with rape... and certainly not because you make people laugh for a living

obviously when someone has a 'celeb' status , everything they do gets more press than your average plumber

from where they travel to what they wore

but even if he wasn't a comedian, I would question it mainly because most of these women that I have listened to admit to drinking with him and to being party types and to CONTINUING to go see him,,,,

sounds like what I call rape AFTER the fact

that's when someone discovers after the fact that they didn't get what they wanted out of it or that they can get even more,,,

Well since were making up our own phases and definitions. I'll go with the "Pied Piper". That's when a person of social status and power, used that status to lure woman with the intent of taking advantage of them.
