I believe Mingle2 has a messenger service that you can use. It's the same as using aim or yahoo unless you want to use a webcam or send pictures ...ahem...

I don't. I let people know that I chat here first until I get to know someone. It amazes me that there are some people out there that keep trying and can't seem to grasp the concept of why I don't give out info

It depends, my messenger accounts don't have any personal info on them- yeah I'm paranoid about having my info online. If I think I click with someone, I don't mind talking to them through messenger, but most of the time, I prefer email, especially if I'm doing something else at the time; IM can be restricting.

I dated a guy for about three months, 90% of our none face to face communication was IMing on yahoo. I hated it! I didn't have my laptop then so was tied to the computer in my bedroom for hours sometimes. I could tell he wasnt' reading half of what I wrote (which was actually probably good info to have) I can talk on the phone and do other things, knit, cook, light cleaning etc but can't do anything else while IMing...not a big fan of it! E-mail offers more freedom, much less restrictive.
As for giving out that info, no, nope, notta till I really feel I know someone and even then I might give out my alternate info... |

If someone is interesting I do. I can cook and do whatever when I am chatting. It's just like email but it arrives a little quicker with more functionality.
